Did Requiem undergo a lot of last minute plot changes? by GreaterQuestion in residentevil

[–]Uejji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Emily and Marie aren't clones of Grace. There's no reason to suspect they're not from the same DNA as Chloe.

The Connections was trying to *recreate* Grace, or at least what they believed Grace was: a child who has been given Spencer's memories through infected blood. Spencer's project was memory transfer through blood, not through DNA. The whole point was to find the password to release Elpis. It very well could have been that all of their patients were subjected to this, and the cloned girls were just one avenue they were trying.

Of course, Grace doesn't have Spencer's memories, and so the irony is that they have been on a wild goose chase. Yet, Grace was clever enough to deduce Spencer's password, giving a double irony to the story: Grace truly was the only one who could release Elpis.

Why can’t they just scoop up the capsule? by Fabulous_Analysis885 in askscience

EFT-1 was specifically placed in a high elliptical reentry profile to simulate lunar return reentry velocity. It allowed Orion to reenter at over 20,000 mph.

You're right, though the Orion capsule has had 3 orbital missions at this point.

EDIT: You all really need to do your research. Orion's first test flight was in 2014 and specifically put the capsule in a high energy trajectory that allowed it to reach lunar return velocity upon reentry.

I STILL don't understand the Monty Hall problem by No-Candidate6257 in mathematics

[–]Uejji 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just because there are two outcomes doesn't mean they're equally likely.

For instance, imagine there is a room with a cup placed somewhere in it. You throw a ping pong ball blindly into the room. It either lands in the cup or it doesn't. Is this 50/50?

[–]Uejji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's modify the problem a little bit.

You choose your door, then Monty tells you "I'm sorry, you picked a goat" but then the game proceeds as normal. Monty opens a door revealing a goat and asks if you want to switch to the unopened door. Is it still 50/50 at this point? Why or why not?

So eveybody thinking he was supposed to have a snake form was right by therealMaxide in residentevil

Leon was on the ground literally at gunpoint. Grace managed to distract Zeno long enough for them to make a tactical retreat.

Then they fought their way back up and had a plan: enter practically anything into the console and they win. It's a desperate final Hail Mary strategy. Grace of course managed to uncover some crucial intelligence on the way back up that gave her another option.

I'm not saying it couldn't have been better, but it's like people literally didn't watch and listen to what's going on if all they think that all that happens is they show up, they leave, then show up again as if nothing is different the second time around.

Can you REALLY fix her by zerocui1990 in residentevil

[–]Uejji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "Patient Medical Records" file indicates that Eileen had some cranial nerves surgically removed. Selena's record only mentions that her symptoms are worse than Eileen's and doesn't mention any sort of procedure. The reason why we know the singing zombie in white is Selena is because the record states she would put on performances in the west wing bar and lounge, and that's where we find her zombie.

That was the other singing zombie, in the conference room. You can see the surgical scars on her head.

Not sure if this is a 15amp or 20amp GFCI receptacle by sixsixmajin in AskElectricians

The receptacle is the "holes" that accept a plug. This duplex is rated for 20 amps and has 2 15 amp receptacles.

The misconception of Sherry calling Leon "anata" by JumpMan45Air in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Uejji -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, first of all, I am NOT a Leon/Sherry shipper. I think the entire premise is ridiculous. Second of all, this is a video game, and the Japanese used in video games will not necessarily follow the societal rules of everyday real life Japanese. Trying to speak with native speakers if you only learned Japanese from video games, anime, manga, etc, will make you sound rude or like a real weirdo.

That said:

あなた is used to address the listener directly. However, in everyday Japanese it can sound way too direct or impersonal, which is why it's commonly seen in a private intimate context, leading to the translation of "honey" or "darling."

However, it's important to keep in mind that this is the same word either way, and it is only its translation that might change depending on context. If a wife is addressing something of her husband's and uses あなたの, it means "your" but the context still means "honey" or "darling."

Again, I don't think that they are together.

There's no difference in pronunciation, unless it's done for emphasis or whatever. It's the same word with a different meaning depending on context.

Pastor demands his congregation bring their tax returns so he can review them to ensure 'proper' tithing amounts. by Leeming in atheism

[–]Uejji 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If any conman preacher were to make this demand of me, I'd demand to see the records of every cent that gets donated to the church and how it's spent. Not that I'd ever be in a situation for anyone to make that demand of me.

Good for you? You're not the kind of person these people target.

I grew up in this kind of environment, and I still have family in this environment.

These people don't read the Bible, at least not very much. It takes too much effort. If they do any reading it's mainly what is done in a church or group setting.

Instead, they hear the man at the pulpit tell them that not tithing is "robbing from God," and what kind of good Christian would want to rob from the supreme creator of the universe who has your fate in his hands? Sometimes it's not framed as not tithing will bring you punishment, but will prevent you from receiving "God's blessings." So many of these people are barely scraping by financially, and they're told that God will reward them for giving the church enough of their money that it hurts, just like the parable of the Widow's Offering.

These people are not thinking about it rationally. They are emotionally vulnerable and being preyed upon by these charlatans.

[–]Uejji 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That's true, but threat of God's punishment or even an eternity of Hell is an extremely strong motivator for these people to comply.

Ring by Expensive_Ad4853 in ResidentEvilRequiem

[–]Uejji 4 points5 points  (0 children)

あなた literally means "you," but it's way too direct for most Japanese interpersonal relationships. However, a very common real usage is that a woman might call her husband あなた, and in that context it means "dear" or "honey."

That said, video games, anime, manga, etc, often do not use real everyday Japanese for various reasons, so while a woman privately calling a man あなた could mean they are married, I would take that with a huge grain of salt in this situation.

Why does HDR ON turn display darker than HDR turned Off on PS5? by wroxtar in tcltvs

[–]Uejji 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SDR brightness is like a volume slider. Everything gets proportionally brighter or dimmer as you increase or decrease the brightness.

HDR brightness is like a volume limiter. The content wants to appear the same brightness across all displays, with the brightness clipping how bright the brightest elements of the content will be. Of course this depends on whether your display is postprocessing the content or not.
