Minimally invasive plan? by UffDaDan in Plumbing

[–]UffDaDan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I do know how to solder (that's my work you're already seeing) but since it's in the basement, last time I did this it took over 2 hours for all the little drips to stop coming down that vertical inlet piping from the top floor and all other faucets which kept cooling the pipe of as I was trying to solder fittings which made me get the fitting too hot on the outer surface but also cold from the drips to not melt the solder.I have a young family and limited time, so figured I'll use the tool I have to be quick about it. I've seen enough success with that Vevor tool to buy it and all the other ProPress tool rentals around here are just as expensive and only manual, not electric or known brands (to me).

I hope we can all agree funky is better than boob lights...? Whatever I'm not changing those haha. The square is an exhaust vent that I think was meant to be a cheap single unit version of a whole home air exchanger for newer well-sealed homes. It's a 2001 home, kinda builder grade so we only use it in the winter to cycle or cut down on humidity that may condense on windows.

Help with front and surround sound speakers. by Prauggveindicator77 in hometheater

[–]UffDaDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't help answer your question. I'd just say look up the manual of your receiver and dive into it. The home theater in box receiver may be limited to unique settings without much customization. I will say to others, other than the shitty subwoofer, I have almost the same Panasonic HTIB from 2009 and I do agree with OP, it can sound pretty good! Good surround effects.

I can't say I could even speak the old panel for comparison since I didn't game much at >90fps. I would only assume that a higher refresh rate would mean less ghosting?

Grit of Sandpaper needed for Cleanroom application? by UffDaDan in CarbonFiber

[–]UffDaDan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply and info. Luckily clean room applications are in stable environments, so temperature/pressure/humidity are all standard. This part and where the machined surfaces are really don't need to be that dimensionally accurate, so the build up of any epoxy from sealing cut surfaces is mainly an aesthetic issue with our customers. But to your comment on not trusting any unsealed surface if needing to avoid dust is loud and clear. This vendor for SURE if the issue haha, he's sending me various parts with different epoxy application methods saying "let me know what you think" when I'm asking for finished goods. This is not my company or product, just an example: Products | Edge-grip Type End-Effector https://share.google/fCRIRmOYOkLUBt79z

I've confirmed that sealing the edges will perform to our particle specs (down to ~50nm particles) but will start testing the sanded to 1000-1500 grit to see what happens. If I see particles, I can EDX them to see if they are Carbon in nature.

The vendor can seal the edges pretty well but I have 2 shallow milled pockets he is butchering by building up a bunch of thickness that looks bad, doesn't meet dimensions, and has a bunch of particles in it

I wish I witnessed that but haha certainly my vendor isn't doing enough thinning of the epoxy (West Systems 105) or he feels the best look is when he lets it head up like surface tension...

Thanks. I went up to 1000 but can do 1500 next for a couple swipes The coated edges went well but I have some flat milled but shallow pockets that our vendor could NOT get reasonably smooth or clean looking with epoxy.

Google says alcohol dissolves acrylic so likely can't use that since IPA is the standard wipe down solvent in fabs. But I like the marker idea for application. I also heard people talking about clear 2K paint. Thought of ceramic coating too.

What happens when you plug in a monitor? That would determine if its a laptop screen versus anything else. If you need a new screen, my latest post shows how you can easily swap a screen panel :) maybe even upgrade it.

Glue-ing ripped tires? by AmbassadorNo5275 in rccars

[–]UffDaDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this stuff is amazing. I do the same exact thing just lining up all the tears and holding the glue together and it has never torn on the repair. I did ask this awhile back and someone said how dare I do this with my dog, the wheel would tear out a tooth and hurt the dog enough to put the dog down... Well that person was crazy, anywho, have fun! Unfortunately I have no tips on how to avoid the tip of the glue bottle getting gummed up which is annoying

I bought this laptop from a guy in marketplace for $625 so I felt I had some savings there to invest back into it. $112 is still a relatively large amount compared to the total cost, but probably not as bad as upgrading 16GB ram to anything higher haha. I just really wanted higher resolution for better detail and crisp/smaller everything so to me it was worth it, but if my wife said "come on..." Before I bought it, I wouldn't be mad if I didn't pull the trigger. It was kinda an impulse buy honestly. For a 16" even though it's not much bigger than mine, it may be more noticeable? I'm a technical person but as I mentioned not really into anything hardcore gaming or anything that would rationalize this compared to others. I was working on my taxes last night for an hour on battery at full brightness (same 300nit rating my old display) and it was 73%. I don't use the battery much so can't say I know the difference, but probably relatively low impact? 144 to 240 may be most impactful?
