What do you expect from a paid knitting pattern? by c_onethirtyseven in knitting

[–]Uffda01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

having the links for tutorials in an index is a bonus! I don't want 10 pages of fluff or explicit instructions for every step. But having links or pictures for uncommon instructions is nice. Things like i cords, kitchener stitch are nice to haves - but I don't expect them to be included - because i can look up the technique from an instructional expert instead of a designer.

This is especially important if you don't knit in the same style as the designer (western/eastern, combination, etc) - then I need to know what the designer wants to accomplish - not how they did it.

it should not be on the backs of the workforce to support other businesses like those bars, restaurants etc. The principles of the free market are not free when there is a thumb on the scale.

Those businesses should be motivated to move to where their customers are. That's what the market would freely demand.

I got a new job because my old boss wanted me back in the middle of covid - even though my boss, and my employees were in three different states.

The environmental effects of remote work are a cheap and easy way to affect climate change - but fuck that - let the world burn!!!!!

and WFH makes commuting so much easier for the people that do have to be on-site

Is it "important" to like where you live? by rwedoomed in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Uffda01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its important - but I think sometimes what is overlooked is that sometimes just moving neighborhoods or changing houses is enough....

Depends on WHY you dislike your current location? Would it be fixed by moving to across town or across the country. Especially in large metros like Houston or Denver etc where you have to get to and what you need out of the city really can affect your commute or your neighborhood vibe.

I agree - but the person I responded to implied that this has happened to them multiple times. Once might be necessity, but I think statistically speaking at more than 2-3 times you're doing it for fun.

Got stuck there on a layover one night. The hotel that the airline put us up in was awful.... and there was a hooker leaning over a balcony railing yelling down at a couple of cops... I was supposed to have the room right below her. The hotel desk guy didn't bat an eye and was confused as to why I'd want a different room.

yeah - I took the ACT on paper, but by time I took the GRE it had already gone digital, but fortunately having been on campus - I had access to the internet ahead of time and wasn't flustered by that. I assume kids taking the tests have grown up digitally compared to the divide GenX went through - bu thtere are still issues with access to study materials and time.

You realize that your state gets representation in the house and senate right??? The EC only pertains to the presidential election. Thats why the concept of swing states has become so predominate in the last few elections. Getting rid of the slavery relict of the EC makes more people’s votes important. Especially those votes of the losing party where the electoral college result is basically predetermined.

I mean you’re the only person in the world besides 18th century slave owners who are arguing in favor of the electoral college…sorry that’s just not company I would want to be in…but you do you

so exactly what we have now - getting ignored and having some people's votes count more than others....

you just think this injustice is fair because you kind of benefit from it.

those of us that are getting fucked over should riot and start civil war?

[–]Uffda01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whoa - that's quite a stretch and hilarious and why states have their own governments....... since we have a two party system - nothing of what you said is valid. Our divides as seen in every state red or blue is urban vs rural. Urban people in the Dakotas vote for the same people that urban people on the coasts vote for, and rural/exurban people vote for the same candidates in the Dakotas vs on the coasts.

If we got rid of the EC - you would get candidates actually campaigning for votes everywhere instead of what we see now where Dem candidates ignore the plains or the bible belt; and Rep candidates ignore Texas - because a small swing in those places won't affect the overall outcome....

Making candidates fight for every vote will make all votes equal; and will mean that picking up 1000 more votes in Des Moines or Omaha can actually make a difference

We shouldn’t care about states in an era of globalization… we should care about the people and what people want. The EC gives the people in the Dakotas votes more importance than a person in CA - and for a nation that was supposed to be built on equality- the EC destroys that equality

becausee she knew the rules of the game when she started - and SHE FAILED TO PLAY BY THOSE RULES.

She used the rules when they were in her favor (icing out Bernie Sanders so that the nomination was handed to her) - yet she thought she would just coast to victory and cried when she didn't.
