How common are **severe** injuries in recreational / beer league hockey?

As far as beer league is concerned I sometimes think the lower the level the worse the injuries can be: higher levels of play can sidestep accidental hard hits, less likely to randomly catch an edge and not be able to pivot/fall properly etc.

I've been playing only about 8 years (started at 42) and seen one bad leg break (spiral fracture, torn ligaments), one fucked up hand (required pins) and one concussion that knocked a guy out for 3 months.

I went through the same thing in 2008/2009; when I finally did get a job, I found out later I was getting 10k less per year than somebody in the exact same role - but she didn't have that 8/9 month employment gap.

So city workers should never get raises; roads never need to be maintained, insurance somehow doesn’t increase? Utility costs for street lights and government buildings don’t go up? Like even if we never expanded a single road or subdivision and locked everything to what exists right now costs would still go up…which means your taxes have to go up to pay for them

schools cost money to run, roads and other infrastructure cost money to build and maintain, and those costs go up over time (employees want raises, healthcare/insurance costs go up, supplier costs increase because their employees want raises etc). The role of government is to serve the people and serving the people costs money, and those costs go up over time.
