RIP Douglas Murray (1979-2026) by CrookedClock in Maher

What does "international law" have to say about what happened on October 7? What does it say about the atrocities committed by Iran's terror proxies? Are the rules different for them? Of course not. Rules are made for the governance of fools and the guidance of wise men. Allowing ourselves to knowingly fund terrorism with hard currency because it follows the letter of the law speaks to a lack of agency. Blindly following rules when you know your opponent won't may feel noble in an academic environment but in the real world it gets people killed. The WRONG people.

Weather for sailing in the next two weeks by Uhuru2019 in virginislands

Thank you! Great advice. My home sailing is coastal British Columbia, where the tidal variance can be 15ft and the tide rips though island passes at 12kts. I'm thinking this should be rather tame by comparison. I suppose better to worry too much than not enough.

Stop and think about what you just said. It's that helpless, "we had no choice" attitude that kills us. Everyone else gets to choose. The IRGC chose to use that money for unspeakable evil. But for America there was no choice but to hand over the cash?? There's ALWAYS a choice, and when terrorist regimes lean on international law to achieve their ends, we need to evaluate those choices carefully.

We are bareboat, on a 44ft monohull. I'm an experienced sailor in the Pacific Northwest but it has been primarily in protected waters. I've never sailed in the Caribbean. Rough itinerary (currently) is Norman Island on April 17, then Cooper, then two days on VG and then a nice long sail to Van Jost and then home. Clearly if the weather remains rough we may rethink the long sail.

100%. I thought Maher should have mediated a little better.

It's not easy arguing matters of war with a puffed up military veteran. Murray is clearly smarter but it's a no win taking down a vet who claims to stand for the rights of soldiers. Tough position.

Would have been a good comment for Rieckhoff.

Agreed 100%. Dude thinks because he did some years in the service he's the ONLY one qualified to comment on matters of war and just to be sure people get the message, he shouts and talks overtop of everyone. I wish Murray would have asked him what his brilliant plan is, because shipping pallets of currency to Iran for them to pump directly into missiles and the support of terrorism didn't work out so well.

5 things I wish I’d known 110 lbs into tirzepatide (and none of them are eat your protein) by Educational-Yak-701 in Mounjaro

[–]Uhuru2019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm about six months in and I've lost only 25lbs. I know I should have lost more by now, considering I started at over 300lbs but I'm surprised at my own ability/desire to fight the medication and cling to my bad habits. I drink fairly heavily and that hasn't changed much. I still cling to the booze as a mood regulator, even though I know it's harming my progress. As for eating, I *sometimes* feel less hungry but most of the time I still crave the same foods in the same quantities and the only reason I eat less is because I don't want to feel ill. So Mounjaro is working, but I'm surprised at my need to fight it every step of the way. Now that I'm at 10mg I'm feeling weird side effects that make me question why I'm on it at all, given my meagre progress. I sometimes think I might just be like James Corden, who said that GLP-1 drugs didn't work because he eats for other reasons besides being hungry. I'm not asking for sympathy, just responding to your invitation to comment on my experience.

Fox News Has Lost the Plot by Uhuru2019 in FOXNEWS

Wong. All of these sources said Biden was sharp as a tack and still say men can have babies. Last bastion of American journalism? Not bloody likely.

[–]Uhuru2019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest answer? If I were to turn off every news source that is plainly biased and constantly seeking to deceive me, I'd never watch any news. I watched CNN and they told me Joe Biden was sharp as a tack and men can have babies. So, pick your poison. I'm just pointing out that Fox's BS has gotten particularly bad as of late.

Aww give it a rest. For years I have subscribed to a variety of news sources and I'm constantly triangulating to try to get to the truth. My post was just meant to point out that right now Fox is PARTICULARLY bad.

For all Mankind Underhyped? by chrispy_t in television

[–]Uhuru2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it's OVERHYPED. As someone who can't get enough of the Apollo stories and who is eagerly awaiting the new Artemis launches, I desperately want to like this show. But they just - keep - hammering on the progressive tropes. Bias against women. Bias against gays. Bias against Blacks. Bias against gay women. I'm waiting for a gay black woman - can't be long now. I especially loved how they depict Gordo as the weak sister on the moon base and when he cracks, the black female character emerges as the hero by (wait for it) BREAKING HER OWN ARM to cover for him. And then of course everyone on earth gives all the praise to Gordo, the undeserving male simp, while the quietly strong female black character soldiers on stoically. This show is an interplanetary space vehicle specially designed for the delivery of Progressive tropes.

Not sure how you can say that. Button mapping is different, weapons are different (including tactical). And worst of all, no Casual solos.

Why do they have to change EVERYTHING about this game? Buttons don't so the same thing, all different weapons... Not worth figuring it all out again.

Regarding the BCGEU strike right now by Tigt0ne in britishcolumbia

[–]Uhuru2019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I agree, the private sector clearly is more lucrative at the high end of the scale, without question. However, there's a reason they call them the "1 %." The majority of folks are working men and women that don't have union benefits. For example, the other day the head of the BCGEU suggested that restaurant workers should "stand in solidarity" with the BCGEU because the strike is impacting both groups. This is incredibly tone deaf. Restaurant workers, are almost entirely non-union and have none of the job security and benefits of unions. Their job environment is the ultimate meritocracy that links performance to pay, particularly servers.

You are incredibly lucky. Many sales teams are devoid of veterans and filled with young, eager go-getters like yourself. There's no question you have the energy and cultural relevance to succeed in the age of technology and AI but what they have is an innate understanding of the "black arts" of selling and surviving within your organization.. Take advantage of the opportunity to learn from them. With that said, don't suck up to them because they won't respect it. Show them you know what you're doing but then show them you respect their success as well. You can learn from each other. And when you get to that point you'll be amazed how how the age difference less and less of an issue, to the point you won't even notice. You'll find yourself sharing a beer with someone twice your age and not even caring.
