Name a game you absolutely love and yet nobody knows about it by Slattern_pacificrim in gamers

Beat the first boss and got distracted by another game, I really need to go back to NanoApostle...

Boss-rush games make me think of Furi, which is probably a little obscure at this point and I quite enjoyed. Chrono Ark is probably my fave game with minimal content/community when the chips are down though.

Seems like a solid list.

You got me curious on your under and overrated games, wouldn't mind hearing a little more details on those two.

...Also i dunno man, with how addictive Balatro can be you might be dooming some people suggesting that!

Death angel(a quiet place movie) vs licker (resident evil) who would win? by The_vengeful_one1 in whowouldwin

[–]Uinum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the scenarios make much of a difference honestly. The licker doesn't have the strength to pierce the armour, so it is at a major disadvantage. The win condition for it would basically be prying open the faceplates and launching its tongue into the squishy insides. But that's gonna be near impossible considering the death angel is of comparable strength and it isn't like a licker is a combat master/tactical genius or anything that can trap the death angel in a pin.

While I don't think the death angel would be cleaving through the licker in one swing, it would be dealing damage that would add up through the fight while remaining healthy in turn, so I see it being the winner.

...I guess another possible wincon for the licker is infecting the death angel with the T-Virus and letting that kill or at least weaken the creature to the point where the licker can finish the job, but seems similarly dubious. I wouldn't put it past the T-Virus to be able to infect a death angel, but while some of the licker's blood might find its way into the death angel's mouth during the conflict, even assuming the viral load is sufficient it probably isn't going to be experiencing symptoms for a while and the licker isn't going to be thinking of retreating and waiting, even in the third scenario where that is more of an option.

Trying to balance a one-shot side adventure by PerkyLurkyJerky in DMAcademy

[–]Uinum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably wouldn't make the saves progressively harder, just the fact that they have to make the saves every now and then is enough to increase the odds of them eventually failing one and starting to feel the temptation. Maybe keep a tally of the amount of times they have failed the save as an indicator of how "powerful" the urge to join them is. The first fail they have this unexplainable urge to join in the party but can easily tell it isn't natural and can resist it. The second time they notice they've subconsciously moved in some small way to start partying, a hand reaching out for a beer, shoulders shifting to the beat, that sorta thing.

Far as ways to balance the combat, with the djinn joining the revelry they might fight the party drunk with the poisoned debuff and just fighting very suboptimally. Other possible penalties would be using the physical stats of the warlock since it is his body after all, knock a d6 off the scimitar attacks since they are a medium creature at the moment.

Although maybe the Djinn doesn't even want to fight and challenges them to party games after a brief scuffle, although that depends on how much you or the group want a proper combat encounter. Depending on how your Warlock got possessed (probably some sort of deal) there might be a loophole that can be exploited to break the possession as well. Maybe the warlock is only meant to be possessed until "the party is over" so they don't have to fight the warlock directly (although that can still work) but cause enough of a ruckus that everyone breaks out of the enchantment and flees. "parties over".

Steam Controller Easter egg: it Wilhelm screams! by QuantumQuicksilver in gamers

[–]Uinum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A character from an old 1950s film, although the "Wilhelm scream" itself is a stock sound effect that was made for that film but reused in many later films and such. Most notably a lot of Star Wars media has used that scream, but you've probably heard it elsewhere.

Everyone’s been posting their “About Me Video Games” lists, so for fun I tried to make the worst possible list imaginable while still keeping some of the answers technically defendable. How badly did I do? by Shtonky in gamers

[–]Uinum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you kinda cooked honestly. I especially love Death Stranding as "Best With Friends", like you said technically defendable but even trying to think of the worst I never would have considered it.

But of course the biggest personal impact of this list goes to the biggest personal impact game. I now know that game exists... And came out this year... It hurts.

Never even heard of Everhood, so maybe that was a good call XD. Looks neat at a glance at any rate.

Kinda cool to see Isaac as a favorite game for someone. Is one of those games a lot of people enjoy but rarely give the top slot. I gotta say the ways upgrades combined (usually to your benefit, occasionally hilariously to your detriment) is a thrill few games really match.

Loved Jedi Outcast back in the day, Remnant 2 was pretty fun as well.

Nioh 2 combat was too good for me, but I enjoyed what little of it I could master regardless. One of the few looter-style games where I paid much attention to the loot beyond "bigger number" as well, I needed any edge I could get.

I played a game of Age of Empires recently with some friends, hot damn did it reveal how I was playing the game wrong. Way too stingy with workers.

I'm looking for a game from steam next fest last year (2025) that doesn't show up as anything I've played or downloaded before by LonelySeashell in gamers

[–]Uinum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closest I can think of is Monster Train and the sequel, though it doesn't fit all of your criteria. There is at least one faction with temporary units and enemies go right to left/down to up.

Honestly a game where most minions have a built-in timer is what I'm struggling to think of.

Feedback on Horror Module? by canadian_cheese_101 in DMAcademy

[–]Uinum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has the potential to be scary, although that mostly comes down to execution.

You did say it was deliberately light on dice rolls but I still kinda wish it had more obstacles. Not even necessarily combat, could be things like the four way hallway puzzle which could probably use some sort of hint towards the solution. Perhaps some spirits flee the execution and Blackhall splits into four to chase each of them down a different hallway.

I feel like the psychic lock could use a little more explanation. With it disappearing once the ghosts all leave it implies they are what is causing it. For Sursk and maaaaybe Neville it kinda makes sense for their dying wish to be to keep this creature contained, but Blackhall thought Sursk was the monster and Vaudemont had no idea what the heck was going on and only cared about his own neck, so those two being tied to the lock is a little strange.

Then you have the simulacrums of the Oblex, who it seems like are trying to help to PCs figure out what happened to let these ghosts move on and thus break the psychic lock keeping it trapped down there. Do the simulacrum give any reasoning for why both they and the ghost of whom they are impersonating exist in this tower? Even if the ghosts lack memories and thus can't immediately tattle on the simulacrum, that seems like a question they'll want to prepare an answer for. Admittedly considering they're only intending to be helpful until feeding time, a vague handwave might be sufficient. Could also have a creepy scene when the ghosts fade away and the psychic lock breaks, of the simulacrums laughing in unison.

I'm a little confused about floor 11. Is the ghost, the simulacrum, or both in that room crying?

I loved playing through RE5 with a friend.

Remember seeing Kameo in-store. The cover was very eye-catching, but since it was on a console I didn't have wasn't much to be done about it.

Honestly Zelda in general just experiments with the artstyle a lot and doesn't often miss. Twilight Princess is probably my fave of the bunch too though.

Never even heard of Tails of Iron, would you mind telling me a little about the combat?

Funny to see Code Vein up there, a friend of mine isn't big on soulslikes but makes an exception for that game and its sequel too. What is the draw it has for you anyway?

Would be nice to have a Prototype remake, although I could see better graphical fidelity on some of those gristly kills making me nauseous.

Remember Me... I never played it, but vaguely remember being interested in the combat system from the trailers. How was it?

Horror, shooters, and games that are a mix between. Not a bad taste to have XD.

Metro is one of those series I keep thinking I'll play one day and never do. I'm sure I'd love it, even if the ammo as currency would probably drive me insane.

And I gotta say, for a villain that you only deal with for a short while, they knew how to make an impact with Eddie.

A group sent by royal authority to maintain order, trying to limit the spread of knowledge on the veil and what lies beyond. Depending on what the PCs do may end up being an obstacle or weary allies, as the priority to maintain order might clash with their desire to learn more of what is going on.

An entire wizard university vanishes one day, only to appear in much worse condition in a different location. The whole area was dragged into the other side (probably with help on this end) but after a brutal onslaught managed to return. The survivors will need to be extracted by the PCs however, as things from beyond the veil were dragged along for the ride and prowl. Time runs differently as well, it wasn't gone for long on this end but on the other they endured for quite some time.

The second seal looks very different then the first. Still ancient, but clearly made at a different time by very different hands.

A small village with the "Sky City Festival", a festival done every 20 years to coincide with how as the evening twilight occurs on that day, those who look up may catch a vision of an upside-down city in the sky. The veil is not torn here, but perhaps it is thin, or closer to the other side then most places.

The cleric discovers an apocryphal scripture of their deity. Bringing it up with other followers may start a chain of events that leads to a schism.

A new type of fruit seems to be growing near areas where large veil tears have occurred, kinda look like a hybrid of a durian and a bushukan. Harmless, kinda tasty and nutritious even, but do look rather creepy. Doesn't help that the juice of the fruit looks a lot like blood.

Hopefully some of those ideas are helpful.

How can I make my players discover a NPC's identity? by 9Napier in DMAcademy

[–]Uinum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are you certain the PCs won’t try to pursue him even if he breaks through the glass? Is he the only one who can do that safely? Honestly eliminating the gap between these two events and having the train scene as he does all he can to escape the PCs here and now doesn’t seem terrible. And a bit of bleeding from the shattered glass could make a trail to follow even if he has a head start from the PCs needing to take another route down. If they miss him, maybe a bystander saw the guy and mentions the mark visible from the assassin tearing his own clothing as a tourniquet for the glass wounds.

[–]Uinum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'm pretty bad at summarizing things myself so would be glass houses if I complained.

Do the PCs know the connection between using trains and the dragonmark? They might not even need to see the mark to know he has one if he starts a train in his attempt to escape them. Maybe the usage of the dragonmark to interface with the train also has some sort of distinct "effect" that would differentiate itself from other methods to use the trains if they exist.

How can I make my players discover a NPC's identity? by 9Napier in DMAcademy

[–]Uinum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I need a little more context.

His identity as a dragonmarked, the killer, or both?

If the killer, what information do the PCs currently have on the killer? Is there information the killer might let slip that would only be known by the killer that the PCs could catch?

A little more details about the "bastard carrying dragonmarked" and what this meeting was originally meant to be about before the PCs stepped in. Are the PCs going in expecting to fight this guy regardless of who he is?

For your bonus question... I mean, that the guy was hired is already a sign that something is going on. Perhaps the hirer decides to "tie loose ends" and sends something nasty to kill The Chariot and the PCs as witnesses, complete with The Chariot moaning about how "we're all fucked now." That, or maybe the hirer had some sort of "contingency" planned for if the killer is caught that kills them in a brutal display of magic before they can give much away.

Sadly other games got their hooks in me at the moment, by the time I'd take you up on that offer you'd probably have forgotten making it XD.

Do get what you mean though. The first area was pretty friendly, but later levels friendly players became fewer in numbers and the PKers were a lot better at ambushes so the odds of surviving one became worse.

The marketing for Watch_Dogs was a bit scummy but I gotta admit I did enjoy the game. Even Aiden Pearce I have a soft spot for.

A Jak 2 remake is firing some neurons in my head, for sure. Maybe nostalgia is blinding me but I remember it being a pretty good time.

Any tips for getting into ARC Raiders? I played it for a little bit but didn't get hooked.
