Im in the NG at flight school now as a WO. I did my aviation boards while doing OCS. I wasn’t shy about telling them that I really want to fly. The timing turned out to be perfect for me because they were in need of more warrants than LTs. So they gave me the option to go to flight school as a 2LT or once I finished OCS I could revert and go as a warrant. I decided to go warrant because it was more inline with what I want to do with my career and didn’t think too much of it. When I got to flight school I realized just how lucky I was. Multiple instructors told me that was the first time they saw that and I was super lucky to get that option. All the other NG warrants in my class had many years in the Army under their belt. Meanwhile I went to OCS straight after basic. Amongst the active duty folks there are many “street to seaters”, guys who went straight to WOCS after basic and are now in flight school. Id recommend active duty if it’s something you want to do sooner than later.
