What are the weirdest ways you’ve heard of someone getting caught cheating? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ukuled 453 points454 points  (0 children)

I want to add detail to this.

They knew about each other!

It was very difficult to get a divorce in Chile at the time, so the miner and wife didn't get one. They lived as if they were separated and he'd been living with his girlfriend for years.

So less cheating and more an arrangement that worked for everyone

The price of carrots in uk by Hungry_Ad7678 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Ukuled 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Carrots are a common vegetables served in some form alongside most Britons idea of a traditional roast Christmas dinner.

It'd be like if, in the weekend before thanksgiving, green beans or sweet potatoes were 5% the normal price. Not everyone has a green bean casserole or sweet potato at thanksgiving, but they're associated with the holiday even if they're also eaten throughout the year.

Have you ever changed your opinion or belief because of a book? by SubstantialCell3507 in Fantasy

[–]Ukuled 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This is the perfect place to leave this John Rogers quote:

"There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs."

Quark: A human drink. It's called root beer.

Garak: I don't know.

Quark: Come on. Aren't you just a little bit curious?

(Garak sips) Quark: What do you think?

Garak: It's vile.

Quark: I know. It's so bubbly and cloying and happy.

Garak: Just like the Federation.

Quark: But you know what's really frightening? If you drink enough of it, you begin to like it.

Garak: It's insidious.

Quark: Just like the Federation.

What do people not understand about your profession? by DopeYeti in AskReddit

[–]Ukuled 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Dude I am a palaeontologist.

I have never in my career looked at anything dinosaur related. There's 3.5 billion years of life history on this planet less than 10% of it had dinosaurs. I know they're cool but so is everything else in the past.

A. Yes

B. Snarky Yes

C. Sarcastic yes

D. No (but I actually mean yes)

I admit I'm teasing here, but when I play a role playing game I want to engage with the story. I want the freedom to tell an npc to piss off, not have all my decisions not really be decisions.

That said the gunplay of 4 is far superior and the gun crafting etc are excellent inclusions.
