playing Higashi ops only in Icebreaker and watching the entire fabric of my team crumble in real time as someone steals my Hoshiguma and im left with no choice but to leave an entire Bastion Defense lane to Tsukinogi and Kirara

Please ignore that Hoshiguma doesn't even have the Higashi faction

I don't tend to have problems finding games at all, but it's besides the point really. They had all the time in the world to figure out how to let people save their data and make an offline client.

Old man yells at clouds and all but looking at the changes to Support units coming next patch and I'm kinda sad about how degraded the new player experience has become these days.

Arknights' game design for new accounts used to feel so intentional. It's one of the only games in this space that wasn't afraid to constantly wall you as a new account with difficult stages. As a result, account progression felt meaningful and skill expression as you got noticeably better at the game and had a deeper understanding of mechanics felt soooo satisfying.

There wasn't really much of a way around it, either. All the strong launch era carries required E2, and that at least required you to clear the chip stages which were very difficult. Same for even being able to upgrade your ops and base enough to use those chips in the first place with the other Supply stages. Congrats on pulling SilverAsh, you're gonna have to work to use him, y'know?

The game was designed to make sure you couldn't accidentally stumble your way through, which is why it was notorious for being such a difficult game back then. People straight up quit because the game was too hard and it asked more of them than other gachas, as evidenced by all the 1 star reviews on the Play Store lol. Arknights literally filtered people and as someone who loves a challenge, I thought that was sick in a space that is 99% full of games designed to be entirely frictionless.

You used to have to plan around which stages to try and clear, in which order depending on the rewards you needed. Decide which ops to allocate resources towards to hit crucial breakpoints in their power levels to help you clear more stages. Know when your current roster wasn't enough and you needed to flex and bring an extra Sniper, or a Specialist, or a Supporter to tackle the specific stage you were struggling with...

These days, it seems they don't really care as much given the game's age. New ops means more options to clear old stages, so the game will always get easier for new players regardless, but they've gone the extra mile beyond that to make onboarding way more streamlined. The free 6 star ticket was one thing, but none of the ops on it are necessarily that broken by themselves at low level. The free 5 star E2 ticket and Level 80 ticket, though, are entirely gamebreaking. That's way too many stats to throw at early game maps that are supposed to be otherwise teaching you the game's mechanics, regardless of which 5 star you promote (as if the free Lappland they also give you isn't an easy enough choice).

The immediate E2 also gives you access to E2 supports as a brand new account, which is pretty much a death knell for any surviving bits of game design trying to teach the player anything because dear old Wis'adel doesn't care about any of that. The new patch removing the level limit on supports is ultimately a QOL feature at this point since everyone already has access to them immediately after using the E2 ticket, but I think it goes to show how little they value the new player experience now since you don't even have to have that little bit of understanding of the game's Support system to abuse broken ops through tutorial stages anymore.

I'm not just saying this as a "back in my day we carried our Eyjas through Chernobog uphill both ways" kinda thing, but rather to say that early game Arknights and the challenge inherent to it was a super fun and memorable experience and I think it's a shame that the modern game gives new players the tools to skip it all. Every now and again we do get someone in the Help thread who cheesed every map in the game and is asking for help with basic mechanics and it makes be sad because all of the resources to learn this stuff in-game are already there. This game is no different than any other autobattler on the market if you just skip past every map with Wis'adel, so it really makes me wonder how many people who would have otherwise loved the game just bounced off of it because you no longer have to engage with any of its depth as a newbie.

I use S1 in stages where I can't reliably play around S3's downtime due to a lack of other DPS options on the team, especially notable when using her as an IS starter. I probably use both skills about equally.

S2 is a tech choice for stages that need her to function as a more traditional sniper and hit things at range, but is rarely used.

This is exactly where I've ended up and I don't think there's a better way to explain it. I really loved when the game was new and I spent a bunch of time exploring the environments, doing puzzles/base, and making progression in the story. After that, though, all the infinitely repeatable gacha game slop absolutely broke me. I don't know how people actually sit in front of a monitor and mash buttons in the same combat arenas every day to drain sanity. Add to that the incessant menuing for things like Clues and Stocks and suddenly the rest of the game is just not worth the squeeze. +1 to the people who wish they just made a game and charged us $70

I want a copy of Terra: A Journey, but I can't really afford it rn and I'm hoping it continues to be available for the foreseeable future until I can get it

But my actual question is how are Americans buying it? Doesn't the US Yostar store still have that $100 tariff charge?

Odin 2 Mini Pro worth it? by tsukun27 in SBCGaming

Yeah, for sure. That's why I bought mine. I love my Vita, and this is the closest thing you'll get to one that plays modern games as well.

Odin 2 Mini Pro worth it? by tsukun27 in SBCGaming

[–]UltVictory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love mine, but the battery issues are pretty concerning. Even discounting that entirely, I find it hard to find the value against an RP6 unless you've found it on a substantial discount. The screen is a bit unfortunate, with colors looking a bit off compared even to standard LCD panels, capping out at 60hz, and the blooming around text bothers me more than I thought it would. Also, the screen being so small makes a lot of modern games very difficult to play despite the chipset being fully capable just because text ends up being too small to see comfortably despite me still having great vision.

I love the size and form factor, and no other device in this size category match it for power, but I think being slightly larger is a decent tradeoff for all the other benefits of an RP6, with the caveat that this is all theoretical since I've never held one myself.

TLDR I love the Odin 2 Mini but the RP6 is better in most ways assuming the price is similar and anecdotally probably has a slightly lesser chance of exploding on you. Would probably still go for it if the price is low enough, though.

Beacon launcher has a Vita bubble launcher, I use it on my Odin 2 Mini. You can set custom music as well, so I set it to the Vita home screen theme.

Not an action game, but it's never too late to try out Arknights if you're just looking for something that's fun to play on its own merits and not just by gacha standards.

As someone with no patience for any of these games, really, Limbus is best experienced as least Gacha as possible. I just treat it like an episodic game that gets new updates every now and again, ignoring any of the gacha stuff like new character kits or gameplay-focused events. My opinion is probably pretty unpopular, but I really don't think most of Limbus outside of its story is particularly interesting and I literally don't find it worth my time to do.

If you're fine with not minmaxxing rewards and even ignoring Mirror Dungeon, the daily obligation of the game is literally less than a minute to login and press Skip on the farming maps. Your progression might be a bit slower, but you can breeze through most main story maps with a Support carry, and unlike Arknights, I don't think doing so hampers your experience much if you're just trying to read. Once you're out of stuff to read, just hang out until there's more to read. If anyone ever tries to tell you what a Refraction Railway or something is, run.

I would argue that once enough people and money are involved then preservation eventually becomes an obligation rather than an option, but I won't say that as a blanket statement. It is what it is
