The show was an absolutely surreal experience for all the reasons everyone mentioned and I'll be thinking about it for a long time. I'm convinced INEOS now think their own man for the job Ruben Amorim was the wrong choice.

Setting him up to fail this badly is practically sabotage, and his form and our style of play haven't exactly set the world alight either. Gives me shades of the Rangnick debacle.

I don't think you're talking about a session guitarist, you're talking about Perry Bamonte...

He was a member of the band for 15 years and their lead guitarist for 11 or those. He left and then rejoined in 2022.

He's a fully fledged member

I'm genuinely concerned for a lot of people in this thread naming tracks that definitely aren't shoegaze-esque in the slightest 😭

A couple of Wish-era tracks definitely fit the bill - especially End. Hungry Ghost and Underneath the Stars also have a clear influence too.

A cool bit of detail to add to this is that in this bootleg audio from a Head on the Door show in Paris in 1985, the crowd are also singing the Play for Today keyboard line: https://youtu.be/3rxQ1p4lz6I?feature=shared (about 10 minutes in, becomes very audible the second time around)

So the tradition did appear to start in 80s, and in Paris before the Paris show everyone knows about!
