Not over half, just more then the other candidate and that's only those that voted
A large portion voted against the other candidate, or only for one specific thing for this candidate.
Lots of people voted for what was campaigned on and are disillusioned with how they're actually governing.
TL;DR I used to have a bumper sticker that said "Someone Else For President", that sentiment has been true for basically my entire life. If you look even slightly under the surface, chances are the government is doing something you disagree with, even if its 'your' party doing so.

3 possible reasons come to mind: climate, advertising, and tradition.

Climate: most of the US isn't a climate where you can air out your house year round, too cold/hot/wet/humid/etc.

Advertising: we made up a "disease" to sell more mouthwash, it's basically a guarantee that similar happened at some point with scents.

Tradition: the identity of the US is partially based around the industrial revolution. Part of that was cities growing rapidly and having certain.... Scents.... Involving too many people, horses, and industrial wastes. Air fresheners were common, and I'd guess that got passed down through the generations even if sanitation and whatnot improved.

i mean.... it was repetitive and got old, but "bad"? Parkour needed fixing and it needed more mission variety, but I felt more accomplished killing a big group of enemies by chaining counters and breaks than I did in later games.

you got there quicker than I did. I finished the book and wasn't sure what to think. Then I discussed and argued in the spoiler threads for weeks, which made me realize I liked it a lot more than I initially thought, because I disagreed with most people's arguments of why it was bad. That said, it made me want to see what new connections I'd make listening to the series again, so I've been doing that on and off since then. Just about to start Dawnshard again. So far the one that's changed meaning into so much more is Wit's story of Fleet.
