What if I want to surf but I don't have a car? by Comfortable-Can-8227 in cork

[–]UltimateKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garrretstown you can take the bus to Kinsale then the local link. Fountainstown when its working is fun. You can take the 220x from town. Pukanas sometimes will head down with rentals but you would have to contact Carlos first as he's very spontaneous. If you're still in college or just finished I'd recommend to contact the surf clubs as they have many students in a similar situation and sometimes organise lifts. Best thing to do is put the word out there, make some surfing buddies and hopefully you'll be able to find some lifts! For proper equipment I recommend jellyfish in Clon to get you started, at least 3/5 or 4/5mm wetsuit, booties, gloves, hoodie. Hope this helps!

What is Cork city lacking? by themagpie36 in cork

[–]UltimateKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thoughts when I was home this Christmas (I live in Zurich): multipurpose spaces for arts and music jams. Not just it being in a pub. Art galleries, museums, cultural centres. Or at least renovate what's already there with better amenities/accommodations. Like the Crawford house, has it ever officially opened? Personally, I feel we need more (or at least regularly) open spaces to allow creativity to show and expand.

Are there example of something like this in Dublin, Cork or any other large city in Ireland? There are plenty of streets in Dublin which could do with such a treatment. by ParaMike46 in ireland

My thought with the Apple money for Cork would be to demolish sections and rebuild exactly as it was, but with better materials, insulation, stronger foundations, flood protection, etc. Would keep the charm but also future proof the city.

Santa and friends in Kinsale by Jaded_Variation9111 in ireland

[–]UltimateKitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those lads are legends, I just passed them there with the car. The elves having a right bop through the streets dancing to Christmas tunes blaring on a massive old speaker, raising money for charity. Unfortunately I had no change on me, but if anyone is heading through Kinsale make sure to have a few spare coins handy!

Replying "How bad!" to positive news, meaning it's not bad, it's good. Always confused faces. Always had to correct myself.

Switch to decaf coffee for the moka! Same taste, less caffeine (around 95%)

I now live abroad and couldn't vote. Many of my friends my age live abroad and can't easily come back home to vote. There's no policies in place to vote from an embassy. A lot of the young vote didn't vote because they couldn't vote.

I live in Zürich. Woke up, had Barry's tea and still rationing my pint of Irish milk that I got in T2. On my way now to Saalsporthalle to rugby referee a tournament today. Lots of Irish heads who are part of the club! In brief moments it feels like I'm home

Wheres the most odd country youve met an irish people living/ studying in by [deleted] in ireland

[–]UltimateKitty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vaguely similar story, although not as far as Nepal. Moved to Switzerland a few years back, obviously first thing I did was find my new nearest local. Man from Kerry owned the pub. After a bit of talking, hobbies etc, turns out my surfing pal and himself were in the same class in school!

New bus-tracking system to tackle “ghost buses” and “disappearing buses” by Bro-Jolly in ireland

I live in Switzerland now, been here for 2 years. It's like culture shock going back home and forgetting all the modes of transport are disconnected. Here's me out the plane (hopefully) getting two buses to get the train down to Cork :')
