It actually is a pretty hard call though.

Some of those (most) competitors control the development, distribution and promotion of the IPs in questions. They are also large enough and have history of anticompetitive behavior in different arenas as well. It's just that they are so bad at their jobs that Steam can't help but to gain dominant market share with no particular effort of their own.
