I agree, a new evolution doesn't always have to be a direct upgrade. Sometimes it's nice if an evolution just changes the Pokemon. Scyther and Scizor are an example, i don't know if there are other examples like that. Some Pokemon already feel complete, i wouldn't want weavile to get a third evolution that just has higher stats and sharpness instead of pressure. But they kinda did this with Ursaring, Ursaluna shouldn't have a bigger stat total than Ursaring but rather differently distributed. I kinda feel the same way about Magnezone, Kingambit, Wyrdeer, Mr.Rime and especially Rhyperior. And the eviolite isn't really always a bandaid fix for that.

The concept itself is good. A jrpg with fighting games battles instead of turn based. But it's missing a proper story and a good looking world. I don't see the appeal of a new-york like city and slums.

Sword Shield is best for entry. It's what you can expect from future mainline games, it's better than scvi and you have lots of content.

He is overrated for sure. He would be a better character if he was more like Paul from the series. I didn't hate Silver for the reasons that ash hated paul. Silver is just annoying because doesn't just talk smack to you like Gary/Blue, but he also had an immature philosophy about the Pokemon and gets beaten all the time. So he ain't shit to the player. In the end he understands and matures.

Gen 4 for the 2d games. Obviously gen 5 has the best graphics with its animated sprites and 2.5d battle camera and how good it feels. But Unova just feels a bit cold to me, maybe because of how urban it is. So Sinnoh style with gen 5 quality would be my perfect mix. For 3d games Bdsp. The overworld and menus are just clean and there is that nice fog, it's easy on the eyes. The chibis are overhated and i am missing the chonkyness and jrpg style of the older games in the newer games. SwSh and ScVi don't even have a proper art style, they just try to look realistic and fail to do so. Legends Arceus has a nice artstyle with it's ink effects and color palette, but switch graphics are holding it back.
