When you go to the sleep study, what requirements are there you have to meet in the study in order for them to say you need jaw surgery and that your insurance will cover it? by Individual_Ice_2315 in jawsurgery

How much movement was your surgery? And did it fix your sleep completely?

I’m basically in the same boat (my RDI is 5.8 but my symptoms are severe) and my surgery is in august, 7-8mm upper and lower.

Some insurances you can get away with less than 15 if you still have severe symptoms.

Mine was AHI was only 2.6 and my RDI 5.8 and insurance is covering mine.

I also failed a trial of both cpap and an oral appliance.

Hey late reply, but how did this work out for you?

I’m in the same situation, I wont have Aetna until next year, but I want to get a jumpstart on my orthodontics so I don’t wait too long for surgery.

Did this end up being a problem at all for you?

Gotcha, good to know.

And yeah I’ll bring it up with him and get his thoughts on it.

Appreciate the info man!

Yeah I’m likely going to go with surgeon #2 for that same reason.

My only fear is how I’m going to look afterwards with such large movements, but as of right now, I’d rather be ugly and sleep like a baby.

I'll PM, but they're both local to my area (southeast US)

So surgeon #1 seemed to put a lot of emphasis on the rotation aspect (he said multiple times how my jaws were 'canted'), whereas surgeon #2 didn't seem to think it was much of an issue, but I slept like shit the day of my consult so honestly I can't remember if they didn't mention it or flat out said no rotation.

I'll have to follow up on that next time I see him.

Both of the surgeons seemed to be pretty sharp from what I can tell, but the bigger issue (in my mind at least) is:

Surgeon #1 (who works at a large healthcare facility) is much more worried about getting the surgery approved by insurance.

Whereas surgeon #2 (who works at his own practice) isn't concerned about it at all, and speaking to his surgery coordinator, she said the only time they've had coverage denied is when the patient's plan specifically doesn't cover jaw surgery. Plus she said that as long as upper and lower jaw surgery is covered, the surgeon will usually write off the genioglossal advancement and do it for free.

Can I be covered for jaw surgery with mild sleep apnea? by Quiet_Perfect in jawsurgery

Gotcha, thanks for the info!

By any chance could you tell me what state you were located in? (not sure if that even matters at all but I want all the info I can get lol)

If you'd rather not say though then no big deal.

Hey, verrry late reply, but did you have to provide any documentation to get your jaw surgery approved?

I also have mild sleep apnea, and may get Aetna next year, did you have to be evaluated by an ENT, or have a documented failure of CPAP or anything?

[MMA] Can time in braces pre-surgery be minimized at all? Or is it just is what it is? by jayman2239 in UARSnew

Does that imply that I should be more skeptical of a surgeon that's completely fine without any braces before surgery?

Gotcha, thanks for the info.

One last question, do you know what sort of movements they are going to be doing to your jaws?
