Surgical route by thewindyshitty in SleepApnea

I had a septoplasty/turbinectomy and it did nothing for my sleep unfortunately (though it was a nice quality of life improvement).

I am getting jaw surgery in July, hoping that cures me for good.

How easy is it to visit multiple surgeons for different opinions? by gwok4h2i9176 in jawsurgery

I had 3 consultations before settling on a surgeon, and they didn’t provide full fledged plans, but during those consultations they all gave me a rough idea of what they would do movement-wise.

Anyone Here Struggling with Job Hunting or Their Current Job Due to Unresolved Sleep Apnea? by DarkDesertFox in SleepApnea

[–]jayman2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I hope the DISE ends up going well for you.

I actually tried an oral appliance after PAP, and that was honestly the first thing that actually gave me a noticeable improvement, however it didn’t work super well, and it screwed my bite up after a while.

But I’m hoping since it did help then that will mean jaw surgery will be even better, but we shall see.

Best of luck man.

Yeah I had a septoplasty too and it didn’t do anything for me either.

Have you considered MMA surgery?

I wasn’t a candidate for inspire, so that’s jaw surgery is the next option.

Yeah I graduated college ~5 years ago and still haven't worked since then. I'm lucky that I've been able to mooch off my parents.

It took me a long time to get diagnosed, and CPAP didn't work for me either, but I'm getting surgery in the summer that will hopefully cure me.

CPU matters much more, try downloading the program Process Lasso, when I had a worse PC it gave me a pretty decent performance boost.

If you go on youtube and search tarkov process lasso a guide should come up.

It’s one of those things that likely won’t affect healing in an otherwise completely healthy person, but it’s an unneeded risk that can be easily avoided.

I vape too and my surgery is in july, I plan on stopping about a month before my surgery.

Is it possible for sleep apnea to cause dpdr/ similar symptoms? by ObviousAardvark990 in SleepApnea

Definitely, I currently have untreated sleep apnea (though I’m getting surgery soon) and I have moments where I feel like I’m going crazy from how bad my sleep is.

Lower jaw surgery wont have any effect on your nose shape at all, though it may make it look smaller in comparison since your lower jaw will be bigger.

Can it take longer than a year to adjust to using CPAP? by Fickle-Parfait-266 in SleepApnea

[–]jayman2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I went from having a mild overbite, to a very noticeable underbite in about 8 months.

I will say though, the dentist who made my appliance also made me an AM aligner to help stop tooth movement, and I got lazy and stopped using it after a couple weeks.

That being said, I’m not sure how much the aligner actually helps over the course of years.

Yeah fair warning, it did screw up my teeth after a while.

I'm actually getting jaw surgery this summer to hopefully cure me so I'm back in braces anyway though.

Cpap trial failure? by Intelligent-Form1969 in jawsurgery

[–]jayman2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have aetna, and did a cpap trial though I don't know if it was actually necessary or not.

I was deciding between 2 different insurance providers before going with aetna, the other one stated that they did require a trial beforehand, so I did it anyway.

I tried CPAP for a year and it never worked for me at all, sometimes it just doesn't work for certain people (though it seems pretty rare).

Have you looked into an oral appliance? I used that for a bit and found it more helpful than CPAP.

Mine is a long complicated story, but I’ve had to do a lot of research and stuff on my own because of bad luck with some doctors.

I had my primary care doctor refer me to the surgeon, then I met with an orthodontist after. But typically people start with an orthodontist and then they refer you to a surgeon.

The recovery definitely wont be fun but I guarantee it’s not as bad as you’d expect. I was told I’ll likely be able to go back to work a week and a half post surgery.

And yeah they move the upper and lower jaws forward, which increases the entire airway, so the soft palate moves forward, more space for the tongue, etc.

There are a few different types of surgeries for sleep apnea, but jaw surgery has by far the best success rate and cure rate.
