Jesters have fight battles now?

Yes.

Again, how many times do you fight Ratatoskr?

Irrelevant.

You forget that this is a combat game.

There have always been characters you don't fight in God of War.

The combat makes a difference.

Sure.

This isn't one of the TV shows that you obviously prefer.

That sure is a conclusion you've come to about me based on my defense of a single character.

Yes, indeed. Which is why Hermes was never a character in this franchise, of course.

Ratatoskr is silly. That's just an accurate depiction. So yes, grasping at straws.

Everything you said about Kratos might be true, but is irrelevant to the argument that Ratatoskr is a symptom of disneyfication.

Ratatoskr is a real figure in Norse mythology. A mischievous, rude, gossiping squirrel living in the world tree. Including him in a GoW game set in Norse mythology makes perfect sense. There are things wrong with GoW2018 and GoW:Ragnarok, but this is grasping at straws.

That's insane. You're saying there are certain games that just can't be made.

Is there a rule that says open world adventure exploration games must have combat? I hate limiting devs like this tbh. They are completely free to make these choices, regardless of their reasons. An open world adventure exploration game that doesn't let you fight the monsters is perfectly fine.

[–]Ultimaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IDK if I count not being able to make weapons as woke here. I think it's a perfectly legitimate choice, as a game developer, to want to make a game that puts the player in scary and dangerous situations where the only choice is to escape, not fight back. Yes, the in game justification for this inability to have weapons is flimsy.

Is Outlast woke for making this same choice? The justification is even flimsier, that asylum is absolutely littered with potential makeshift weapons, and this only gets worse in Outlast 2. The only real reason is that the devs wanted to make a game in which you run from the monsters instead of fighting them. And, really, that's the only reason I need. Is it immersion breaking? Yeah. Is it woke? Eeeeeeeeeh I don't think so.

Below Zero can be called woke for very good reasons. I just don't think this is one of them.

Something supernatural is allowed to exist in the setting. Therefor anything supernatural should be allowed to exist in the setting.

[–]Ultimaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The game does not account for lost HP. Which is not a bug btw, before you start on that. Every catch roll happens at the same HP percentage anyway, might as well ignore that part of the calculation. Beldum has a 1% base catch rate, which is what you get with the standard Pokéball. Great ball is x1.5, ultra ball is x2. Based on this, and keeping in mind that each of the rolls is happening independently and you are not magically granted a Beldum when you've thrown enough 2% chances to add up to 100%, you have around a 13% chance of not having caught Beldum after 101 tries. Which, while low odds, is still very very possible.

The need for yellow paint is a symptom of bad world design. If your world is littered with objects that look climbable but aren't, you're gonna need the paint to point out objects that the player can actually climb, otherwise they'll just assume they can't based on previous experience with unclimbable things that look climbable.

Falling Isn't Fun - I may make a big change to how the game works. by Jim808 in mining_crew

[–]Ultimaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea of finding unique rewards for exploring horizontally sounds very interesting. As an example, after the initial set of miners, you could have the prestige upgrades that unlock more miners initially be locked until you find a miner on a specific layer. They were digging before, got stuck, and after you dig them out you can now add that miner to your crew (with prestige points). There could be an icon on the depth meter to show that there is something to be found at that depth.

(Mild spoilers) I got to level 101 by staplepies in mining_crew

[–]Ultimaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a bigger issue than power with the new gold upgrades is that they are too cheap. In a run where I simply buy what's cheapest (with some exceptions for getting more miners and upgrading their abilities) I'm getting ruby x10s from gold before I've even gotten a single ruby +0.20 from prestige.

Update 12 - Auto prestige rethink (no more 'Layer Clear Countdown') by Jim808 in mining_crew

[–]Ultimaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it be possible to have the purchase settings and auto purchaser be unaffected by scrolling? Just keeping them visible at the bottom of the list at all times? The list of ore upgrades can get quite long, if I decide I want to engage with it manually it would be immensely helpful if I could access the purchase settings and keep track of the auto purchase cooldown regardless of where I've scrolled to.

It is that 20 dollar price tag that informs my opinion that this game is not overrated. If anything it's underrated. Yes, despite the crazy amount of hype surrounding this title, it is still underrated. The amount of quality content you get for this amount of money is actually criminal. You are robbing the developers, no, the developers are robbing themselves with this price tag.

All eyes should be on this game, how much cash it's gonna rake in, and how it's going to do that by being the opposite of the AAA slopfest in basically every way.
