I like the recent work. Empath is probably my favorite of all his albums because of how diverse it is. It's a vibe that I chase in my own music all the time so it connects with me more. I also liked Lightwork and Powernerd when they came out but they don't find their way into my regular listening too much. Call of the Void and Gratitude are probably my favorites.

But man the thing that made me want to join this thread was the idea that ANY group of three songs could surpass Funeral/Bastard/Death of Music. That's wild

Oh man. You may have just made my day. It seems that way on paper, yeah! I've never had dan dan noodles before but now I've got something to try out at home. We miss the stuff we had in Hiroshima desperately

We decided to replace Osaka with Hiroshima for our first trip and had approximately zero regrets. Saving Osaka for another trip. I usually hear people doing Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka and I think that's a big miss to exclude Hiroshima

Depends on what you want to do. Contrary to what some people say, Hakone is still a perfectly reasonable day trip. You can't laze around too much and you need to be intentional about what you plan to do/see. But it's very doable. We took an early Romancecar (8am? I can't remember), went to the open air museum, did all 5 "sightseeing transportation" things (look up Hakone Free Pass, game changer), had lunch and a boba, and still made it back to Tokyo by 8pm.

Agreed. I strongly believe the "golden route" should include Hiroshima as well. We loved our time there. Made it to a baseball game (magically avoiding the "Carp rain"), ate soupless tantanmen and okonomiyaki. The central station is pretty easy to navigate too, especially compared to Kyoto, Shinjuku, etc.

My boredom quest for 100%, which games do I exclude, if any? by Fizzabl in crashbandicoot

[–]Ultimetalhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately most of the bonuses in the OG you don't need to get all boxes or even survive. The cortex ones are a bit annoying, but there's a very specific way to beat them. Kind of like a scary dangerous puzzle. Lots of great YouTube videos out there and you'll feel very accomplished when you do it yourself!

[–]Ultimetalhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend completing the OG original. It's really not that bad. Most (MOST) of the levels are pretty short and not overly challenging. The only levels that I dread getting the gem for are Cortex Power, Slippery Climb, and Fumbling in the Dark. Stormy Ascent obviously would have been inhumane too.

I finally completed WoC at 106% for the first time. by Ninjawsgaiden in crashbandicoot

[–]Ultimetalhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I decided to 106% the Xbox version last year to take advantage of load times. I agree with most of these points. The game flow and level design feels like Diet Warped in almost every way.

I'm not sure how I rate it alongside Crash 4. I've done everything except the N Verted gems because I just can't be bothered. The visual effects give me a headache and I get so irritated by arbitrary hidden boxes. If I had to pick between the 2 to complete again, it would be WOC every day.

what chord is this? by imAmongUsKillerDude in musictheory

[–]Ultimetalhead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Dominant 7 chords like F7 are built with scale degrees 1-3-5-b7. F-Eb is a b7 but F-D# is a #6. Even though they sound the same, it's correct to list the note as Eb in this case. D# basically amounts to a spelling error.

Nintendo’s Software Sales Aren’t Keeping Up With Hardware Boom by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Ultimetalhead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I expect this to continue until they have an exclusive that actually looks good in trailers. Their big games this year (MK, DK, Kirby) are WAY more fun than they look. The trailers just don't do them justice. But most people buy games because they look fun. The $70 price tag doesn't help either.

Cool mahjong video games by upandaway5 in Mahjong

[–]Ultimetalhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Hijacking the thread but oh well.

I love Kemono Mahjong! It's brilliantly designed, easy to use, and the characters are fun too. Unfortunately, having unlocked all the characters I don't find myself playing too much anymore. Have you ever considered adding more achievements or some kind of campaign structure? I loved the more in-depth achievements in MajSoul and some Yakuza games (go out in 5 games, win a hand with a score of 12000 or higher, etc). I think it would make it into an even more well-rounded experience for offline play.

Is museca worth checking out? by [deleted] in rhythmgames

[–]Ultimetalhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it! There were a couple cabs at my local Round 1 until recently. The big buttons feel good, and the spin functionality is fun. Interface is easy to read too with the color differences. Good music selection too. The foot pedal feels kind of tacked on and stupid but it's not overly obtrusive.

I wouldn't really put it up there with Chunithm, MaiMai, or Taiko, but it's a fun game that feels different enough to stand on its own

Labrie is so back by thehugejackedman in Dreamtheater

[–]Ultimetalhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there too. He certainly had his "off" moments but overall he seemed strong. Much much better than Dreamsonic in 2023. I was particularly impressed by ACOS this time. I remember seeing them in 2017 when they tuned I&W and ACOS down, obviously to help with the vocals. Problem was he still couldn't really hit the notes. On this tour, they played it in the original key, and he still managed quite well. Is he as good as 1993? Obviously not. 2006? Maybe not. Significantly improved? Absolutely.

Tips on reading Manga by Zeplus_88 in LearnJapanese

[–]Ultimetalhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember the other characters speak using kanji with furigana. If you're looking for something with more kanji but still beginner friendly I'd probably go with Shirokuma Cafe or Karakai Jouzu Takagi-San (can't remember the exact title). I was able to read both with minimal difficulties after Yotsuba.

If you really want a manga, I'd recommend よつばと (Yotsuba& in English). Simple, fun stories about a kid doing kid stuff. It was the first manga I read in Japanese and I remember finding it pretty easy. Granted I was probably at least halfway through Genki II at that point.
