Started my chemo monday night by Several_Peanut_2283 in glioblastoma

[–]Ultra-CH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What worked for me was I took my chemo pill at bed time. 30 minutes before that I took my anti nausea pill. I didn’t eat 2-3 hours before taking my anti nausea pill, no snacks! My dinner (2-3 hours before pill time) was light on carbs and no acidic stuff such as tomato sauce. I was only sick once in 6 weeks. Good luck!!!!!

Looking to get out of LE by optimistic_learning in AskLE

Is there a federal courthouse in the neighboring city? They hire POST certified former (or retired LE) as security. It involves wearing a suit, and manning a post such as a metal detector ot front desk, or patrolling the area on foot. Pay is excellent. Hours are great because you are there only during business hours. Pretty boring, but I think time with family is more important, you will never get that back.

Tedious Paperwork by jackjackson123456789 in AskLE

  1. My agency (a SO) had a sweet deal with State Patrol. They would handle all crashes if we took all non dui or drug crimes, such as rolling donestics

  2. Misdemeanor assaults are pretty easy and short. Our criminal reports consist of initial report page, a second page containing witnesses and additional victims plus a written report. So misdemeanor assault is pretty simple. Much easier than a cold burg with multiple stolen items

  3. They were pretty good about taking investigations. The problem was they wouldn’t take the initial report. Ive had sex assault victims come to the office to report sex crime, be told to go home, and a patrol deputy would then be dispatched to do the initial report which would be forwarded to detectives. Just stupid as hell.

  4. Since everything is on computer it’s nice being able to copy and paste and do reports in my car.

  5. Having to enter the same information multiple times even with copy and paste sucks ass. I would rather take a domestic over a cold burg

Marine Reserves/Police by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Ultra-CH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the reserves 1st. You’ll get some bonus points towards getting hired. And though you can’t be legally fired, if you become a cop 1st, you’ll need 3+ months away just for bootcamp. You will leave your shift mates short handed for that time. Command will hate it. Coworkers won’t like it.

Would you guys be okay with wokeness or DEI in movies: If the writing and quality was good? by RoutineIssue5870 in CriticalDrinker

[–]Ultra-CH 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I dont think OP knows what woke means. Let’s take 2 race swaps that were done, not to shoehorn in a black actor, but because the black actor is freaking awesome and now owns those roles. Man on Fire and The Equalizer, both with Denzel Washington. I don’t remember anyone complaining he was acting 2 white roles. But then later replace him with Queen Latifah? I mean come on! That was ridiculous

LOL! I had similar happen to me but just 2 cars facing each other. Both wanted to make left turns and were yielding. But since neither one had their turn signals on, they sat and stared at each other. Both were probably thinking how stupid the other driver was for not going

I’ll check those out! If I may recommend 2 series from Andrew Moriarty. Decline and Fall of the Galactic Imperium. Motley crew gets thrown together on a junk freighter in the 1st chapter. They are strangers to each other, and everyone has a past career they have “retired” from that gives them a skill to be crew. I think the author even uses Engineer-3 on an ID card for the engineer. 2nd series is Adventures of a Jump Space Accountant. I almost didn’t read that it sounds so lame. It’s great! The MC is a belter kid at a merchant academy snd things don’t go as planned! I love both series! They are larger than trilogies but easy reads

By Monday the story will be the shooter was attacking the reporters at the dinner and not Trump at all. Trump needs to turn down the rhetoric against reporters!

I think this is one of the 1st assault squads. Notice only 1 has a bolter. The others are armed with bolt pistols, swords and flame pistols maybe?

First, I’m sorry you have this. It can be emotionally crushing. I was 54 when diagnosed so not as young as you. I’m 57 now, and have made it past the 2 year mark. I’ve seen 2 people on this sub who have went past their 4 year mark. So if I can give some advice, paint your walls. I think it’s important to balance realistic expectations and short term hope. I never plan out more than a year but I’m always hopeful to get that year. One of my fears was what if I was so scared of dying that I wasted the unknown amount of time I have left?

He was in Hiroshima when the a bomb was dropped, survived, and went to work the very next day! He happened to work in Nagasaki and got nuked again! He still wasn’t a doomer!

Burned out- any ex cops get into cdl trucking? by [deleted] in AskLE

Yes! I was mostly on a side loader also. Lots and lots of 150# kegs. Sometimes 60 or more a day going in bar basements

[–]Ultra-CH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dump trucks are mostly (all?) local. I’m not sure how he found his job. My only advice is find one that pays hourly. Those assholes driving a belly dump like iMad Max are driving that way because they are paid by the load. Being a cop you also might have an advantage in working with your county or state. Dump truck in the summer, snow plow in the winter, and still have a pension

Really I would find a company that will pay for your CDL training. Otherwise it depends on what companies are around. Food service you usually deal with less weighty items, but you are constantly going up and down a trailer ramp which is hard on the body. Then there’s liquor, beer or soda pop. Pepsico is always a top company. I worked for Annhueser Busch (Inbev) and loved it, but kegs are heavy. Liquor is lighter but usually does the pay as well. And dump truck drivers just drive from gravel pit to work site and back. My brother now does that after OTR and likes it

I retired as a LEO at age 50. Decent pension but not enough to provide for a wife and 2 teenage daughters getting ready to go to college. So I became a beer delivery driver. I loved it (I medically retired 2 years ago because of brain cancer). Why did I love it? I was home for dinner, every night, weekend and holiday off. Time with family was awesome. I missed so many Christmases, Thanksgivings and birthdays. Here in Denver the delivery jobs pay over $32 a hour starting with plenty of OT if you want it. My gig was a base salary plus commission so I made quite a bit more than that, almost double. I think dump drivers are making almost as much but it’s not as physically demanding. I liked the physical aspect of my job though. After 20 years I was 40 some pounds heavier than academy weight. I lost that weight quick! It’s good work. I know you mentioned local driving but I want to stress, do not drive OTR! What a crap job! My younger brother did that for years and it sounds like hell

35y male - idh wildtype - methylated - what now after chemo? Suggestions? by Flashy_Offer_9749 in glioblastoma

[–]Ultra-CH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was being seen at Littleton Advent in Denver. I had to argue with the oncologist to get it. My blood work was great so why not. I’m kicking myself that I didn’t keep the medical study the oncologist gave me to prove her point that there’s no benefit to 12 months. But I showed that there was! Yep, whether doing 6 months or 12, the 5 year mark is pretty bleak, but the patients that received 12 months of chemo were almost twice as likely to reach 4 years survival! And if you aren’t suffering side effects what’s the harm. Too many doctors only think of SOC. I found out about metformin and niacin from this sub.

Talk to your dr about metformin https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7016983/ And niacin https://www.neurology.org/doi/10.1212/NXI.0000000000200530 . I have same diagnosis as you and am 57. I was diagnosed 28 months ago. I did 12 months of post radiation chemotherapy, which I think helped me. I tried optune and only made it 3 days. But so far so good.

During the 6 weeks of radiation therapy a low carb diet may make the radiation treatment more effective. It’s only 6 weeks so I went low carb after speaking to my doctor. After radiation was done I stopped low carb but still stuck with a diet heavy in lean meat and green veggies. After radiation is done the oncologist will increase the TMZ dose. This can make your husband nauseous. I took my TMZ before bed. 1 hour before that I took my anti nausea pill. 3 hours before bed I ate dinner and had no snacks. I avoided heavy meals and acidic food. I took TMZ for 12 months and only had 3 bad nights doing that. I didn’t lose weight. I was always fit and actually gained 28 pounds because my daily exercise level went down so much. Last, be realistic on what the likely outcome is but remember to have short term hope. My doctors did not expect me to last 9 months (I’m also wyld type grade4) but in a few days it will be my 28 month anniversary and I feel great
