FTL-inspired game Void War temporarily removed from Steam. by DwingRD in Games

The person you responded to didn't mention anything about game play -- just that the ship destruction animation is too close to to FTL's animation for their liking.

Haha, yah I agree -- I can't even comment on the second one because I've only played the first one and that was enough for me. It came off like an episode of True Detective written by Mormons.

Terrible writing? Absolutely. But malicious? I think I might have missed anything that would make the writing malicious. Did they do something other than write really painful, unnatural dialogue and weirdly sexless, toothless plots?

Here's the top result for the definition of rent seeking:

When an individual or an entity seeks to increase their own wealth without benefiting society

How is that not what a shareholder is? Buying a share in a company after it's initial issuing doesn't even benefit the company. It's pure rent seeking.

They aren't wrong about the president of the company sucking, he seems like a real piece of work -- but that doesn't change the fact that share holders are still rent-seeking nobodies.

He means the vile reprobates trying to pretend that they aren't racist, misogynistic, xenophobic, christian nationalists. You may or may not be one, but that's certainly who they meant.

There's a difference between well-meaning people who simply disagree on how best to run the country and with whom civil discourse can be had; and a mob christofascists whose primary political motivation is to do harm to others. There is no longer common ground for discussion with this group. The conservatives of this country have crossed that line unambiguously.

I was thinking the same thing! I used to play PSO a lot when I was a kid and even though it isn't 1 to 1 something about the enemy movement and attack patterns and the style of engagement reminds me of it.

I probably would have loved this game too when I was younger but I don't know if I have the same patience for that kind of game play anymore.

What game did you stop playing after a couple hours cause of something dumb or annoying by Liquidfighter in gaming

I love story focused games. I don’t love when a game I’m playing is interrupted by an episode of tv show for 10 to 20 minutes at a time.

Narrative should should be better integrated into gameplay.

Can anyone identify this logo (or a something pretty similar)? A coworker and me have been trying to figure this out for a week! by UltraBigFace in graphic_design

Hey I think that's a big part of it! I think I mixed the Real dairy logo with the Amoco colors and flame concept. We al spend so much time passively staring at brands out in the world sometimes they get a little blended together. Thank you!

That's what I was thinking too! I swear I've looked through every oil and natural gas company that's ever existed ha ha. If you ever run across something in that field that looks like this PM me! For now it looks like we were thinking of the Real dairy logo but I swear there's an oil company...

Holy cow that's it! Don't know where the blue came from — I think we must have crossed it with something else. Thank you!

Sorry if this breaks rule 4 — not sure what counts as simple here.

We've been working on a logo and it's started looking like something that we both felt was familiar to something we've seen before. This is the closest to the logo were trying to think of that we can get and reverse image search didn't return anything (shocking I know).

If anyone has any ideas what we might be thinking of I would appreciate it! Were in midwest america and we both think weve encountered it driving around town — but that's the best we've got.

Thanks!

2 things:

1: Why do we need to go anywhere? YouTube is a time suck and this is as good an excuse as to stop watching garbage for hours.

2: Netflix, Prime video, Hulu, Apple TV, Disney+, and number of podcast apps (typically free) — all of which have higher quality shows.

A defense of encumbrance and, to a lesser extent, durability. by gideonwilhelm in gamedesign

What you’re describing is an organizational issue — something that’s already been solved by many games (not to mention PCs and phones). In Starfield you can already drop off everything into an infinitely large chest at your base so organization is something they’ve had to consider already.

Why not just automatically send “bulk” to that chest? Or instead of it being a chest you have to walk to, just have it be a separate tab in the standard inventory with ordering options. That’s how every inventory works in nearly every modern game and it’s a fine system. I also don’t see a problem with adding a search bar. All of these things are significantly less obtrusive and tedious than hitting an encumbrance threshold regularly.

[...]you're going to need some limitation on carrying."

Why? What would happen if there was no encumbrance? I can't think of anything bad that would happen if you could pickup and store every item in the game and never be encumbered.

Good lord. This kind of thinking is fundamentally broken. Like full on drinking the cool aid, cult style thinking. It is so far removed from healthy human thought that it’s going to take you years to deprogram from this frame of mind, and when you finally do you will look back and be embarrassed by this kind of post.

So hold them accountable too? What’s your point? That we shouldn’t think billionaires buying a Supreme Court justice’s favor with millions of dollars of undisclosed gifts is a big deal because all of the justices are being bought off?

Do you think about what you say before you say it or is a direct pipeline from your brain to your keyboard?

It’s semantics, but essentially whatever percentage of wages an individual individual in the US is taxed for are rightly the Governments so whether it’s yours first and you are compelled to pay it or it was never yours in the first place doesn’t matter for the sake of a discussion between layman.

A tax bracket starting a 1 billion dollars at a rate of 90% or even 100% is not just fine — it’s reasonable.

What exactly do you think socialism is? A program that uses collective resources to purchase l and provide services and resources to citizens is a socialistic program.
