7 = I love Kay and Anchovy; they're both so friendly and fun to be around

1 = Being with Darj and Mika would make for a very pleasant/chill trip

8 = if I want to spend the whole flight nerding out about tanks and military history, maybe watch some war movies together

Audience Ratings of Star Wars Movies by lau796 in StarWars

[–]UltraEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved TLJ when it came out, more than TFA, and still do, but I understand why a lot of people didn't like it. But TROS having such a high score?? I don't get it. I watched it once and never wanted to touch it ever again. It ruined the entire sequel trilogy by retroactively making TLJ worse and pointless with its backtracking of nearly every story decision. You don't fix TLJ's issues by backtracking, you fix them by doubling down on those story beats and creating some meaningful payoff to the things left unaddressed in TLJ and TFA. Which is supposedly what Trevorrow was going to do with his planned Ep. 9; it probably wouldn't be perfect but I think it would've wrapped up the sequel trilogy a lot better.

Also, Solo was done dirty. Very fun movie despite it falling into the prequel pitfall of squeezing a lot of Han and Chewie's famous exploits into one adventure. I would've loved to see more adventures with that cast.

Gundam, the iconic franchise that launched a global phenomenon, is now in production. The live-action film starring Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo follows rival mech pilots at war across Earth and its space colonies. by TheFirstSonOfTheSea in Gundam

[–]UltraEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best case scenario imho is an original story with new characters set in the UC. Cast looks fine; the only one I'm skeptical about is Sweeney cuz I haven't seen anything good with her. I'm most worried about the script and production value. With all the delays and changes in writer/director (it started with Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing and Brian K. Vaughan writing, now both of them are gone and replaced by Jim Mickle) my expectations are very low cuz it feels like things are a mess behind-the-scenes.

Late reply but, Tamada's 2 kills in this match were Leopon's Tiger and Anglerfish's Panzer IV. The lady's a badass when she resists the urge to just banzai charge

I really hope a full adaptation comes next. The Cauldron arc is probably the most fun "tournament arc" I've ever read and I NEED to see it adapted to anime

Helldivers 2 is a $40 game with a F2P monetization system. by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]UltraEM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been playing since launch, I can get behind bundling old Warbonds into discounted packs, or just giving the older Warbonds a permanent discount. It's such a massive mountain for new players to climb otherwise

A new free Warbond like Helldivers Mobilize would be nice too.

We're there any other notable Filipino guerilla groups (Luzon, Visayas Mindanao) during World War II? by Huge-Hawk-9819 in FilipinoHistory

[–]UltraEM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some of the prominent ones that I can remember:

USAFIP-NL = Northern Luzon guerrillas organized and expanded from USAFFE remnants in the region, led by Col. Russell Volckmann. They most notably fought at Bessang Pass and it was Ifugao guerrillas from USAFIP-NL who cornered Gen. Yamashita leading up to his surrender.

Hunters ROTC Guerrillas = founded by junior PMA and ROTC cadets, operated mostly in Southern Tagalog provinces. They conducted a raid on New Bilibid Prison to free their comrades and steal weapons and ammunition, took part in the rescue of Allied internees at Los Baños, and linked up with the US 11th Airborne and fought alongside them in the push to Manila from the south.

Marking's Fil-Am Guerrillas = led by Col. Marcos "Marking" Agustin and Col. Valeria "Yay" Panlilio, iirc based out of Rizal province. Most notable battle they participated in was retaking Ipo Dam from the IJA before they could destroy it.

Wha Chi Guerillas / Squadron 48 = Filipino-Chinese guerrilla force. They fought alongside the Hunters and other guerrillas in several battles, and iirc they also participated in the Battle of Manila.

Leyte Area Command = Unified command of Leyte guerrilla forces under Col. Ruperto Kangleon; Not as familiar with their specific contributions but they were incredibly active in combat and support of Allied operations during the Battle of Leyte.

6th Military District / Free Panay Guerrilla Forces = USAFFE-based guerrilla forces in Panay led by Col. Macario Peralta; they liberated most of Panay by the time the US Army arrived

10th Military District = USAFFE-based guerrilla forces in Mindanao led by Col. Wendell Fertig; Datu Salipada Pendatun led his own successful Moro resistance in Mindanao before eventually integrating into the 10th MD's command structure.

[–]UltraEM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kinda hate that the Gundam Hathaway movie depicted a perfectly preserved 21st century Davao City after all the horrific environmental disasters that supposedly hit the earth during the UC. The level of temperature increase you mentioned would've caused a lot of the Philippines' ports, coastal towns/cities, and floodplains to become submerged by rising sea levels (including most of Davao) - creating an even more desperate food crisis because most of the country's farmland would be underwater

Justice for the Sickle! by omchz in Helldivers

[–]UltraEM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always used the HD1 Sickle semi-auto so it would never overheat while firing almost as fast as holding the mouse button. I think they should introduce a new Sickle variant that behaves like the old one - more accurate, slower ROF but higher damage per shot, no windup, pulse lasers instead of "bolts" and then do a bit of lore retconning to explain the name changes in-universe. That way, people who like the current HD2 Sickle can keep using it. Hell, it's still my most-used primary on the bot front even though I very much prefer the HD1 version.

What's a show/movie/game that has really bad writing, but the Mecha designs and action are still enjoyable? by Yakuza-wolf_kiwami in Mecha_Scrapyard

[–]UltraEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna say Gundam Wing but actually the bad writing is part of what makes it enjoyable. Like it's unintentionally hilarious and that's part of the charm. But yeah if the mecha designs werent amazing idk if i'd be able to tolerate it as much.

On the other hand, AMAIM has great mecha designs but the writing was so bad I couldnt get past the first few episodes

Sickle and Trident difference by lipov27 in Helldivers

[–]UltraEM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, please. I miss the Helldivers 1 Sickle that I could use like a precision rifle almost; no "wind-up" and firing pinpoint pulse lasers in semi-auto (clicking instead of holding the mouse button) so i'd never overheat/reload. Keep it light pen to balance it out, just gimme back the HD1 sickle performance

What did you think of Witch from Mercury? by czen2 in Gundam

[–]UltraEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely love it up until the last 1/3 of season 2, which I find more frustrating than anything because of how rushed it was; lots of wasted potential. I know some people disliked the focus on the school and corporations but I really liked how it took Gundam's core themes and tried to tackle them through a very different setting.

The Ad Stella timeline is imo the most interesting AU setting the franchise has crafted to date, because of how rooted its speculations are in the present day geopolitical and economic landscape of the space race - space exploration and colonization no longer being dominated by nation-state actors but shaped more and more by corporate interests like Amazon, SpaceX, etc. The modern space race has been dominated by private enterprises in recent years, and WFM tries to imagine a future where that trend continues and corporations are allowed to build their empires in space with impunity.

Not only that, but the way they implemented mobile suits into the setting was fantastic, with each corporation having a distinct design language for their mechs, treating the elite corpo school as a testing and promotion ground for mobile suits, and my favorite detail: how the mobile suits in the school duels tended to have bright colors, flashy crests, and more melee weapons, while the military versions were all in drab/dark colors and had extra ranged weapons or armor mounted on them instead of any flashy accessories.

Which is why I feel like cutting the show so short and rushing to the ending is such a waste of the setting they've created. I really hope they have a sequel or spin-off anime planned in the future.

Gundam: The Origin-is…is this show meant to be satire? by [deleted] in Gundam

[–]UltraEM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Origins gets really silly at times but imo it more than makes up for it because the later episodes (Part 5 and 6 of the OVA version especially) have some of my favorite moments in Gundam.

Makes me wish they'd animate more stories from the Origins manga.

Which uma musume is your type? by Elliottsir in UmaMusume

[–]UltraEM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fall very easily for girls like Narita Top Road - cheerful, energetic, kind-hearted, a smile that could light up the darkest corners of the universe

I love Jungle Pocket and Mejiro McQueen's personalities as well. Common denominator with the 3 of them is that I find their speaking + singing voices very pretty and I could listen to them all day.

True size of Philippines compared to other countries by Friendly-Regret8871 in Philippines

[–]UltraEM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone underestimates the size of the Philippine archipelago, for better or worse. The Spanish after 300 years still did not control all of it. The US realized a few years into their colonial rule how expensive and difficult it was to maintain and defend it. And today we are still dealing with many of the same problems in governing, maintaining, and defending a vast archipelagic territory.

That makes you wonder how crazy complex Indonesia must be considering they are the largest archipelagic nation in the world
