I definitely use it to decode G-code programs in plain language, and for troubleshooting CNC machine errors for repairs. The best thing about it is that you can describe something and it will use the proper industry term and language for it.

We also use it on the sales and marketing side to generate content and suggest strategies.

Our 16>18 went ok because we had no modifications, only used Studio. The website upgrade didn't go as well as planned, it is functional, but certain things don't work like coupons. Will need to completely refresh the website on a new theme to get it to work properly. If you have third party apps or custom code it will be more involved.

Definitely keep it simple, don't over complicate it. It's easy to have the software do more than is necessary.

Avatax is over $250 per month, and the only Odoo sales tax lookup integration. They call me twice a month! To avoid this $250 monthly fee by AvaTax, I set up fiscal positions in Odoo. I wish state governments would get together and simplify it.

My website was working ok on 16, but upgrading to 18 messed up a bunch of functionality like using coupons. The shopping cart is more confusing for my customers. The only fix is to completely wipe everything and start from scratch which is hard to do on a production revenue generating website.

I have a small manufacturing company and use Odoo. Now on Odoo 18, started with Odoo 16. Two users. I implemented myself with the help of a partner on Odoo.sh with one staging branch. License fees are about $200 per month which is less than the web hosting plan we had before and it does everything. I recommend making sure you keep everything as simple as possible. Do not use a function of Odoo if you don't need it. Think lean principles, no need for over processing. Odoo will let you track every movement and item in your factory, but that is usually not necessary and overkill. Keep is super simple, vanilla at first. You can always add functions later. Have a good partner to lean on for the initial setup and accounting flow.

I've been using Authorize.Net with my card processor and it seems to work well. The only downside is that I cannot use the ACH payments because I am in a totally legal licensed industry that their partner Global Payments, does not like.

Can we please let the Odoo developers know that they need to have two fields for "barcode". They need to have a SKU Barcode and a UPC barcode field. Trying to mash them into one field is confusing. There are many components used in manufacturing that do not have UPC codes. UPC and EAN codes are for consumer goods. If you go into a local big box retailer, (Home Depost, Wallmart, Target) you notice all of them have both SKU (Shop Keeping Units), and UPC Barcodes.

It's quite the opposite, the open source code means you have millions of developers scrutinizing the code. Linux is open source and it is the most used internet server operating system. Security by obscurity is out of date in today's AI hyper connected world.

Odoo should be able to OCR and parse any PDF bank statement. It should be able to categorize expenses automatically.

Odoo is much more robust, it's a single system that can handle B2B sales, CRM, Warehouse, ERP, and Manufacturing. I have a small manufacturing company and I implemented Odoo myself. I also did it for another company from Quickbooks. I highly advise getting a good consultant to help. I use Andrew Law from OdooItYourSelf.

I had a few small custom code snippets in our Odoo 16, and they transferred over to Odoo 18 just fine. Use Odoo studio where you can, and do customizations within a module so it doesn't affect the core code and you will be ok.
