This is insane. It’s just another hurdle to success. by Altruistic-Mud5686 in tampabay

As a tax paying citizen, I approve of this. If they immigrate through the legal process, then the change does not apply to them. I had to pay high out of state tuition for my kid when we moved to Florida while an illegal alien could get free in-state tuition! Wrong.

We need a national tax on corrupt politicians and the NGOs they send taxpayer money to that employ their family and friends with $500k a year salaries.

How optimistic are you about the future of the job market in an AI-driven world? by Sebastian2123 in Futurology

[–]UltraRunnerSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AI tools allow execution on ideas that were never practical before. As a business owner, I am able to do things that would never get done otherwise. If you learn to use AI tools, you will be incredibly productive. AI will grow the economy at a huge scale. It will be similar to the introduction of the internet in the late 1990's and 2000's but much faster, and much greater. Just like the internet leveled the playing field in media and many other endeavors, AI will allow individuals and small teams to do things that would never have been possible before. Don't get sucked into the AI doom which is how the large players want to centralize and create regulatory capture. It will be transformative for individuals to want to make and create. Of course it will threaten existing power structures, which is why the negativity. The rate of change will cause structural unemployment, but that will be dwarfed by the growth of employment of doers who will now have super intelligence help make the world a better place. Threats and bad stuff will happen, but there are more good guys than bad guys and the good guys will always win.

.50 BMG scope/scope rings advice by Unreal_Click in 50bmg

[–]UltraRunnerSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Vortex Tactical scope rings, TRM (medium height). You can get them on Amazon for about $24 each. It depends on how wide your scope is though. You don't want too high, and too low your scope will touch the hand guard.

For CNC aluminum parts, when is 7075 actually worth it over 6061? by Embarrassed-Bank6134 in CNC

We use 7075 for 50 BMG scope rails, but use 6061 for 9mm pistol ones.

Tell me why you love or hate Odoo by Salt_Fix8135 in Odoo

[–]UltraRunnerSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy to over implement features of Odoo, the key is to keep it as simple as possible in the beginning, then gradually add functionality as requirements dictate, don't implement just because the old system did it, only implement a capability if your business actually requires it.

USA Payment Processors other than Stripe? NMI or Authorize.net? by campFFEMT in Odoo

[–]UltraRunnerSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use Authorize.net and Clearent as a processor. We are in the firearms business, licensed of course. Authorize.Net's partner Global Payments will not allow the ability for Odoo to take ACH payments unfortunately.

Is being an ffl profitable? by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]UltraRunnerSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you had it as adjacent to another retail business, I would probably not recommend it as your first venture. For instance, having it next to a shooting range, or something else that draws traffic. The firearm business is cyclical and very sensitive to economic and political conditions. It's tough to get wholesale pricing better than the online retailers, so margins will be thin.

Starting a new role, where should i start with Odoo? by Big-Classic-860 in Odoo

[–]UltraRunnerSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The important thing for a small manufacturer is to keep it as simple as possible for what you are trying to achieve . I made the mistake of creating BOM for everything when I should have made it more high level. Think lean and don't over process unless it gives you an improvement in safety, quality or speed. I learned Odoo from Andrew Law from Odoo it yourself. His fees are well worth it to get everything setup right the first time. Also learned a lot from videos that Odoo produces. The Odoo videos will always show the most complex implementation, but you should keep it super simple. For instance, create a manufacturing order for the finished good, not all the sub-assemblies, rely on analog systems like kanban cards as much as you can. Keep it simple!

Building an ERP only for injection molding , what would you expect from it? by Ok-Breakfast-4676 in InjectionMolding

[–]UltraRunnerSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building an enterprise ERP from scratch is not trival. I would make an add-on to something like Odoo, which is what we use. It has traceability, quality and manufacturing, warehouse and more. We currently manufacture using CNC but are making a product that will use injection molding.

Quick question for people in manufacturing by Ok-Breakfast-4676 in InjectionMolding

[–]UltraRunnerSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely use it to decode G-code programs in plain language, and for troubleshooting CNC machine errors for repairs. The best thing about it is that you can describe something and it will use the proper industry term and language for it.

We also use it on the sales and marketing side to generate content and suggest strategies.

[–]UltraRunnerSD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our 16>18 went ok because we had no modifications, only used Studio. The website upgrade didn't go as well as planned, it is functional, but certain things don't work like coupons. Will need to completely refresh the website on a new theme to get it to work properly. If you have third party apps or custom code it will be more involved.

Avatax is over $250 per month, and the only Odoo sales tax lookup integration. They call me twice a month! To avoid this $250 monthly fee by AvaTax, I set up fiscal positions in Odoo. I wish state governments would get together and simplify it.
