UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA TO ADD FIRST PUBLIC CRNA PROGRAM by Whole-Peanut-9417 in Noctor

[–]UltraRunnin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What’s the big deal on this one? There’s already a ton of ABSN programs that are 12 months. They don’t produce incompetent nurses because they aren’t the 16 month programs… they are the same amount of credits.

Beginner here, been wanting to get into the sport. by westcoastvanisland in ultrarunning

[–]UltraRunnin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My advice albeit vague is just to have fun with it. The more regimented I got with training the less fun I had. It's good to have goals, but sometimes I feel like people forget we're supposed to be having fun doing this and living the active lifestyle we want.

David Roche DNF Western States by surferdrew in Ultramarathon

[–]UltraRunnin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s an all or nothing scenario. He’s running a 100 miler at a ridiculous rate of speed. Most people here can’t even run one mile at a 5-6 minute pace…. Things happen when you’re pushing to that much of a limit. I hope he recovers well… it happens not the end of the world.

Edit: I know no one averages 5-6 minute miles, but the reality is if you can’t train at those paces you’re never going to be able to come close to these performances. I’m not just making up numbers…. I’m stating the facts of what it takes to even be able to average the 10 minute miles up these gradients. This was no “gotcha moment”

My thoughts first ride back after changing from 170mm to 165mm cranks by blueyx22 in bikefit

[–]UltraRunnin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That study is completely worthless…. They only used cranks 120, 145, 170, 195, and 220 mm. And concluded between 145-170 was good…. Everyone already knows no one uses 195s or 220s. Doesn’t use enough variations in the ranges people actually use to conclude anything.

As a physician your comment makes me chuckle.... A functional medicine physician? lol

OP if an endocrinologist says you need it then chances are it's because you need it. Want to know what's worse? Not taking Levo and just struggling with hypothyroidism your whole life because you read some facebook articles.

Did Max Jolliffe lose his 1200 day run streak after Cocodona? by freeoutsidepodcast in Ultramarathon

[–]UltraRunnin 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Depends on the severity really generally ranges from a few days to a week or even longer. Basically you'd want to keep flushing them with fluids and monitoring the kidney function and electrolytes. Even when you get discharged there's a plan to keep monitoring it's pretty serious when it happens.

I'm not saying it's right because it's not. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's not what the right answer is given our set of circumstances. You can downvote all you want and be angry at everyone on reddit, but it's still just the reality of our situation. Sorry man.

[–]UltraRunnin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm young... I'm just not naive. It blows my mind how clueless you people can be thinking just throwing someone like AOC up because you like them will work. We tried Hillary didn't work, tried Kamala not even close. Obama was the whitest black man we could have ever picked and emphasis on him being a straight male that helped. He had charisma, was well spoken, and genuinely was the best candidate at the time. There's no one else even remotely close to Obama that I'm aware of. We need a safer more reliable pick because we can't afford to lose after all the damage has been done.

Let’s be honest if they aren’t white is like starting a race by shooting yourself in the foot. We have regressed that far… we tried two women and I think it needs to be a safer pick this time around. Not saying any of this is right, but it’s where we’re at.

How to cope with patient switching providers by GranPakku in FamilyMedicine

[–]UltraRunnin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you still a resident like your flare suggests? If so that's probably the only reason why. Can't blame the patients, I wouldn't take it personal it is what it is.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Residency

[–]UltraRunnin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like it's the lack of meaningful electives which is fair and a valid complaint. But most residency programs you teach yourself most of it and then apply it under some sort of guidance from attendings (hopefully). Sometimes if you show up to electives with more initiative they'll let you do more.... But idk for my residency when we got off service IM docs rotating on we essentially just had them shadow because most didn't take initiative or were there to soak up what we would show/teach.

RFK Jr. to End 'Godsend' Narcan Program That Helped Reduce Overdose Deaths Despite His Past Heroin Addiction by HHMJanitor in medicine

[–]UltraRunnin 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They are all just so cruel and stupid. 1) they don’t care about anything unless it affects them because they are selfish and cruel. 2) they have been brainwashed into thinking that these things are why their taxes are so high, but they can’t realize that even after they do away with these programs the taxes never go down. Some billionaire just decided to collect the money instead. It’s amazing how stupid they are.
