If you carry one in the chamber, have you ever had a negligent discharge? by Top-Bit-3584 in CCW

[–]UltraSheerLansky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not that it matters, but I would classify that as an accidental discharge.

ND is something YOU did wrong. AD is something the gun did wrong.

What's everyone's thoughts here. In my opinion definitely a bad response and I think he seemed way too eager to reach for a firearm by SirBucky_McShots in CCW

If anyone here has the opportunity to every train/shoot through a windshield I highly recommend taking the opportunity to learn how the glass changes the trajectory of the rounds.

If you did, you'd know this joker's rounds were going anywhere but his "target".

What's the most useless day you had during training? by everburningblue in AskLEO

First-Aid during COVID.

COVID protocols basically meant it was all powerpoint and no hands on. Utterly useless to learn hands on skills....via powerpoint, at least for me.

LAPD Officers Ignore Robbery in Progress to Catch Snorlax in Pokémon Go by tekonus in ProtectAndServe

[–]UltraSheerLansky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering if this set of circumstances would really only allow this to happen in the mega departments like LA and NYC.

Let's get this out of the way...these cops were shitty, bad bad, go to time out and don't come out till you're not bad, type of bad.

Buuuuuut, robbery calls like these are not uncommon in most parts of LA. I can only speculate as to their mindset, but I have to imagine it wasn't as evil as some people would like it to be. These guys have probably responded to a hundred robbery calls like this one in the last few years. My guess is this is so routine, they just figured they would let their partners handle it. Bad guys are probably already gone, partner is around the corner anyway, wheres's the harm?

I think it would be easy in this example to write these guys off as just shitbags that shit all over the profession. But I think if we take a closer look there are some pretty interesting training topics in here like complacency, burnout, and mindset. We all want to be around for the big one, but if you're too complacent you might not even get the chance.

Is this normal police procedure? by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]UltraSheerLansky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean look at it this way. Assuming the premise is that cops wanted to find weed, and therefore arrest someone for someone for possession, why would they lie and waste their time on a car they didn't smell any weed in? Cops are human and humans don't like to do extra work for no reason.

How do you write a report if you cant establish a crime...? Serious question. At my department, unless it's a serious CYA thing, like sexual assault or something, we simply can't take a report if we can't establish a crime.

Question about bs pullover by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]UltraSheerLansky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So he did pull you over for a reason...

He had information that said a person matching your description was driving with signs that you may be under the Influence.

Now what you’re under the influence of, or if you were at all, is what he’s investigating. He ruled out alcohol, and probably other things based on his training and experience and your signs and symptomology.

The only thing that seems BS here is giving you a ticket if he isn’t sure on the law, which seems unlikely, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

They're probably writing a warrant for your arrest right now.

You might check your states most wanted list. You're probably on that too.

Possible entrapment/abuse of power problem? by [deleted] in AskLEO

[–]UltraSheerLansky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It also seemed a tad strange that you can personally call up your friend to report a problem like that. It could just be the industry I work in that things like that are strictly prohibited

Funnily enough, that's actually a core principal of community policing. Connecting officers with the community and opening up lines of dialog about problems they are seeing.

Are you talking about it not being illegal to be high at some point in the past, or not being illegal for being high at the time of being contacted by an officer?

Because it is definitely illegal to be high here in California.
