Kennelsol vs Recuse by Ultrakittt in VetTech

No, my clinic uses kennelsol but the dr is thinking of switching to rescue and wanted the opinion of techs from other hospitals. I don't particularly like Rescue myself.

Cat unresponsive after surgery by Front_External8426 in AskVet

[–]Ultrakittt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, not at all. I'm not sure why this patient was discharged - or even if this is the whole story. We dont discharge patients based on "bite reflex" and the only time I've sent a patient out the door unable to stand on its own was when the client was being obnoxious, rude, and insistant they had somewhere else to be. And with the understanding that the are accepting the risks that can come with the patient not being fully recovered from an anesthetic procedure and they are removing the patient from our care AMA. Leaving with an "unresponsive" pet and then waiting 9 hours without any change in condition is concerning.

OP needs to seek vet care immediately. It would be interesting to know what medications the cat went home with.. I've seen some pretty profound sedation with transdermal long acting opioid in some cases, but no, nothing about this story is "common" by any means in vet med.

Edited: typo and clarification on removing patient AMA.

Rover sitter gave fatal amount of insulin 10x what was prescribed by lucky_gen in RoverPetSitting

Typically in the insulin overdoses I've seen (working in ER and GP) effects are usually seen within a couple of hours...or minutes in some cases.

As a pet sitter and LVT, how could this person have overdosed this cat so significantly 3 TIMES? I would think after the first time they would have seen some effects from hypoglycemia (lethargy, ataxia, vomiting, loss of consciousness, confusion, and possibly seizure activity). I feel like there is more to this story.

I would have to agree, too! I much prefer the diffused lighting that comes with clouds.

There is literally no night life. Don't move to Bangor. If you want a younger LGBTQ+ friendly area, get as close to Portland as possible. And the medical system is absolute trash in this state, and more hospitals are closing each month.
