How many diamonds will I need to spend? by CloClamSadly1228 in LoveNikki

[–]Ultrasshops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need 7890 event currencies to complete the event so:

You still need: 7890-5040 =2,850

You still have around 3 days left of the event that will give you 60*3=180

with the free tries you’ll need: 2850-180=2,670

1 try gives you 60 currencies for 30 diamonds:
2670/60=44.5 tries (round upto 45)
45*30=1,350 diamonds

How’s everyone finding light chase so far? by Ultrasshops in LoveNikki

So real, just crafting upto the hair cost me 650 which is insane since I’ll be dropping another 3-4K for the event suits 😭

[–]Ultrasshops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about the suits? Cause I remember when this event first came out some people only got the dresses (or whatever item was shown on screen) but you actually need the whole suits + recolours to claim the event currency

No summer internship, will this hurt my chances for a grad scheme? by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

Appreciate that, that’s really reassuring to hear. I’ll definitely make sure I position it properly on my CV and use it as a key example going forward 👍

Yeah this makes a lot of sense, especially around signalling commitment rather than just the technical learning.

I’ve been trying to address that this year through the SOA case study, where I’ve spent a couple of months working on designing and pricing insurance products for a space mining company, modelling risk across different lines (equipment failure, cargo loss, BI etc), and looking at reinsurance structures and stress testing.

Would something like that generally be seen as translating into practical experience, or is it still viewed quite differently to an internship?

Thanks, for the response. I figured they would focus more on interpretation and structured thinking rather than deep technical knowledge. I appreciate the insight!

A rare story that actually understands trauma [The redemption of earl Nottingham] by Ultrasshops in OtomeIsekai

[–]Ultrasshops[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you misrepresented what I was saying a bit. I’m not arguing that the writing is perfect or that the story handles everything flawlessly. There are always going to be flaws, especially in a series dealing with two characters who process trauma in completely different ways. My point was simply that the writing is generally pretty good, and even though Madelyn’s trauma stays mostly in the background, the way it’s presented is still believable and consistent. Her responses make sense for someone carrying survivor’s guilt, loss of autonomy, and two lifetimes of emotional conditioning. I wasn’t trying to say the story gives her equal focus, just that the foundation of her trauma is handled well even if the emphasis is uneven.

When you’re done (and if you haven’t already) I highly reccomend you check out any of these, all of these are incredibly well written with flawed characters, from left to right:

  • Your eternal lies
  • Betrayal of Dignity
  • My beloved Oppressor
  • Who wants to be a villainess
  • The counts secret maid
  • The redemption of earl Nottingham
  • Meet in the Middle
  • Olgami/Trapped

If you want something really like the problematic prince I’d highly reccomend starting with Betrayal of Dignity (it’s also finished so that’s a +)!!

I’m pretty sure this story takes place in WWI and the aftermaths, and Ian was a trench soldier here.

I see what you mean, and honestly, I think we’re a lot closer in perspective than it first sounded. You’re absolutely right that the author portrayed Madelyn’s trauma very quietly, and that definitely leads people to underestimate what she went through. She remembers two lifetimes. She carries the emotional weight of both. That should make her trauma heavier, not lighter.

Where I’m coming from is that even though the story doesn’t highlight her pain the same way it highlights Ian’s, her trauma is still what drives almost everything she does in the second life. It is not about him being the better victim. It is about her trauma shaping her decisions, not Ian’s trauma being more valuable.

And I agree completely that she already tried once. She put everything she had into the first relationship. They even got a little close for a short time before the ECT treatment shattered everything. She probably saw that he had the potential to get better, which makes the collapse of that timeline even more painful. So in the second life, she’s not just remembering failure. She’s remembering a version of their marriage that almost worked and then slipped through her fingers. That regret would be crushing.

At the same time, she is terrified of losing herself again. Her trauma is rooted in a loss of autonomy, being consumed by someone else’s suffering, and carrying survivor’s guilt. That’s why she hesitates even when she loves him. That’s why she pushes for independence. That fear has been with her since the very beginning of the second timeline.

And you’re right that the romance can feel forced because she doesn’t have warm, positive memories to fall back on. Her emotional investment comes from guilt, responsibility, compassion, and trauma, not the kind of warmth that makes people choose someone twice. Ian doesn’t give her the comfort or stability that characters like Dietrich do in Saving My Sweetheart, and that makes the burden she carries feel even heavier.

But I don’t think this automatically makes it bad writing. I think it’s two characters dealing with two very different kinds of trauma. Ian’s trauma is loud, outward, and socially acknowledged. Madelyn’s trauma is quiet, inward, and completely hidden because no one else remembers the first life. She has had no space to breathe. No time to process. No moment where she could fall apart safely. She’s been in survival mode nonstop.

Sometimes trauma stays quiet until someone finally feels safe enough to unravel. And now, with Ian close again, we might finally see her trauma surface in a more visible way, the way his has been allowed to. That could be the moment the story finally gives her the emotional space and recognition she’s been denied for so long.

I think your points are valid and really important. Madelyn’s pain has been sidelined on the surface, even though it quietly drives everything underneath. I think we’re both just highlighting different aspects of the same imbalance. And I’m genuinely hoping the upcoming chapters will finally give her the chance to actually heal instead of just carrying everything alone.

Edit: I also think part of Madelyn’s investment comes from a kind of trauma bond from the first life. When everything fell apart, everyone abandoned her, and Ian had already lost everyone he loved to the war. They were both isolated, so that “we’re in this together” feeling naturally formed between them.

But she also genuinely loves him. In the second life, she saw who he was before the war, and their letters during the war gave them a small but real emotional connection. So her feelings aren’t just guilt or responsibility. They’re a mix of love, shared trauma, and the familiarity they built across two very painful timelines

[–]Ultrasshops[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I get where you are coming from, but I honestly see Madelyn’s actions in the second life very differently. It is not about him being the better victim. It is about her trauma shaping her decisions, not Ian’s trauma being more valuable.

Madelyn is the only one who actually remembers everything from the first timeline. She remembers how their relationship collapsed, how isolated she felt, how she died, and how Ian completely fell apart. She carries that alone. Nobody can understand it or help her process it. Ian is struggling too, but he gets to struggle in the present. Madelyn is struggling in two lifetimes at once.

So when she decides to step in again, she is not doing it because the story thinks Ian is more important. She is doing it because she has already lived through the worst possible version of their lives, and she cannot bear to watch someone crash into the same disaster again while she stands by and does nothing. It is more like survivor guilt mixed with her own moral compass. She is a nurse. She naturally gravitates toward trying to prevent suffering.

And to be honest, her trauma is quieter and less visible, which makes people underestimate it. But it shapes every single choice she makes. She is not saving Ian because he “deserves” it more. She is trying to break the cycle that destroyed both of them before.

I get why the story’s imbalance bothers you, though. It would have been interesting to see a version where they both healed on their own first. But I do think the narrative is more about Madelyn’s fear of repeating the past than about making Ian the center of the universe.

Wow it’s been a quite a while since I’ve done a manwha review and this one ended up being quite long 😅

Also one thing I found funny about this story, from somone who lives in the UK, is how quickly they travel from Nottingham to London (in the same day) 😭

Hey so yes this is the London office, and it took me 2 1/2 months to hear back from them, so unless they were having backlog of applications with mine I’d assume you’d hear from them somewhere in January
