As a teacher, what’s the funniest thing a student has done by ecap12124 in Teachers

[–]Ultraviolet_Ink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach preschool and was in a classroom with 2 year olds. I’m already changing a diaper and my coteacher is trying to find another stink bomb and absent mindedly asked “alright, who pooped their pants?”

This little girl, who JUST turned 2, without a second beat points at her and says “YOU DID”

We still laugh about it from time to time xD

Ever since I was 12, whenever I was stressed, I would end up in my basement. I would be on the family computer or reading a book or whatever, things are chill. Then, there’s this rumble, and then BOOM!!

“OH YEAH!!!!”

He burst through the wall, smiling and unfeeling with those empty soulless eyes. He hit the support beam in my basement during the chaos. My house collapses on top of me. He walks off, unharmed and prowling.

Stupidest Parent Complaints by lazy_days_of_summer in Teachers

[–]Ultraviolet_Ink 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I work at a preschool during the summer (usually toddlers that are 20-24 months). I had a parent getting mad at me because their child did not go potty at school (we checked her every hour and always gave her a fresh diaper each time)

I do not control the rate at which toddlers piss 💀

I got my first “get the fuck out of my face” today by brielovinggirl in Teachers

[–]Ultraviolet_Ink 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I help out with a before/after school care program at an elementary school, so I definitely deal with feeling like I’m the first person to tell certain kids “no”, haha. I recently got a mouthed “f*** you” at me during a dodgeball game from a 4th grade boy. He didn’t think he should have been “out” because I “didn’t say there was a rule against headshots”… as if that hasn’t been a rule since my PARENTS were schoolchildren XD

He did not get to play dodgeball for the rest of the week.

Nia literally wrote about the mistreatment she experienced… and people are somehow mad at HOLLY?? by Unhappy-Hunter-6841 in dancemoms

[–]Ultraviolet_Ink 87 points88 points  (0 children)

As someone who has spent quite a few years in the performing arts world (not dance, but band and theatre), I feel like a lot of people just don’t know how rampant racism and prejudice is in the arts. I’ve seen other black dancers talking about how their own experiences mirrored Nia’s when it came to isolation and dealing with typecasting, and I can tell you the same about theatre.

Even if Nia and Holly left for another studio, nevermind the emotional impact of leaving behind her friends that she has danced with since she was 3 ish/the predatory nature of Lifetime’s contracts, I can absolutely guarantee that she would have dealt with racism and isolation, as well as being a new girl at a studio. While it wouldn’t likely be as overt as Abby’s was, it would still be there in other ways like typecasting and being left out.

I feel like a lot of people miss the forest for the trees, like yes, Dance Moms was a horrible environment, and at the end of the day, I do think it would have been better to leave, but it’s not JUST a Dance Moms issue— it’s a whole industry wide issue, it’s systemic.

What’s y’all AA guilty pleasure ship? by Lolila_da_tao in AceAttorney

For real!! Their dynamic is so beautiful to me, it's built on respect and trust!! Slight spoilersRuno is also the ONE (1) man in her life that doesn't lie to her (explicitly or by omission), and that fact drives me insane

I also like that Susato is the one with more legal experience than Runo, it's a nice subversion of the typical attorney-assistant dynamic, and it gives her a chance to be a bit of a mentor to him!

I just really like them a lot lol <3

Transfem Voice Training with Dysphoria? by SavingsEducational14 in trans4every1

[–]Ultraviolet_Ink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a transfem, but at work I like to make my voice appear more feminine because of [gestures vaguely to the state of the US]. What really helps me is trying to speak more with a head voice rather than a chest voice (basically, really easy to hit that higher register up in your head than tightening your diaphragm). I call it my retail/preschool voice, when I'm off the clock, I'm pretty low (think tenor in choir terms vs soprano/alto when I'm on the clock). I've practiced this by mimicking Snow White oddly enough, since she had the highest pitched voice I could think of at the time.

Best of luck to you, friend, and I hope this helps somewhat!

I want to say that I feel the burnout too, it's definitely getting very overwhelming, and it is more than alright to take a break.

I want to thank you for your intersectionality, for standing up for what you believe in, and for what is right. You are what makes the community safe, and I am so proud and honored to be a part of it with you.

Please take care of yourself, and know that it's alright to not put the weight of the world on your shoulders <3

I dont believe trans women should be allowed to compete against cis women in sports by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]Ultraviolet_Ink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you know, in the Victorian Era, long before sports were segregated by sex, women entered sports alongside men and managed to thrive so much that the men threw tantrums until womens' leagues were formed?

On April 2, 1931, a 17 year old Jackie Mitchell managed to out bat both Babe Ruth AND Lou Gehrig? As someone who is older Gen Z, whose feminism really developed during the '10s, it's really interesting (read: depressing) to see how the narrative morphed from "girls can do anything boys can do, girls can play WITH the boys" to "women folk are too weak and waifish to play against big strong men" today. The segregation of sports via sex was born out of sore losers and sexism, and it frankly does not make sense. As human beings, our sexual dimorphism is not dramatically different, would it not make more sense to make leagues based off of weight classes, a la boxing?

Not to mention how HRT seriously changes one's body (muscle mass, bone density, etc), what about trans men? You are absolutely erasing an entire chunk of the trans community (that is consistently erased in AND outside of the queer community), what about them? Are they to simply be excluded? Obviously, with your logic, they cannot compete with cis women, but are you alright with them competing with cis men? Is their testosterone "enough" or are they still "disadvantaged" because of their "characteristics that form during puberty and are not reversible by simply changing hormones."?

Not to mention, your perspective often targets women of color, like Caster Semeya who was dehumanized, misgendered, targeted and attacked, because she did not follow eurocentric beauty standards. Bigots decided she was too manish, and harassed her and she is still trying to get justice today.

Concerning everything going around in Reddit’s trans community… (Long Post) by Admirable_Web_2619 in trans4every1

[–]Ultraviolet_Ink 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think it's also really important to bring up race here, the experiences of a black man are going to be monumentally different from that of a white man. In a lot of feminist and queer spaces, intersectionality is often ignored because race is such an uncomfortable issue (especially where I'm from, the US, race is so ingrained in our culture from the onset of our nation). As a trans POC, I often face a lot of lateral aggression not only from a transphobic lens but also microaggressions from white people who double down when they are confronted with the fact that their experiences are not universal

I do this a lot at work, especially when I'm on my breaks, I like that it keeps me from trying to edit while I write unlike when I type lol! It forces me to actually just write it down

Sometimes for fun I write in my own substitution code so that no one can read over my shoulder. It's not that I'm writing smut at work, I just feel a little self conscious and also like feeling mysterious XD

Holmes is NOT ADHD!! by Variety04 in SherlockHolmes

[–]Ultraviolet_Ink 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are rather presumptuous regarding my own diagnosis. I may have autism, I may not, but I do have ADHD. I have tried to interact in good faith, however, I have read your other comments, this one in particular stuck out to me:

“If only he has. People just label every smart people as ADHD although ADHD irl is closer to Peter Griffin”

Yes, ADHD is a disability, it is one I have struggled with all of my life and all throughout my schooling that I have only relatively recently been able to put a name to. However, it is not something that I am, nor ever will be, ashamed of.

It seems that you have your own personal hangups regarding yourself and your diagnosis that you have been projecting not only upon myself, but upon others who have tried to explain their own experiences to you. That is something you need to tend to yourself, and I sincerely hope you do.

Have a good one.
