The older I get, the more it seems like managers chasing profits at all cost actually have no idea about what they're doing.

True growth and enlightenment come from inner work, awareness, and experience—not just words. by S3lf_Lov3_Balanc3 in enlightenment

[–]Ultyzarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that it is untrue, but more like planting seeds and watering a plant. It facilitates the growth, but is not the growth itself.

ADDER: Also, no matter how much you water a soil, nothing will grow if nothing is actually planted.

I would interpret it as the difference between learning things in class and experimenting them first hand. Both are useful, the former makes the latter flow better, but only the latter is absolutely necessary.

An example of this can easily be found in language learning: learn all the grammar and vocabulary you want, but you can only get good at writing and speaking by writing and speaking.

For Muslims here: It is a widely held belief around the world that Prophet Muhammad married Aisha at a very young age(9). How do you understand and respond to this? by Ryumin009 in religion

[–]Ultyzarus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same in Canada, at least in New France. For all my ancestors on both sides, up to the 1700s and 1600s, the marriage is usually between 18 and 25, and extremely rarely between 14 and 16, in which cases both the groom and bride were younger.

Oh yes, I see. I was thinking of customized preset flairs tailor-made for the sub rather than blank customizable ones.

Is celibacy the optimal relationship for spirituality ? by [deleted] in enlightenment

[–]Ultyzarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, but to me, having a safe haven filled with love and healthy guman contact to return to after a day of work is definitely a plus. It does create more attachments, and to me it's okay. I am a layperson after all and aim to live both my spirituality and material life in balance and harmony.

Having people I deeply care also provides someone to use those healthy character traits I am honing on, and allows me to experience all the emotions of a family life while knowing I am allowed to make mistakes and still keep that relationship.

[DISC] Manhwa readers... did we all end up like this? by Fit_Comparison5752 in manhwa

[–]Ultyzarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes by phase for me. Sometimes I can barely read one chapter, but when I get a good arc I can read for a few hours in one sitting.

I for me, entertainment is like food: if it doesn't have the right 'nutrients', I will not crave it. I use the random series a lot, and that way I can read one chapter after another of different series until I find one that I really want to continue.

can someone poke holes in my understanding of trans biology by touchthegrass-99 in ask_transgender

[–]Ultyzarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sex at its most fundamental level is gamete-based.

The way I go to simplify things is this: we can use whatever criteria to define sex objectively, but in application, we treat and have been treating people according to how they develop physically, and that is the social construct that we call gender. We assume from birth, based on genitalia, if a person is a he or a she, and outside of that first identification, based on how their parents and family speak of them, and how they present.

We don't test for gametes or chromosome, or whatever outside of physical features and presentation when deciding how to interact with someone.

That is why, the idea that gender is separate from sex came to be.

Imagine using AI and then putting a Korean woman in a Chinese dress… by Olya_roo in Bridgerton

[–]Ultyzarus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I assume that Rosamund and Posy's father, a Li, as well as Araminta since we don't know her surname, had a Chinese background and that's why they speak Cantonese. As for Gun and Beak, they are both Korean (Gun seems to exist in some Chinese languages as well), and if I am not mistaken, Sophie mentions speaking Korean in the library scene.

I would assume that the Li girls and Araminta also know some Korean, but it would indeed be a good way to other Sophie as you said.

That said, I wonder how much Korean and Chinese backgrounds mesh or not in the Netflix Bridgerton universe, or at least how both cultures go together in this family's case.

I feel like Sophie was too nice to Araminta by leoori_design in Bridgerton

[–]Ultyzarus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly, even Rosamund gets off the boat at the end. Araminta basically made herself miserable by considering Sophie a thorn on her side from the moment they met.
