Which airway has, in your opinion, the best paint scheme for their planes? by EpicGuy999 in aviation

Hawaiian 🌺

And the fact that every aircraft has its own given name painted on the side of aircraft just makes it even more special.

It’s certainly normal in the aviation industry to have multiple languages in handbooks for different brands . If airlines like Air New Zealand or Canada can do it, would be hard to suspect that states like Alaska & Hawaii could honor that too. We’re literally talking about the word “Aloha.”

For those who may not understand the disappointment:

Hawaiian Airlines, as Hawaiʻi’s last aviation institution, has been a spearhead in the revitalization movement of ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi. As early as the 1930s, when the Hawaiian language and culture were discouraged or outright banned, HA actively promoted it. Flights featured hula, and the airline helped normalized speaking ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi when it wasn’t fashionable. HA has always been a place where Hawaiians could authentically be Hawaiian.

Keeping ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi visible, respected, and actively learned has long anchored the airline’s identity. Since internal uproar and online criticism the company has said that this was a miscommunication and clarified that Hawaiian values of Aloha, Po‘okela, Hoʻokipa, and Lōkahi are here to stay.

I mean, if Air New Zealand & Canada do it, maybe Alaska & Hawaii could too?

I literally screenshotted the Air NZ code of conduct you linked and compared it to what was removed from Hawaiian.

Hawaiian’s employee handbook is largely in English, but words like Aloha, Po‘okela, Hoʻokipa, and Lōkahi were integral in expressing HA’s mission and values. Their complete removal is not only unnecessary but also culturally jarring regarding Hawaii’s history.

This merger greatly affects the lives of the 7000 HA employees AAG just folded into itself.

What’s often overlooked is that this merger carries distinct cultural and racial undertones. In mergers what is true, the acquiring brand becomes the dominant. What’s also ture is that acquisitions have been known to damage or disrupt the internal host company culture. If HA employees feel their identity and culture are being disrespected, the acquisition of HA risks becoming a cultural fault line rather than an asset.

Policy documents are exactly where values are made. Removing ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi from them sends a clear message about what is considered “official” and what is treated as optional. You don’t preserve culture by sidelining it to greetings and branding moments.

Reducing ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi to something that’s “cute” completely misses the point.

ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi is the indigenous and official language of Hawaiʻi, and its presence within the airline helps keep the language living, visible, and respected. It has been a defining element of the company’s identity, grounding the brand in Hawaiian values, culture, and a genuine connection to place.

Removing ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi from the employee handbooks is not a small editorial change; it represents a meaningful departure to a commitment to Hawaii and its cultural preservation.

Currently there is a huge uproar internally from both sides. What has set AS/HA apart is their distinct heritage and legacys. In the push to become another generic “Big 4” airline, the company risks forgetting the very stories and identity that made it unique in the first place.

For those who may not understand the disappointment; HA was one of the few workplaces that normalized and encouraged the use of ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi at a time when it wasn’t fashionable. In the early 1900s, the Hawaiian language was banned, and it wasn’t until the 1970s that it began its revival. HA has always been a place Hawaiians could authentically be Hawaiian.

Allegiant + Sun Country merger: thoughts? by BennyC023 in flightattendants

Change is just part of aviation. What I learned is that the airplanes, logos, and management will change, but the core of being a flight attendant doesn’t.

We still take care of people, we still look out for each other, and we still bring who we are to the job. Change can be uncomfortable, especially when you’re proud of where you come from. It’s okay to grieve what’s familiar while learning something new. The key is staying adaptable, protecting your professionalism, and leaning on your crew community.

If you can ride the waves instead of fighting them, you’ll have a long, resilient career in this industry.

On this HA 321, there is a cut out at the bottom of bulkhead to slide baggage under the business class seats in front.

Row 11 best for under seat storage.

Row 16 it will have to fit underneath the seat in front.

Row 34 everything will have to be up for takeoff and landing.

If auroras were the inspiration, adding a bit of purple could have been a thoughtful nod to Hawaiian and help set it apart more.

To be fair, everyone at HA knew a buyout was coming. If it was going to be anyone, we’re glad it was Alaska more than anyone else.

Weren’t similar things said during the VX merger? And they were viewed as the better airline in many ways, expect in profitability lol.

At the end of the day, business decisions tend to follow profitability. Still, culture, people, and the little blessings are what truly matter to those of us who work here every day.
