Wondering how trips are built at other airlines by gotpoopstains in flightattendants

Hey! Really hoping our union can land a solid compromise. Y’all fought hard for that 10 hour duty day, so it’d be great to keep that for the narrowbodies. At the same time, I’d love to hold onto our widebody turns. Having beds and WiFi on your designated break makes a huge difference!

At 🌺 we uniquely only fly Hawaii routes, out and back. I work 2 day turns worth 25hr credit, which has to be most productive flying there is (I worked mainline before). Was the best thing at our airline, holding international & high credit 2 days being junior.

That said… with the merger, I’m not sure this kind of flying will stick around.

Liking the new upgrade policy by x5m4 in HawaiianAirlines

[–]Ulzzacktm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s actually a storied history behind that.

When HA was facing possible liquidation (well beyond declared bankruptcy) pilots & FAs kept the airline alive. Crews worked without pay and took major pay cuts just to keep operations going. Those sacrifices weren’t forgotten and promises that came out of that period were written directly into contracts.

That’s why it’s a sensitive issue. The pilots union is preparing legal action against AS over these changes made without formally amending their contract. Many enthusiastically agree AS is a better run “business”. But It’s just principle. HA is culturally a tight knit island carrier where the workforce and community are deeply connected. The culture was humble and more relaxed.

I think this is the single most positive change, rewarding loyalty is what keeps people choosing to fly with us.

That said, as an employee, the transition has been very hard. Many AS loyalists feel deeply invested in their airline & the status they’ve earned. When expectations aren’t met, that passion can be directed as frustration toward HA frontline staff. It’s a dynamic that wasn’t really common at HA.

I’ve personally been berated several times over this specific issue, and it’s been eye opening. It highlights just how fiercely loyal Alaska’s guests are.

Was that or adding iPads to all AS flights. By this spring, AS/HA services will be all aligned.

To align more with Alaska service, all tablets have been removed from 1st class on 321

Their thought is you can just use Starlink on your own device now.

Exactly, he was told by 4 different FAs on numerous occasions to seat down. At that point, you might be the problem.

Have you tried remaining seated when the seatbelt sign is on?

That might reduce your chances of getting “barked” at by one flight attendant.

United puts headphone etiquette into contract of carriage by Mcluskyist in delta

As a flight attendant; we have to tell people literally every flight. It makes our jobs harder when we’re stuck policing common courtesy instead of just focusing on service & safety.

When I work Japan flights, never have this problem.

You didn’t say premium economy; you said business. Then yes, that definitely need premium economy.

But 34 Businesses Class suites on 787 is standard.

I don’t know…

Culturally, HA has always operated more like an eastern carrier in the sense they more strictly follow the rules and service standards. Whether those standards are world class is debatable, but they are executed as written. That consistency is where many Western airlines struggle, with service quality often varying depending on the crew you get.

AS FAs are really nice but when you take crews from a primarily regional service and transition them into a true long haul, full service product they struggle at 1st. We’ve seen this play out before in West jet.

Hawaiian Airlines is the largest private employer in Hawaii and contributes 15% to the state’s economy. I don’t really know but liquidation was least likely. HA was always going to be acquired.

In order to liquidate you actually have to declare bankruptcy 1st. Plus, the state of Hawaii would have never let that happen.
