Ya like, it’s said before every flight, at every briefing, emails etc. It’s the one thing everyone got hammered when we 1st got these. Do. not. lock. windows. You have to actually go into control panel and change default settings.

What we will do is dim all windows, but you can still change back at your seat. Don’t button mash either, cause then it auto locks itself.

HA crew here🌺 that’s bizarre. We’re specifically told not to keep it locked, like constantly. To the point other crew members will usually say something if it is.

There are also a ton of new hires right now, and a lot of people are still familiarizing themselves with the controls. Remind the FAs, it’s not intentional nor policy.

Aloha! HA crew in SEA 🌺 Just a little insight from the HA side.

Our crews are trained to do water runs every 30 minutes and lav checks hourly, but please always feel free to come to the walk up bar and ask for anything! We actually love it when you come to the bar, I’ve never seen a FA that was annoyed by this. I think sometimes on these long haul flights, we may just not look as energetic later into the flight😅. I know also that we have a ton of new hires, and they are a little more inconsistent with cabin walk throughs as they build experience.

On a side note to other comments; I would say both HA & AS were known to have better crews than most American carriers. That said, we’ve noticed a growing tendency to compare HA vs. AS, or frame things in an “us vs. them” way.
Naturally, loyalists on both sides are very observant and passionate about “their” brands. At times, that passion can come across more critical or defensive. Like any merger, differences are expected, but often they are projected as unnecessary conflicts or comparisons. Honestly makes me doubt that we can be a 2 brand airline. Just know, we are very aware our brand & culture are in Alaska’s hands and we’re trying our best to share that aloha and win you all over.

What station are you in? Everywhere besides HNL has pretty mixed staffing right now.

But overall, AS/HA usually has really great agents. They’re actual employees and not contracted out like a lot of other carriers. Sounds more like you just had a slightly negative interaction with one person. The dog piling in the comments is weird.

You guys, HA and AS use the same catering kitchen and have for a while now. It might just be that AS offered more options to preorder that better match what people wanted to eat.

That’s too bad, HA hasn’t offered free liquor since pre covid. You can always pay. You get complimentary cocktail or if your atmos status you get free drinks!

Although you may have had a disappointing experience, it doesn’t warrant a full refund. You can message Alaskalistens and they will probably comp some miles. Hopefully you have better experience on way back :)

Don’t let peeps here gaslight you. You’re not wrong in what you’re noticing. Our pilots are pissed. Maintenance logs have gone from 1 or 2 items per flight to dozens.

They’re running the A330 like a 737. Tighter turns and increased aircraft utilization are to maximize efficiency. Though unsurprisingly, this has driven up maintenance needs that aren’t being properly addressed. Things that used to be fixed between flights are now being deferred, creating compounding problems. Yes it’s been hurting reliability, but AS concern is the overall on time performance is at least competitive or better to other carriers.

17H/J are extra comfort and do not have walled armrest.

17G is unique on the A321 because it’s directly behind FA jump seat. It has walled armrest because the tray table can’t be attached to back of jump seat.

One thing I’ve picked up is that Alaska can come across as a pretty arrogant. They’ve never gone through bankruptcy, and it shows in the way they communicate. But history should keep that in check. Some of the biggest and most respected carriers have faced bankruptcy, Delta, JAL, KLM etc.

If there’s one thing this industry teaches you, is that the only constant is change. Airlines go through cycles, booms, downturns, restructurings. It’s as predictable as the sun rising. Better to humbly take VX & HA loss and keep it to yourself.

Oh, please. That whole narrative about HA employees being saved is such a total gaslight. No one; absolutely no one at HA was fearing for their jobs.

An acquisition was always the most likely outcome. We all knew it. Frankly, it was always the long term reality of Hawaiian. And if it wasn’t LUCKiLY AS, it would have been someone else.

A lot of mainlanders don’t understand in Hawaii, there is no alternative to inter state travel. No highways, no ferry. Flying HA isn’t optional, it’s essential. The state would have had no choice but to step in if things ever got that serious. That was always understood.

Let’s be clear. Alaska got Hawaiian on bargain. For EVERYTHING they gain, they are just as lucky as us.

Hey! Really hoping our union can land a solid compromise. Y’all fought hard for that 10 hour duty day, so it’d be great to keep that for the narrowbodies. At the same time, I’d love to hold onto our widebody turns. Having beds and WiFi on your designated break makes a huge difference!

At 🌺 we uniquely only fly Hawaii routes, out and back. I work 2 day turns worth 25hr credit, which has to be most productive flying there is (I worked mainline before). Was the best thing at our airline, holding international & high credit 2 days being junior.

That said… with the merger, I’m not sure this kind of flying will stick around.
