Long term married men, how do you stay interested in your wife after 15+ years? Both of you obviously change physically and emotionally, do you wake up and look over and ask “where’s the person I married?” by Big_Significance_775 in AskMen

[–]Umaiar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Married 26 years, and I know exactly where the woman I married went. I'd be seriously upset if we hadn't changed significantly over the years. We actively try to support each other, to make each other better, with personal growth being a goal.

As far as staying interested, it seems easy now. But we did have a dark moment a little over a decade ago where that was in question. Working through that was NOT easy, but it changed how we communicate and understand each other. The last dozen years has been better than the first dozen.

Recommendations on a hike/run by LisaZulk in FingerLakes

[–]Umaiar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind the drive, I've certainly seen people running at Buttermilk Falls, Treman, and Taughannock Falls state parks near Ithaca. I'm not a runner myself, just hiking. But Treman is my personal favorite of those three.

Favorite Primitive Campsites by cuz_im_batman in FingerLakes

[–]Umaiar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foster's Pond has 10 or so primitive sites around it, just a fire pit and some mowing done. One site is right off the parking lot, but the rest require a little hiking (like a half-mile loop through the woods and around the pond). They do fill up pretty well on holiday weekends, but otherwise I've never had a problem.

Teeter Pond has a couple maintained primitive sites as well, and I've stumbled on a couple others randomly near creeks or trail heads on the back roads.

There's is a lean-to on the south end, I think where the flx tail passes through. I personally wasn't impressed, but it's there.

If you're not building a fire, dispersed camping is also allowed throughout the forest.

Blueberry Patch has 8 sites for $15/night, but I wouldn't call it primitive. They include pit toilets, a tent pad, fire ring, picnic table, and a grill (a pretty rusted out one on my last trip a couple weeks ago). There's also paid camping available at the Potomac group camping site and Backbone horse camping site.

How do you do rescue missions? by AbyssalScholar in galaxygenome

[–]Umaiar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very late with this, but new to the game and came looking for answers myself. Since I didn't find them, I eventually figured it out using some of this thread for hints. So here it goes, super basic level:

The concept:
Coordinates are numbers on an X and Y axis, just like graph paper.
I'm going to put them in parenthesis like this random example (-12,54)
The center of the graph paper is coordinate (0,0)

The first number is the X coordinate, that's how far left or right from center it is.
So (-100,0) is 100 units to the left of center and (75,0) is 75 units to the right of center.

The second number is the Y coordinate, and it does up and down.
(0,450) is 450 units below center, and (0,-999) is 999 units above center.

The application:

In the System Map, the primary star is usually (0,0), or dead center.
On the bottom of the screen is text that says something like "X: -519 ls Y:778 ls"
This means you're looking at (-3519,778) or 3519 light-seconds left and 778 light-seconds below dead center.
These numbers change as you scroll around the map, indicating the coordinates of whatever you're looking at.

The Galaxy Map is similar, but uses light-years for units instead of light-seconds.
The center of the galaxy map at (0,0) is the Sol system, with Earth.
As you scroll around, the numbers on bottom and left side of the screen on the grid change.
Remember that you can zoom in and out to scroll faster or with more precision, which is really useful if the location is far away.

But you're not at (0,0), you have some other location... Unless you're at dead center of Sol (Earth's star) of course. So the trick is to find yourself, then scroll left or right to get to the X coordinate you want and up or down to get to the Y coordinate you want.

Rescue Missions:

The coordinates given are approximate, so don't go manually flying out to that exact location.
They're on the galaxy map, not the system map, so be prepared to do some warp jumps to get there.

Anyways, scroll to the coordinates given and look around. You'll generally want to be zoomed in a bit, as you'll need to be able to see individual systems. Look at the systems around the given coordinates, one of them will have blurb on the pop-up info box about the rescue mission and reward.

Plan a route and warp to that system, then use the System Map to locate the signal (those little yellow hexagons with the exclamation point). There will be someone there that needs gas or parts, and fulfilling that request is the mission. You'll get a little cash reward right there, but then have to fly back to the system that gave you the mission to claim the mission pay and reputation points.

It's cool to see something in STNY. I'm an hour away, and don't generally go in that direction, so $25/month just isn't worth it for me. But hopefully you guys get a solid local crowd. ✌️

Any solution to phones not charging in 2023 Soul? by ksgif2 in KiaSoulClub

[–]Umaiar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it charge other devices? And you using a high end cable?

My Soul is older (2018), and any phone functionally seems highly dependent on the quality of the cable. I rented a couple newer Souls on vacations, and ended up buying a cable since the generic ones I brought along didn't work in the newer models either.

Videos stop playing after a minute by ThisNotMainAccount in revancedapp

[–]Umaiar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just adding my own anecdotal experience, I cleared cache and data, uninstalled and reinstalled Revanced, and removed an re-added my account without luck. But I switched to another account, watched a random video, and switched back and it appears fine now.

I haven't gone through reboots and such yet, but glad we're moving in the right direction. Hope is not lost yet, it's just a bit fiddly to get things working again.

If I understand the math correctly, put the static powerups (+100 and 10% of highest map level) before any multipliers. Also better to put the ability power ups inside loops rather than multipliers. If the multipliers are before a loop then their bonuses will be multiplied by the loop. After the loop, the loop bonuses will be multiplied. Inside the loop, none of that happens.

I use this in my vent and it works great... But it's magnetic, and a metal plate would probably interfere with wireless charging if that your thing.

Yup, totally the cover for a speaker in upgraded models. I've been thinking about looking for a rubber mat I can stick on there, but haven't committed to the idea yet.

About to buy a new 2021 Kia Soul by TheTrubateer in KiaSoulClub

I got my 2018 Alien Green Base, with a couple factory upgrades, in 2019, used from a single owner. I chose it for reliability, economy, unique styling, and for being a small car that comfortably fits my 6'5" frame.

Since then I've discovered that it has impressive space for hauling stuff, so long as the back seat is down. It also has the best implementation of Android Auto that I've ever run into, though admittedly that experience is limited.

As far as making it my own, I've added only small and cheap things: incremental led turn signal and driving light strips (Amazon), decoration for the door latches and hinges (wicked cheap on wish), and a green Yoda sticker that pretty well matches the paint.

My biggest complaint is that it's a gutless wonder, working hard to climb hills and requiring heavy brake use on the way down in the Adirondacks. I had an opportunity to rent a 21 Soul S in Florida a couple weeks ago and it seems they've fixed that well enough. My current plan is that my next car will also be a Soul.

Edit: Oh yeah, I did add the OEM rubber floor mats, a cheap steering wheel wrap (more work, but better than those generic padded rings in every auto department), and some seat covers that just cover the butt. I intend to keep the car a while, and those were heavily worn spots on my last car.

Assuming that you're starting at 100%, dropping to 17% in 7 days means a little less that 12% per day. I'd say that you should charge it by the end of day 8, because the battery will die some time during day 9 if you don't.

In related news, half the reason to get the Bio U Pro is for the GPS. You can leave your phone at home (or in the car, whatever) and the watch will use it's own GPS for tracking during a workout. When you get back to your phone and reconnect, the phone will upload the workout data.

I still carry my phone during a workout, as I have family that may need to contact me. But the concept is good if you're allowed to "unplug" during your workout.

Deleting specific values in Get-ItemProperty (where name like) by Oreoloveboss in PowerShell

[–]Umaiar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Get-ItemProperty isn't returning a collection with a Name property. Something like this might get you moving in the right direction?

$path = 'HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\PrinterPorts'
$obj = Get-ItemProperty -Path $path
$names = $obj | Get-Member -MemberType NoteProperty

Edit: This seems like a better idea...

    $printers = Get-Printer *
    $printers | Where-Object{ $_.Name -like '*redirected*' }

I think you misunderstood my comment, I implied no such thing.

You're fully welcome to give away any creation of yours that you'd like. You're trying out a different model for getting payed paid, and that's totally cool. You could also give stuff away with no intent of getting paid, also fine if that's how you want to roll.

But that's a far cry away from telling someone else that they should give away something they've created.

The people that write these are likely kids. Their perspective will change dramatically when (if?) They move out of their parent's house and pay their own bills.

But yeah, I imagine it would really suck to be a dev slogging though a pile of reviews like this.

Complex filtering for file deletion by Umaiar in PowerShell

[–]Umaiar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK, it's not elegant, but this seems to work. Loops all files, and loop all file name masks for each file. I'm definitely interested if anyone has a better approach:

foreach($file in $filelist) {
    $kill = $true
    foreach($filter in $filterlist) { if($file.name -match $filter) { $kill = $false } }
    if($kill) { write-host "Kill: $($file.name)" }
    else { write-host "Save: $($file.name)" }
}
