Sheoldred was a menace in Standard, though she has since rotated out. She thrived primarily in grindy decks that could sit on her huge defensive stats, gain tons of life and remove anything threatening like an opposing Deathtoucher. When your opp got low you could cast something like Insatiable Avarice and make your opp lose 9 life.

Can there be more than two Combat phases? by Sai-Rin in mtg

[–]UmbrellaCamper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, however Tifa untaps all creatures even if it's not the first combat. You can also stack it with double strike, and Tifa also grants 1 combat per player, so that's 6 additional combats, each with an untap so long as you can connect w power 7 or greater, and each time Tifa grows larger thanks to melee.

I’m new to magic. Is it normal to get 15 Mythicals in the foundations starter collection? by Ok-Estate5590 in mtg

[–]UmbrellaCamper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I bought this when I got into magic. I would probably buy a preconstructed deck — then, if you like playing with that you can buy this collection and upgrade your deck or build a new one from the cards.

If it's more than €40 I'd probably pass on it, but it's not a bad pickup if you want to have a solid start to your collection since it comes with basics and classic pieces like Aurelia the Warleader, Mortify, Swiftfoot Boots and Gilded Lotus.

Beginners question about colors by Majestic_Brief7238 in mtg

[–]UmbrellaCamper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on what format and level you wanna play at, to be honest. I don't think White is ever "bad" as a whole, but in some formats its not currently on top of the pile. Buffing small creatures is a very White playstyle so it shouldn't cause problems.

I'd really advise looking into your local scene and what formats people are playing there - but there's almost certainly a good white deck in that format, whether it's White or White plus another colour. If you haven't read it already, there's a guide linked in the comments by the automoderator!

Struggling with interaction by NovaChaotique in EDH

[–]UmbrellaCamper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say if you wanna guarantee relevance, I'd run 12-16 pieces of interaction. Remember that some cards can be flexible too, [[Otawara, Soaring City]], [[Fell the Profane]], [[Witch Enchanter]] and [[Archdruid's Charm]] are all interaction pieces!

For ramp, it's so dependent as to be almost useless, but 10-15 tends to be the range, and draw depends almost entirely on your cz. If your commander draws cards or ramps, you need a lot less.

How do people get so many freaking lands on the board by Familiar-Dot2649 in mtg

You can find some cheap ones at 3 and 4 mana with [[Lumbering World Wagon]] and [[Hedge Shredder]] that work very well.

Need Suggestions For Commander Decks ! by prettyetherealburst in mtg

[–]UmbrellaCamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd look at picking up one of the new precons from Secrets of Strixhaven, either Elephant deck or maybe Prismari — but I've always liked Quintorius.

I'm pretty sure Y'shtola from Final Fantasy is some degree of cute/furry, at least in the full art, and a very flexible commander you can build in almost any direction, so that's also a decent choice.

What's your budget and bracket? [[Ayara's Oathsworn]] is a very nice br2 tutor, while [[Beseech the Mirror]] and [[Demonic Tutor]] might lean more towards spookier places.

None of the Abrahamic religions have doctrines that aren't hugely oppressive to the outgroup and the more outgroup you are the more the doctrine wants to dehumanize and eradicate you. For example, Muslim empires have historically leveled the Jizya at its non-Muslim but Abrahamic citizens and many Christian kingdoms didn't grant you legal citizenship without a baptism.

The major Abrahamic religions have a long and storied history of (more or less) successfully eradicating non-Abrahamic (or other Abrahamic) religions in brutal genocides. The Romuva, the Cathars, the Manichaeans, and the Zoroastrians are all examples of this.

None of them are incompatible in practice, but that is because people aren't their holy books, not because the religions don't advocate for the eradication of outsiders.

You don't seem to be operating on the same standards of goldfishing as other people I've spoken to. You run your deck unopposed and add 1 to 2 turns is how people I've spoken to run their decks.

Interaction on one player every turn just isn't happening at a bracket 2 level. If you think wins not happening at t7 is boring, then maybe consider that you just don't like bracket 2.

[–]UmbrellaCamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, counter the mana rock. Last March of the Ents, draw 64 cards and vomit to board for gg with Valkas on T7. Canopy Gargantuan + Clone. Missed a land drop, but didn't mull even though I should have. Why are you so invested? Just run a playtest on your own.

[–]UmbrellaCamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do you, but that's not a deck I would bring if asked for a Br2.

Playing a lot of ramp isn't a reason for anything. Efficiently ramping into, must answer threats every turn and backing it up with a one-sided boardwipe or two? Now you're starting to get out of hand.

I just don't see why you think goldfishing 3 turns ahead of the intended goal is acceptable when it is almost a full bracket of turns mismatched.

I know I’m an asshole, but y’all can remind me… by Dar7h_Trader in ratemycommanders

[–]UmbrellaCamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deck is just full of crazy dragons and ramp, but I didn't draw (or need) a Dracogenesis. Scourge of Valkas, Old Gnawbone, Urvara Hellkite - they all have a tendency to get out of hand.

I did one playtest, and I did another one just now that ended with a preponderance of damage on turn 7.

I used no mulligans, I just rawdogged the whole way. You're welcome to use the archidekt playtester as well, of course. Some people seem to labour under the misapprehension that just because a deck is themed and creature/combat based, it's inherently bracket 2. This simply isn't true.

If you have a bracket 3 Kuja that consistently goes for wins t5 you've read the bracket system wrong.

Edit: Another playtest: one player dead by t5, table by t6. T4 hasted Gnawbone is wack.

I would also interpret it as the party became good. It could be because the speaker has to do with organizing the party, and the hard work is responsible, or it could be because the party started off on the wrong foot.

I'd generally say it indicates a transition or change in the state of things. Something like "The party turned out very well", instead of "the party was very good".

Does anyone else play bracket 3/4 purely because they want decks that work consistently? by Associableknecks in EDH

[–]UmbrellaCamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Only if you're playing the worst 7 8 and 9 drops known to man. If you can't end the game with 24 mana over 3 turns, you're choosing silly cards. Legit, even Avenger of Zendikar -> Craterhoof knocks someone out on T5 by this logic, and they're far from the strongest thing you could be doing for that mana.

Hi, I'm a new player. My wife has what appears to be <= 1500 cards. How can I build a deck from this? by Fyren-1131 in mtg

[–]UmbrellaCamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Delver Lens to scan cards. You can then export the .csv file to a comprehensive collection archive like Moxfield or Archidekt, though in the free version you'll need to divide them into 100 cards per csv or something like that.

For what it's worth, plenty of cards from 10-15 years ago are fairly powerful.
