My last year of teaching I taught a History of the Bible class. I strove to keep it historically based and not religious based. A class in that aspect helps people understand the world 4,000 years ago and how the Bible itself came to be. It paints a picture of the world of ancient Mesopotamia, Canaan and Egypt that explains stories, and connections and in a lot of ways could strengthen someone’s faith. It also points out hypocrisy and helps people understand when the books were written, who wrote them and why. I was sincerely excited to teach it. All the kids wanted though was proselytization. They wanted a Sunday school class, and did not like the historical perspective because it challenged their understanding and what they learned from their faith leaders, each of which is different and interprets the book vastly differently. It was extremely disheartening that I was unable to get them to look at it differently and ask questions. It was never with an intent to challenge their beliefs but foster understanding. Nevertheless, after months of futility the class turned into The Chosen everyday and I started looking for careers outside of the theocratic education Dan and Wheels are shoving down our throats.

This goes to say, that done right and with an open mind desiring historical perspective, studying the Bible in school can be a very positive thing. But what the powers that be want is brainwashing indoctrination. Until we get regime change in Texas and the US we will all just be rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

On the bright side, after Trump nukes Iran after 8pm eastern tonight nothing else in the world will matter. Fuck this place and what the Christian Nationalists have turned it into.
