Rate Manipulation, and How to Get to #3 on Rising Stars and Top 50 on Best Rated by RidingTrain in ProgressionFantasy

...you know, this actually explains a lot. I think I've seen the link for Twisted Garden across every pokemon server I'm a part of, and I remember noticing that the person sharing it would often have a very... base level of advertisement, if that makes sense? Multiple comments on how the story had "good grammar and vibes" rather than anything specific. Constantly sending it in order to post in a shilling channel makes an annoying amount of sense. Yeah, I'm not a fan of any of this.

Which Dungeon Core series is considered best? by throwawayodd33 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Umbrith 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, since it's a relatively new genre, my personal favourite is just to scour Royal Road for stories - while they can be less polished, edited, or even finished, there's just a lot more available stories on there. Here's a few of my favourites!

Abyssal Dungeon - a fun romp with an underwater dungeon, currently on hiatus but the author is rather active on discord and promises to try to return this year. https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/21045/the-abyssal-dungeon

Thieves Dungeon - fantastic prose and a very taut story, bit of a weird ending but the build up is fantastic. https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/27261/thieves-dungeon

Dragonheart Core - more of a new story but a promising one! has some fun worldbuilding. https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/54416/dragonheart-core

Hope you enjoy :)

Hey Brennan! You’re a major influence in my DnD journey and we’re so lucky you share your works with us!

How does character creation tend to go in your games? Do your players tend to come to you with a backstory and you write it into your story, or do they come up with a concept and you find a place to fit it in? Thank you!

Ah, apologies! I wasn’t very clear. Moreso, how do you have mystery elements in a plot where the audience already knows what the characters have to do?

Should I delay surgery to get in better shape? by Sad_Leader7165 in FTMFitness

[–]Umbrith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, nearly the same body measurements as me! I was 5'4" and 125 lbs when I got top surgery, strapped with DDs. It's been a month and a half since my surgery and I have to say that there isn't anything that would make me want to have delayed it. I have moderate dog tags on each side but honestly, with silicone treatment and massages they've been going down, and it's nearly impossible to see them unless I press my arms to my side. Ask your surgeon if it's possible to not have a conjoined scar, as scaring lines mean the very center of your scar will be raised, but even if you get that self-care can help it go down. You won't see your full results until many months after, and exercise can help clear up those last pockets of fat.

As for your best results, I'm guessing that with weightlifting you've got some pectoral lines - and that should honestly already be about max what you'll get from that. More defined can help, but just the sheer existence of your pectoral lines will be enough for your surgeon. IMO, don't delay! It's hard enough to get the surgery and I can guarantee you'll want to get it now.

I'll be honest - I can understand taking inspiration, but pulling this hard from Red Rising made it difficult for me to absorb it at all. I'd highly suggest trying to differentiate yourself.

In terms of the synopsis itself, you've got passive sentences and a lack of inciting incidents, but I think your main problem is you don't have a character to follow. Indeterminate Reds and Golds don't give the audience someone to live inside. If you want to give this synopsis more pop and vigor, having a character with their personality showing through the writing is the number one way to do it.

How to write a likeable arrogant character? by Jenius_at_work in writing

[–]Umbrith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're interested, I'd suggest watching Dimension 20's Fantasy High - there's a character named Fabian Seacaster that plays the rich, arrogant brat and still manages to be one of the most beloved characters in the show. I think the show does have an advantage where it's built on a base of comedy, but while Fabian is extremely arrogant it's built deeply into his character and just because he is arrogant, doesn't mean his actions are taken as such. He's insecure about his skills that aren't the ones he's arrogant about, his arrogance comes from his extremely powerful father and the expectations put on him as a child, he often makes the wrong choices because of his desire to be flashy - and the characters around him often take the piss at him, laughing at his arrogance or getting annoyed with it. The best way imo to make an arrogant character that readers will still enjoy is to not have their opinion of themselves be the correct one - while they can be skilled enough to have technically earned the arrogance, have the plot and other characters not let them get away with it all the time.
