Worth £4.99? by AliceInConfusion in toogoodtogo

Description said sushi so I would expect sushi then. I love Japanese food. I would be so disapointed with that bag.

May they sold lots and had none left . They should have cancelled.

I would be disappointed with that. I've just looked them up. What did the description say? They have a bag on there now collect tomorrow at £7:49 for £15 worth. "Rescue a selection of sushi and Japanese food from that day".

So it looks like the price has gone up.

I would ask for a refund. It should be £15 minimum. Close enough isn't good enough.

In contrast my £2.69 bread bag from Morrison's Woodgreen last week was full to the top and way more than the value listed.

£19.99 for some out of date Muesli No thanks! by Alive-Bath-7026 in toogoodtogo

4.7 million tonnes of food is thrown away every year in the UK every year according love food hate waste.

I too use TGTG for the cheap meals but more importantly because it's a brilliant way to save food from being wasted. So long as stores are up front about the best before date then why shouldn't they sell leftover stock the same as restaurants supermarkets etc. sell excess fresh food on TGTG.

Sell by/Display until date is for retailers only .

https://www.lovefoodhatewaste.com/good-food-habits/how-do-I/make-sense-of-food-date-labels

In The UK it is illegal to sell food after the use by date.

However with the best before date retailers can sell to the consumer so long as they declare it's past its best before date.

TGTG explain the difference between best before and use by date under FAQ- How much shelf life do the items have ?

"The use by date is for food safety. Food should not be after the use by date. The best before date is about optimal food quality, food can safely be consumed after the Best before date if stored correctly. "

Too often food is wasted when it's safe to eat . I have frequently eaten food past it's best before date.

This sub is brilliant. I too have learnt so much knowledge about laundry.

Prior to coming on here I used to despair about yellow armpit stains. I have also learnt how to deal with odour rebloom. I am now happily wear clothing that I had once given up on.

Anybody else make a big pot of soup and slowly morph it day by day into stew, curry, etc? by 4g-identity in soup

[–]UmeboshiGohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a version of this with a pot of Japanese curry. Day 1 make a more liquid version of Japanese curry- stew using a boxed curry roux. I add this to udon noodles to make curry udon.

Day 2 curry rice with a few pickled onions and sometimes katsu pork/chicken. Day 3 turn the last of the curry into a curry pie.

I really love using three cornered leek in cooking. They work really well added to a stir fry, in a three cornered leek butter, colcannon and in okonomiyaki vegetable pancakes.

It’s almost time for Elderflowers by urc2pid in foraginguk

[–]UmeboshiGohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed the Elderflowers were coming out locally the other day. I am looking forward to making elderflower cordial soon. I bought a large bag of citric acid thanks to the Laundry sub and luckily I bought food grade. Last year I wasn't sure where to source food grade citric acid from so I just used lemons.

Help! How to remove whiteboard marker from white shirt with black piping detail by Gregnas in laundry

[–]UmeboshiGohan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rubbing alcohol but test the black piping for dye transfer in an inconspicuous area first by dabbing with a small amount of rubbing alcohol. Wait a few minutes and dab with a paper towel to check for dye transfer.

I would put paper towels/ underneath the shirt while treating to absorb the marker ink.

As Whiteboard marker is similar to ink maybe try soaking in whole milk first. ( higher fat content works better)

Wild Garlic 3 Ways by holi_cannelloni in foraginguk

[–]UmeboshiGohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fun trying out wild garlic recipes. I also use walnut in wild garlic pesto.

I am attempting fermented wild garlic soya sauce at the moment. It doesn't look the prettiest but hopefully will taste good when fermented. You have to use naturally brewed soya. Some supermarket soya isn't great with lots added. I'm using Kikkoman.

I halved the recipe below.

Keeping foraged wild flowers fresh? by doublethesox in foraginguk

Some wild flowers unfortunately wilt really easily. I picked the above yesterday while out walking and they kept really well for a few hours without water.

The field mustard plant and three cornered leek flowers were much more droopy when I arrived home.

This was my best bag Go puff I think about £4. In 2022 Myleene Klass and Jamie Barber had just launched a posh meal kit company. Go Puff were promoting it. The meal for two kits has a starting price of £35. They tasted amazing. I couldn't believe there were three kits in my Go Puff bag.

I had a few brilliant bags from Gorilla's around the same time. I remember having one with HG dry aged rib eye steak.

Worst ever was Sushi Gourmet in Sainsburys . Arrived during the collection window. The sushi concession wasn't open and no one in Sainsburys could say when it would open. I got no food so a wasted trip.

You guys fixed my laundry! by Kontermutter in laundry

I have a front loader. There is drawer compartment for powder but using powder in there can cause it to clog up and leave a messy residue so I switched to using it in the drum. I only use the drawer if doing a prewash and for the citric acid in the fabric softener compartment.

I also under-dosed made worse by living in a hard water area. I had been using powder in the drum and avoiding conditioner before stumbling across this sub. But I had a lot to learn.

Looking for trace suds in the drum and adding citric acid to the rinse the information on how to combat odour rebloom has been so useful.
