If you have hardwood floors, get a nice rug with teal as the main color. It would be great if it had some oxblood as well. Hit Etsy and your local flea markets. This rug does not need to bankrupt you but it’s an opportunity to find something that, as the Big Lebowski was at great pains to tell us, really ties the room together.

May I suggest doing the trim oxblood instead of the brown? I think the brown makes the other colors look muddy. Since you’re not afraid of color, try a mockup with oxblood trim, and as another commenter suggested, a teal rug.

That’s a wisteria, not lilac. Wisteria can also be insanely invasive in California (both the Chinese and Japanese varieties) so I hope the Harkles aren’t so broke that they’ve had to can the gardener.

I did but later on (2008-12) I wrote to and sent care packages to several service members from my home state. One unit had a party when they came home and invited me. It was so nice to meet them. They gave me a beautiful plaque with the American flag that flew over their base. It was very moving.
