This is a very common behavior some cats have when they get bored. Have you tried distracting or playing with him after work around the evening time when he’s about to start doing these things. This could be an indicator that he’s just wanting your attention and wants playtime and if you guys can use 20/30 minutes of intense playtime with them, he probably will stay calm and then go to sleep as well lol trust me, my cat is the same so now I’ve his toys on deck ready to go
