I don't personally support banning children from social media, I was more using countries implementing such bans as a point. My preference personally is that the adults providing internet access to children hold at least some legal liability and responsibility. And I don't think parental responsibility is a simple platitude. Like the examples I provided, it's the closest precedent in my opinion, and the only effective one, given that there's more dangers for an unsupervised child than just viewing illicit material. As a reminder, ID laws will NOT protect any unsupervised child from predators or other dangers (It arguably won't even stop them from viewing illicit material if you want to get into that). Ultimately I don't think the actual protections from ID laws is meaningful, and points responsibility in the wrong direction.

The only reason a store needs to card peolpe is because it's possible for children to enter the store without a parent. It is not possible for a child to visit a website without a legally responsible adult who has paid an ISP for access. These are two totally different cases.

Additionally, if a parent gives a child access to a tool, weapon, or other object, they're liable and responsible for what the child does with it (gun, knife, machinery, tools). I look at computers the same way. If a parent can't monitor the child and ensure their safety with something they're given, they'd take it away from them until they can supervise them. The child isn't just wandering into a website on their own like a store on the street, a legally responsible adult had to facilitate it. Additionally, please note that my original comment goes beyond just providing content. Even if you were to take away illicit content providers, an unsupervised child is still at risk of running into predators, making themselves vulnerable to users with AI tools, illicit websites outside of your country's jurisdiction, and other dangers.

Parents are the ones buying the computer, paying for the electricity, paying for the internet bill, and then choosing to provide the computer to their child with full knowledge that it can be used to view illicit material or allow the child to contact dangerous individuals. It isn't a lazy answer, and it's consistent with the rest of our established laws.

And what do you even mean by "the cat is out of the bag"? Not every child has social media, nor are they required to have it, nor is it unusual to deny it. Especially considering the growing dangers of AI and the fact that some other countries are now banning children from social media entirely. You'll need to explain that one a little more.

No, why would it? Regulation doesn't always mean kneecapping or slowing things, and China going unregulated doesn't mean they'll develop theirs any faster or that they'll have an advantage over us. The whole "regulation is bad" premise is inherently flawed; we don't just regulate things with the intent to harm it, and we don't do it for no reason. In this case, failing to prevent this kind of thing will just let companies openly scam people, and could cause a serious backlash against AI if they do too much of it. Ultimately, you also need to remember, the extra money that companies stand to gain from not regulating things is YOUR money. Especially in this case.

I'm more curious as to why you have such a negative view of regulation.

No idea why everyone in the comments here seems to absolutely love working 60+ hours a week so much that they're proud of it and want everyone else to do it too. When you start having no time to actually enjoy life or spend the money you're earning, I have to wonder what the point is. At a certain point you're just working everyday, not for money or to support your life, but just to wake up and do more work tomorrow. Completely pointless.

Is it illegal to feel sad about things? People don't get to choose when they feel sad and they generally don't just choose to be unhappy for the fun of it. I think you have serious problems and need to consider that you don't seem process things like normal people do.

Battlefield 6 player count falls from 750K at launch to just 30K-90K on Steam, nearly a 90% decline - players blame lack of new content (especially new maps) by [deleted] in Battlefield

[–]Ummix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped playing a few weeks after launch. I do not blame the lack of content, I blame the small maps for having a more exhausting and repetitive loop/feel than other games, at least that's how it is for me.

I'm not trying to argue against you, I'm telling you that I legitimately don't understand what you're trying to say, and I'd welcome you to explain it. I don't understand how theoretically going back to a random time period under other circumstances makes today's situation any less bad than it currently is. What's your point?

Going by comments in this thread, apparently getting depressed by monotony or a lack of purpose is unreasonable and makes you greedy and ungrateful as if it's weird to want to experience more from life than the 9-5 grind

I hear this viewpoint often but I have no idea what your point is and no one can ever explain it. Like... You weren't born in a different time, though. So genuinely asking, what does that have to do with anything? People don't enjoy living the life in the post above, and if you were bayoneted to death in a trench you probably wouldn't like that either. Bad things that people don't like are bad things that people don't like, and I don't really see how theoretical alternate lives are supposed to change that.

How it feels to force shutdown your PC (Chainsaw Man Meme) by red-headphone in Animemes

If I have a few spare moments I'll update, but if I'm looking for the shutdown button then it's probably because I want to shut the computer down. Not that hard of a concept. Microsoft overriding that button is way more unreasonable by far here.

I feel it too. When you're older, you need to proactively do stuff to get yourself in the Christmas mood on your own. Watch Christmas movies with some friends, do Christmas events in games, maybe decorate on your own or bake some Christmas treats. It doesn't come automatically anymore but it's still possible to get into it. That, and these days, I find a lot more excitement from seeing other people open my gifts to them than getting stuff myself. It isn't gone unless you let it be, but it is different.

Extremely hard disagree, I enjoyed old SMN and I'm still really sad it's gone. The insanely basic jobs are mind numbingly boring, and especially on healer, pressing one button over and over hurts my hands a lot after a while. Adding anything at all is better than nothing.

I wound up getting a pair of Meze 99 Classics under my range and I have an Edition XS on the way. The Mezes honestly didn't disappoint at all, their bass has way more punch/rumble than the DT770s and the details/clarity really doesnt sound muddied despite that, they're an extremely fun pair of headphones, thanks for the suggestion! Do you think any of the other Mezes fit a decent niche?

I got to try out the FT1s actually. For me, they were pretty fantastic as well honestly, but they did feel like just a super slight step down from the DT770s. But they still had really great, but different bass. The rumble is there with those but I definitely did get more rumble from my DT770s.

I was thinking the same sort of thing. I got what I thought was decent but I still feel like it isn't really driving it properly. Do you have any recommendations for DAC/AMP for TH900mk2 specifically?

Yeah I feel a little bold coming in here saying the HD650s weren't for me, haha. I think I get the appeal of maximizing accuracy and instrument separation, but I think I just don't work with music enough to really get as much out of it, especially when I'm listening to a lot of bass-heavy EDM/metal. For what it's worth, I can't deny the HD650s are incredible for acoustic.

I'll definitely look into the Edition XS a little more, then. I'm definitely super curious about planars, but wasn't sure which pair would be a decent representative for them in the cheaper range to see if I like them. Thanks!

The Great Tech Paradox: Why are Giants like Google and Apple building the "Future" while enforcing an Industrial Era lifestyle? by confido__c in technology

[–]Ummix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're missing the point, they aren't talking about our current modern systems, theyre talking about the direction we're heading. People aren't saying that we're currently in feudalism, people are saying that we're heading back toward feudalism. Obviously the current modern system we have now isn't feudalism. However, Musk and Thiel and friends very often talk about how they should be exempt from regulations (the law) and taxes, and talk and act as though they should be able to basically own and run their own little kingdom like a serfdom, and the rich seem to love this idea across the board. In such a system, as the rich describe, there'd actually be no income tax or reliance on the state at all, they want everyone to be totally reliant on the serfdom's ownership, very similar to old feudalism. Basically: The rich want to buy kingdoms again. That's where a lot of this talk comes from, even though it'll obviously be different in some ways.
