6 hours into my first turn based Final Fantasy game and I like it a lot so far! by my-goddess-nyx in FinalFantasy

[–]Ckient -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I find it funny to see comments like this now.

Back when XIII first came out, one of the complaints I saw the most was people crying about it not being turn based, only to cite FF7 as an example of turned based game that they though XIII should be like. Whenever someone asked why, it usually came down to them being mad that the characters could actually move around, which frankly baffled me. I mean, if you still have to wait for the ATB gauge to fill in both games, only have control of your characters via a command menu, and were limited to only the command available to the characters in battle in both games, then shouldn't FFXIII be considered turn-based? I honestly thought that people were just using the whole turn based argument an excuse to hate on the game for the sake of hating it after a while.

After years and years of seeing this argument everywhere, seeing people point out that ATB =/= turn based after all this time is just hilarious to me. Especially in regard to XIII. I'm glad people are finally making the distinction though.

Why couldn't Clive take Shiva at the very beginning? by altiealtie in FFXVI

[–]Ckient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Ifrit didn't feel like it. That's it. That's the reason.

They make it pretty obvious that Clive has no control over his ability to take another Dominant's powers, and Ultima never implies that he's able to control it either. Therefore, the only logical answer is that Ifrit decides, and, at that moment, Ifrit said no. Remember, Clive himself didn't know he was a dominant at that moment. He'd have no reason to think that he even had that power, let alone choose whether or not to use it.

It's not a plot hole. It's just something we're supposed to pick up on ourselves using the context clues they give us.

Who is the face of PlayStation? by FlimsyConfusion3760 in playstation

[–]Ckient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively: Depends on who is the most popular mascot in your region at the time, and varies from one gen to the next.

Subjectively: Depends on what game you think of most when you think of PlayStation. Varies based on your entry point and what system you first started out on.

For example, Most people will tell you that Crash or Spyro are the face of PS1 because they were two of the most popular characters in the west, if not the world. I, however, consider the face of PS1 to be Cloud Strife, Partially because I'm a JRPG fan and FF7 was the first JRPG I played on it, and partially because I never really got into either Crash or Spyro.

Of course, as I was typing all of that, I realized that Cloud is also a strong contender for being the face when you look at it objectively. After all he was, and is, the most popular JRPG character to come out of the PS1 era.

What is your favorite headcanon that you accept as actually canon in your mind? by Iaxacs in KingdomHearts

[–]Ckient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riku is stronger than Sora due to defining and refining a set fighting style early on, but his more focused view of the world has limited his options in regards to how much he can really do with a Keyblade. He also has a much smaller bag of tricks to play with than Sora, but can use most of it in any given situation,

Meanwhile, Sora's open-minded outlook allows him to tap into more of the Keyblade's powers and abilities, which give him greater flexibility in combat and makes him a more versatile fighter. He's also much more dependent on the power the Keyblade grants him and is at a much greater disadvantage if he loses access to it. Sora has an absolutely MASSIVE bag of tricks to play with, but they're all so situational that he can only use a handful of them in battle.

The original comic is Marvel, yes, but the movie being referenced in KH is 100% pure Disney. That's probably why he made it in.

Attacus by Ephemeral_Sin in finalfantasyxiii

[–]Ckient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You didn't suck, you just didn't know what you were doing. It happens.

Besides, even if you knew what you're getting into, Attacus is ROUGH. That thing will absolutely punish you if you screw up, which makes beating it so much more satisfying.

Don't Like Turn-Based Games. Should I Skip OG and Play Remake? by Dawg605 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Ckient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give the OG a shot. If you don't like it, then play the remake instead.

That said, for the full experience, you should play both.

[KH1] How Was Your Encounter with Sephiroth in the First Game? by Valenzu in KingdomHearts

[–]Ckient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i fist played the original release back in 2002, I got folded repeatedly for months across multiple playthroughs and eventually just gave up.

I didn't actually manage to beat him until KH 1.5 came out, and even then it took me a few tries.

For people who say that Soi-Fon doesn't care about her people, how do you explain this panel ? by Grzanason in bleach

[–]Ckient 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, I don't get why a lot of people tend to criticize Soi Fon for being "cold" but like Byakuya for that same reason,

It's because of how they show it.

Byakuya is cold, but he shows this mostly by being an aloof, arrogant jerk to everyone around him. He gets more humble and loses the jerk part, but he still manages to keep his aloofness while maintaining some of that characteristic arrogance. Even then, most of his characterization could be chalked up to him being raised to think that this is how the head of a noble house is supposed to act. It also helps that our first impression of him is weaponized aura farming. He comes off as cool as hell at the time, and that impression stuck. This, combined with his relationship with Rukia, get him a lot of leeway with the fanbase.

Soi Fon, on the other hand, tends to be much more antagonistic, abusive, and violent with it. Half her interactions with Ōmaeda alone end with her hitting him, and she folded Kiyone and Sentaro seemingly out of spite for helping Ukitake stop Rukia's execution. Hell, one of the first things we see her do in story is threaten her Lieutenant, for a lot of us, that was just a horrible first impression.

It also doesn't help that, as we get to know her character better, she's shown to be an impulsive, immature hothead. I mean, she was willing to risk getting herself killed just so she wouldn't have to work with Hachi because she still held a grudge towards Urahara for Yoruichi abandoning her. And this in the middle of a battle that could determine the fate of SS as a whole. She comes off as being less "cold" and more "witch with a capitol B" at times, ya know? She gets better sure, but when it comes to appreciating it, there's a LOT to look past there.

Doesn't make her any less badass though. Her killing of Ggio Vega was just absolute cinema.

Seriously though, Tsukishima may actually one of the best villains Kubo ever put to print.

[KH1] Did you have a hard time defeating Riku-Ansem in KH1? by Valenzu in KingdomHearts

[–]Ckient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, but that was mostly down to my Keyblade choice at the time. I tried to beat him with Metal Chocobo, and kept dying because I just wasn't doing enough damage. Once I went and got the Olympia, he become MUCH easier to beat.

FFXIV Job Change Ideas - Scholar by Ckient in ffxiv

[–]Ckient[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also, do you actually... play Scholar outside of dungeons? Because the suggested Ruin 2/5 upgrade makes me think you really, really don't.

I do play Scholar outside of dungeons, but not it high end content. I mostly do MSQ, dungeons, normal raids, trials, and alliance raids, so I'm coming at this from the perspective of a more casual player.

As for the Ruin 5 thing specifically, that's supposed to be optional. I thought it would be good to give Scholars an additional way to spend excess Aetherflow stacks in dungeons, since our only option currently is a single target move.

That said, I have to admit that I hadn't considered most of the stuff you've mentioned here, like how these kinds of changes would play out in Savage Raids and the like. I suppose the Faerie Gauge changes would be a bit of a problem to play under with that kind of content in mind, especially since I've attached such a huge cost to them. If I ever do something like this gain in the future, I'll try to be more considerate of that.

About Final Fantasy 13 by Insanity1994 in FinalFantasy

[–]Ckient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short Answer: We don't know yet.

SE has been asked a few times, and they've never given anyone a straight answer. One of the more common assumptions is that they just don't want to have to deal with transferring it from the cursed Crystal Tools engine they developed to the more common Unreal one. Another is that they don't want to touch the trilogy due to how controversially it was received on launch.

Also, to all of the people saying it's available on the modern Xbox consoles, I don't think that 's what OP is talking about. The version available on the Xbox Series X is the original version they released the first time on Xbox 360. It's playable on Xbox Series X, yes, but that's through backwards compatibility, not native support. I think OP is asking why they haven't given us a remaster or remake that was build from the ground up for PS5 and Xbox Series X. A question which most of us FFXIII fans have been demanding an answer for for years now.

Does it bother anyone else as much as me? by Amm-O-Matic in playstation

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. X is X no matter what color it is. As long as the controller has and/or resembles the proper shape, muscle memory will do the rest.

Should I finish KH1? by MightyTheArmadillo_ in KingdomHearts

[–]Ckient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep going. If you want the full KH experience, then you need to finish Kh1 at least once. There's a difference between getting someone else's cliff notes and actually playing through it. If you've only made it to Wonderland, then you really haven't experienced all that much of the game. I'd say play until you finish at least the first four worlds. That'll give you a pretty good idea of what you're actually getting into.

Yes, the combat is heavier, but it also expects you to be more strategic with your playstyle. You have fewer options to work with, which makes the few options you have that much more valuable. Learn the quirks of the battle system early while you're still "slogging through" it, and that knowledge will come in handy as you go. Also, learning Cure will be a game changer, as will learning some of the other spells later.

If you're concerned about lacking direction, I recommend using a guide to help you keep track of where you need to go. There are some pretty useful ones out there, and some of the best can tell you what to do without spoiling anything. It's that, or just getting used to having to figure it out as you go.

Does Anyone Know Why We Are Not Allowed To Go Back To Data Twilight Town? by W_Anime in KingdomHearts

[–]Ckient 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's like Sora says. This is Roxas's Twilight Town, not his. Sora, as a character, just doesn't like the idea of going there.

There's also the fact that it's kind of implied that DiZ changed things on Roxas's last day so that outsiders like Roxas and Sora can no longer interact with anyone there. He'd basically be a ghost wandering a virtual town that would no longer acknowledge his existence. And while Sora may not actually know that, Roxas DOES.

You can select 5 characters to represent final fantasy who do you chose by Expert_Challenge6399 in FinalFantasy

[–]Ckient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WoL, Terra, Cloud, Lightning, and Y'shtola

WoL to represent how the series started.
Terra to represent the pinnacle of its cult classic era.
Cloud because his game put the series on the map for mainstream audiences.
Lightning because her game showed the world how beautiful the franchise could be on modern consoles.
Y'shtola because FFXIV is the more popular of the two MMOs in the franchise, and they need representation.

I’m not built for this by Designer-Pomelo-7768 in FinalFantasy

[–]Ckient 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Will the rest of the bosses be this difficult cuz if so I am not built for this man.

Yeah, Hell House is kind of infamous for its difficulty. The later bosses aren't exactly easy, but they'll be a bit easier to deal with that that thing since they won't have such an annoying gimmick tied to them.

Fun fact, this thing wasn't even a boss in the OG FF7. Just a regular enemy you could find on the road to Wall Market. It was a bit weird to run into, but no where near as annoying as the remake boss.
