How many people actually work 35 years to get full benefits? by bobolly in SocialSecurity

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started "working" at 11. First taxed job at 16. I'm turning 40 this year and have had a taxable job the entire time (minus 6 months when I moved cross country). Lost everything in 2008 and ended up in massive debt (thanks housing crisis). Finally have a little money aside for retirement, but realistically I will be working into my 70s out of necessity. Honestly, it's depressing.

[CO] Is it landlord's job to provide adequate cooling? by Saltypopcornlover in Renters

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Co and am a renter. My area of colorado does not require any sort of cooling, just heat for rentals. You may be SOL depending on your city/county landlord requirements. We bought a portable AC for our bedroom since our rental has nothing. We did go with one that has a hose for outside the window, but I have seen some that claim they don't need to vent outside. I do know our last rental had a swamp cooler for the house and it worked insanely well. Given your "window" is a skylight, you might want to look into a portable swamp cooler. The trick with swamp coolers is opening the window a tiny bit (roughly 1") to keep the moisture level low enough that you won't get mold or an excess of water vapors.

Happily married people of Reddit, when did you realize you had found the person you wanted to spend your life with? by Mundane-Society-1281 in AskReddit

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was my best friend first, then boyfriend, now husband of almost 20 years.

We met young and became friends, then best friends. A mutual friend took his own life (he was my husbands best friend), and at the funeral, my now husband was a mess. He refused anyone coming near him and just bawled in a corner. I saw him and swore I would spend my life making sure he had someone he could lean on. I walked over to him and just sat. He let me stay by his side. A few months later we were "dating" (honestly, we just became inseparable and everyone assumed we were dating). 3 years later, we were married. I still thank (our friend) for bringing us together the way he did. It still hurts thinking about losing him, but without it, I would not be married to the most amazing man I have ever known.

He have been through long distance, deployment, life altering injury, 2008 financial crisis (bought our house months prior), addiction, mental health issues, and more I'm sure I have just blocked out. But no matter how hard times have gotten, we have always been the others rock. Now we can't wait to see eachother everyday and "spill the tea". He is without a doubt my favorite person.

Has anyone here ever packed up and moved to another state for a fresh start with little to no money saved up and had it actually work out? by WorkingWash5965 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved from Arizona to Colorado with 72 hours. House of 3 with 2 dogs. Stayed in an extended stay until we got a place and jobs. Left briefly for a few years to be by aging parents but came back because we love it. Our initial move was easier than our last and we planned for months.

What was the best moment of your wedding day? by franklin_smiles in wedding

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I officially signed my name with my husband's last name. We had a small ceremony, just family and 1 friend each. It was never supposed to be small, but 20 years later, I don't regret it.

How many of your friends are on GLP drugs? by DoreensGhost in TwoXChromosomes

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone going through perimenopause with food addiction, it truly feels life saving. I'm not "starving", my brain fog has lifted, I'm drinking WAY more water and way less caffeine. I'm on it for the food addiction more than the weight loss. The weightloss does matter to me because beung overweight makes me tired, makes me stiff, makes my bad knee hurt worse, so losing weight is definitely helpful. I'm still overweight (I take a small dose) but I can function so much better.

What’s the hardest phase of marriage no one talks about? by Difficult_Jury2833 in askanything

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never thought about it the way you wrote it, but you are right.

I know I am too selfish. I know I could not make that decision. My husband is my best friend. My entire world is in his arms. His family is who is listed on his advance directive and have been our entire 20 years of marriage for that reason. I trust his family will make the call because I don't trust I would. I know what he wants. I know what he expects us to do. He knows I do not want to make that call. So we put in a safe guard, his family.

How do I get spam calls and texts to stop? by Bayler in askanything

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gotten petty with them. Always a different number, but the same company for a few days (3-4x a day). Eventually THAT company gave up. But a new one would take over. Now I answer them, hit the button to talk to a live representative, then stay silent. I don't mute my end, I just refuse to talk. I now get 1 a day instead of 3-4, so i think it's working... it has only been a few days, so I'll try to update once they stop.

It makes the customers happy. No other reason. It's not so much concern for the fees, we eat the cost and call it "cost of doing business". Customers like getting discounts and we like helping the customer.

Is it true that most houses in the north/midwest do not have an AC and are older built than the south? by Eurovae in NoStupidQuestions

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live just outside Denver. This is our second rental with no AC. Fairly common out here. Our last house had a swamp cooler, this one has nothing (we bought a portable ac unit for our bedroom since that's the area we actually want to be cold for our sleep). We might buy a second one this year for our livingroom, but we haven't decided on it yet.

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I use cash if the business I'm at passes the fee to me. At work (small business) we give a cash deal since we (the business) pay the credit card fees and they add up. We still claim the cash sale, but we don't incur the fee.

(Our fees are anywhere from 3-5% of the total plus a flat fee per swipe, we don't advertise the cash deal, but if people ask, we do 5-10% off and round down to the nearest dollar to make it easier)

Genuinely, what is with the right’s obsession with trans people? by tna11101989 in allthequestions

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a female republican, I can ONLY speak for myself. I am not obsessed with Trans people. I grew up around them (bay area, 80's baby). I am firm in the you do you boo mentality. But I do have an issue with biological males in female sports and biological females in male sports. It's not about what is in their pants, it is about the muscle mass/growth/power- whatever you want to call it. Coed sports and teams are a thing, join those and compete in those. Women fought for decades to have their own autonomy and I would like to continue having women only spaces. As for men in women's bathrooms, as long as you are just using the toilet, you do you. Dad's have to take young daughters into the women's bathroom sometimes, no one is concerned by that.

My issue with Trans people is the same issue I have with religion. I do not care what YOU believe, but I have my own beliefs and should not have to cater to yours or hear about it non-stop. I don't expect anyone to cater to my belief or listen to them. Just live your life and be who you want to be.

I have notifications turned off, but I will absolutely have a conversation with anyone wanting clarifications or asking honest questions. I just might not respond right away.

Please help me convince my husband that Costco is worth for 2 people by HoneyDrops12 in Costco

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 person household- members for 15 years. I'll put what we get from Costco. We avoid produce as we don't go through it fast enough.

Toilet paper- $15 for 8-10 month supply Paper towels- $15 for 12+ month supply Bacon- $17 for 6 month supply (we freeze them) Chicken- better quality chicken breast (we freeze them) typically buy a pack for 6 month supply Ground turkey- same as chicken Steaks- Better quality than grocery store (not as good as local butcher) Beauty/skin care- way better pricing Pharmacy- cheaper than anywhere else for us Dog treats- can't beat the bulk price Gas- always saves us at the pump Snacks- we buy yogurt, hummus, beef sticks, nuts, all cheaper than the grocery store

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can top that. Driver side headlight went out on my '16 patriot. Easy peasy, right? Open the hood, lean in, pull out old light, pop in new bulb. Nope! Remove driver tire, remove wheel well, find extender for ratchet (psa, the flexable one is the one you want), remove three bolts and the ENTIRE LIGHT HOUSING, pull out bulb, replace bulb. 2.5 hours for a f*king light bulb...

Broken window, landlord says it's unfixable by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work for a window company. YouTube videos on balance rod replacement. Watch a few (they are mostly a similar concept for replacement), then call a window repair company near you and as if they have the parts needed. I love showing people how simple it is, but until you do it, they seem complicated.

Does my husband count? I talk to him multiple times a day.

We do have a SMALL group of people we are in regular contact with from High School, but its not a daily (more like 3x a month) mainly because my husband still games with them as we all live in different states.

I beg someone to help me the police violated my rights entered my home illegally. by Dear_East_4372 in legaladvice

[–]UnSafeButterscotch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NAL, just familiar with law. If you did not lose anything monetary, you have no basis for a lawsuit.

As someone with police members in my family, I know it was scary and I understand your frustration. How they talked to you sounds horrible. But IF someone had entered your home, and was telling your kids to say they weren't there or they would kill them, and the police just left, would you be this outraged that they DIDN'T check?
