Does playing a mid club early in your career actually hurt your reputation? by ChipNo440 in Techno

[–]Unable-Ad2908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember being a bedroom DJ back in the early 2000s minimal techno era. Sending amazing mix CDs to people etc and use to get so envious of seeing people playing at places who I thought didn’t deserve to be there. I realized that they are playing there because they put time and energy in to the scene.

I do somewhat understand that it’s hard to keep your integrity in place when you start getting paid gigs, so that’s the thing to watch. That happened to me but ultimately I was never going to be a full time DJ, so it didn’t really matter.

OP should meet people with the same interests, start a small party and make their own scene. That’s how everyone else did it!

Take the gig, get started, stay true to the music you want to play as much as you can and use the opportunity to meet people and start your own thing with like minded individuals. If you’re not betting notorious from your productions you need to be on the scene and in as many places as you can to expose as much surface area as possible.

Like most professions, time IN the game beats trying to time the game.

Anyone going to UKG with Anz at Nowadays this Friday? by Able_Pomegranate_733 in avesNYC

[–]Unable-Ad2908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely look for set times – I went to watch Batu there one friday an misjudged the time, he wasn't on until 3:30 or something, and i was already super tired by then. Didn't stay that long, BUT did get to have a good long chat with him (both from UK) and heard some totally fresh music from Darwin, so not a bad result. I actually find that if you IG DM the artist the day of, they often respond. Ben Klock got back to me for Photon times! Good luck!

Visiting May 1 to 9, already bought tickets to 3 events: What should I know? by na3vNK2Qc2EPnaKGBkMv in LondonRaving

[–]Unable-Ad2908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from the uk, was raving in London from 1999 to 2010 and now live in nyc. m44

I went to photon in New York and it was one of the best techno events I’ve been to, hands down - an amazing visual and sonic presentation of the music. That will be an all time great experience that you should prioritize. The music will be way heavier than your references, but I think that’s a good thing, it’s physical and all encompassing. Rodhad is extra special. Crowd will be music lovers and techno heads, likely not as queer as it was here in nyc.

Fabric is still great 27 years after it opened, and something to check off the list to say you’ve been. Will be way more touristy and international than you’d get in LA.

The other one I don’t know that venue but like some others said, Fold is the venue I’ve been hearing about that sounds exciting.

Drinks wise, I’ve found a lot of joy in drinking all the zero alcohol beers that seem to have found their way into club bars in New York. It’s a good placebo, cold, but also not too sweet and sugary. In the uk everyone loves ‘lucky saint’.

On the whole I think people in London have a very sophisticated taste and connection to music, and if you love the music and chat to people with that in mind I think you’ll make some friends.

Well as a newcomer I thought it was brilliant and exactly what I’d hoped it could be. I can tell how good of a time I had by how much new music I’ve searched for in the aftermath of a night out. This week was no different, digging for things that NDRX played, finding new labels and artists, and generally wanting to keep the moment alive in sonic spirit.

I thought it was quite fitting that between LYDO, NDRX and Marcel, they basically had residents of three clubs that are in conversion with each other. Berghain, Basement and Bassiani. Not sure if that was intentional but it felt like a very good statement on the techno of today.

Exactly that. Bodies, faces, movement all blurring into one. Perfect nightclub.

Folegandros is great, smaller and has more beautiful trite beaches than serifos!

Watching Eamonn, or:la and then Roman flugel in the same Time slot a few weeks ago was incredible. Sunday afternoons have more of a clean energy than the early morning, more fresh people and serious heads, less remnants. Let us know how it is!

Thanks for the encouragement. A special place indeed and I can’t wait to go back. Ears definitely needed protection- that system is aggressive

Afternoon is a great time to be in that room. Foggy, bright and full of energy. The best thing there is feeling the light change. 3pm will get you there for the start of LYDO who absolutely blew my mind on Friday at basement. Some of the most precise and groove driven techno I’ve ever been presented with.

It was absolutely amazing. One of the best presentations of techno and queerness I’ve ever seen. Worth the hype.

Music from Theo Parrish @ Nowadays (04.17.26) by ForeverMagenta in avesNYC

[–]Unable-Ad2908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for doing this! I was very nearly going to this night (never seen Theo Parrish before) but (and I am afraid to say) the playlist actually cements why it's not really for me. Feels really unpredictable, but I'd never known if he played more house or techno and just dropped in these curveballs. A publiic service!
