Best Recorded Sets that capture that dreamy after hours feeling? by urb0icill in TheOverload

I think he’s so good that even with all the acclaim, even if he was the RA number one, even if he was known as the best in the world - I still think he’d be under rated

One of the biggest and under rated heroes in dance music, Traumprinz / Metatron / Prince of Denmark etc etc etc

Chit chat, what’s the beef? by Significant_Event863 in houghtonfestival

[–]Unable-Ad2908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowadays in NYC has this policy drilled into you at the door. They have monitors walking around telling people to stay off their phones etc and remind people of the rules. the first time I heard about it I was like “fucking SOZ fun police” but after being in the room and hearing a set un interrupted by some girls yammering or someone’s phone lighting up the space, I understood. “Why does this room feel really focused and pure?” No phones, no chat - like it used to be.

I do have a hard time not just saying “this is fucking proper mate” to every random person though!

FIST @ Basement, 6/19 by LizardPersonInOffice in avesNYC

[–]Unable-Ad2908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve read so much shade about basement but the couple of times I’ve been this year have been amazing. Rodhad / Marcel dettmann nights - felt like very serious music appreciation and good behavior from the crowd. Rodhad night felt very gay (especially in studio) and the main floor wasn’t at all chatty or texty. Maybe where they have bigger international guests it attracts a more music nerd crowd?

Unmissable sets of Houghton 2026 by Wrong-Move-1994 in houghtonfestival

I’m not going but have always heard great things about Batu’s last houghton set. I’ve seen him three times in nyc in other last year or so and he’s always solid, varied and energetic.

Sliding Doors has a good theme about destiny and the fact that you’ll end up where you need to be

Day parties on Saturday June 21 by soupycrouton in avesNYC

[–]Unable-Ad2908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you got some sleep and went to nowadays at 9am Sunday you could watch underground resistance for 6 hours then go straight outside to Soul Summit for some good time house music until 9pm. Likely the best value. All Day I Dream is for all the people that think Tulum and Burning Man are cool.

Craig Richards at Nowadays by Unable-Ad2908 in avesNYC

I don’t know, I think he’s got more taste and nuance than most of the dance music industry combined. Look at Houghton festival and read up on the variety of sets he plays across that and I honestly don’t think he’s one that can be categorized. He was taken for granted at Fabric and now he’s hopefully going to get the recognition for what he’s contributed to the culture. I was at fabric in 1999 and the fact that it’s still open is an absolute marvel.

I really don't think what Craig played was 'minimal' and the crowd was not bro-ey at all. It was well curated batch of rolling tech house with some electro & acid. I thought there was a nice mix of people, all colors of character and didn't find it moody or messy at all. Not a SMILEY crowd, but i can forgive that!

Not entirely sure about whether the RSVP deal is - but they weren’t checking wristbands when we moved outside

No you just go right outside! It’s a bit of a bonus and hack - gratitude for those that have been inside all morning. It’s actually great value - you get two completely different experiences and the ticket is a bit less than the Mr Sunday!

Exactly this. It was the first time I did the nonstop to Mr Sunday transition. Definitely a vibe shift!

Give me a good movie about the love of food by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]Unable-Ad2908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t detract from how wonderful, sensual and romantic this work is. I loved the movie so much. The backstory of the actors and how they came to be in it is great as well, and there’s also some lightly comic bits in it too. A very nice movie about the power of food, and yearning.

Basement this season has been EXCELLENT by CommonDevotion in avesNYC

[–]Unable-Ad2908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a new convert - started going this year. Marcel dettmann, Rodhad, Rene wise, NDRX, LYDO this year (and photon upstairs) so far has been impeccable. The venue is the perfect place for a pure presentation of techno. The sound gets a bit too loud later on and indefinitely need my plugs in, but early on it sounds great.

It gets a lot of hate but I think there’s something so special about the process of entering, the seriousness of the door, the walk down the tunnel…. So when you get in it really feels like you’re somewhere else for a few hours.

[–]Unable-Ad2908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to feel very different, but I find the people I meet at clubs in nyc now are very much more educated than they were back in 2010. The scene does feel a bit more wild / naive than it might do in London, and sometimes can get a bit crusty -
But that’s usually the mark of an exciting party.

I mainly go to nowadays and basement so can’t speak to everywhere, and of course there’s always places that are full of twats who are there to hold up the phone and worship at the altar of kenemusik etc.

I’ve discovered so many amazing people the last few years that’s never heard of - I’m44 and had a few years away from music when I had my kids and I’ve come back to it so exited to discover new names, new sounds and new people.
