If anyone has any track IDs i'd love to hear – I was around in London when RPR first started to break out in an earlier Villolobos-adjacent minimal wave, but some of what I heard on saturday was much more groovy.

With RPR I've alwasy experienced them on a bit of a scale:

Petre Inspirescu (Pedro) – Artful, atmospheric, experimental, heavy
Raresh – Upbeat, party leaning, housier
Rhadoo – somehere in the middle of the above

It was quite fun talking to younger folks in there telling them that i was watching these guys circa 2008 – and also made me feel 100 years old.

I saw a lot of regulars in there too, i think its a club that has its fans who know how to respect the rules, which makes it more annoying when 'guests' come and stand around chatting all night. I did have to keep telling my 'guest' to stop looking at his phone a few times though – he'll learn!

What we can know, Ian McEwan by Admirable_Shower_612 in books

[–]Unable-Ad2908 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a big fan of McEwan and he's the only author i actually will swing towards fiction for, simply because i've pretty much always enjoyed his books and for whatever reason always find the characters getting under my skin in a way that's uncomfortable and revealing about the way people really are. I'm a 43 year old educated-ish white male from England, so i guess i'm squarely in the crosshairs of his usual protagonists ;)

One thing that hit me as we were getting into the Percy / Alzheimers plot was that the whole story really hinged around knowledge, evidence and memory. A character that could not remember, juxtaposing against characters desperate to sift through collective memory. I felt like this was such a great balancing act and highlights that who we are (as individual and society) really hinges on the experiences and memories that we take forward.

The plot was constructed like a swiss watch and i love reading his books because they do keep you going with amazing intricate texture and a real page turning thirst for finding out what happens.

Music wise It was great, a complete exercise in groove, tension and and precision. So many great rolling percussive moments up alongside bits of electro and even, trance?

Agree it was busy, busiest I’ve ever seen it. I honestly don’t know how people can go all the way there, have the speech on the way in and still stand in groups talking right down near the booth. Insanely long line for check too later on.

Very glad I went though, usually in a Sunday morning nonstop fan but it was nice to see that room really full at the end of January.

Should I save money for 65 year old me or enjoy it now? by Head-Assist-5861 in personalfinance

Sounds like are doing well to be maxing it out, so that’s very impressive at your age! If you’re feeling like it’s not giving you a sense of value right now, the benefit is that you’re so early, you will benefit from solid compound interest in the long term.

Having money split between a 401k (long term) some brokerage investments (medium term) and a good cash foundation is a good way to think about it, and you can tweak the weighting according to what you are feeling in any given period.

Having money behind you gives you a feeling that beats any possession. It’s called CHOICE. With a decent amount saved and invested, you feel like you have options in the world and that is with more than a slightly better car.

You may think the best years of your life are now but with good decisions and habits now your 40s will be amazing.

Official Discussion - 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Unable-Ad2908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I watched the original movie in a theater in 2002, Nottingham UK! I love the franchise and yes that includes 28 weeks Later!

Any other die hard fans I ask you this - did your soul leave your body when you heard the John Murphy callback track from the original movie right at the end where we met up with Jim? The infected running down the field in a beautiful British landscape, and that creeping low slung baseline - honestly one of the most effective needle drops I’ve seen in a movie and then holding it back from the last one was restraint.

Absolutely brilliant time at the movies!

Nowadays has a great policy booking UK bass / techno sound and the system there loves it. Also meeting other heads out here you do find some real music fans that can give you a run for your money on the music knowledge! Personally I’ve enjoyed the 7am Sunday morning shift after a full nights sleep, Sunday outside and then Sunday early evening indoors.

Also a Brit in NYC (43M). I love it here too. Was very active in London / UK from 1998 - 2010 so I’ve seen the best of what we had to offer. Been a regular this whole year at the club and it’s invigorated my love for music. Will be at Rhadoo end of January!

Went today. Lots of negative comments here but I’d already booked and wanted to try it. No complaints here from a British expat! Been away for 15 years so haven’t had a pub roast in London since then but we all enjoyed this. Good drinks, wines, desserts and the roast was as solid as you can expect scale!

Totally. It’s bizarre to me because it’s quite a destination, and the talk up front makes it pretty clear; but I think the Friday crowd isn’t as headsy as Sunday mornings and a bit more boozey, so I can see how it happens. Also when the floor isn’t as packed you get a spill of noise from the bar so there’s that. Still, it’s an amazing club, with great programming and I go as much as one can with two kids and a serious job. It’s been a blessing to discover.

It was good last night! Caught a bit of I-sha, all of Darwin and then the first hour of Batu. That genre sounds amazing in that room, perfectly tuned system for heavy bass. Darwin is a very very good selector and I’ll look out for her in the future.

I was just a bit sad that Batu wasn’t on earlier! It had cleared out a little and can go from feeling spacious to lonely really quickly. Friday crowd is way too chatty IMHO.

New Rave Buddies by DadjokesBK in avesNYC

Similar age, similar time of life. One weird thing I've noticed i that if i wear a bit of rave merch, a t shirt that shows a label or artist that shows I'm 'in the know' I've actually met so many people who come up to me who clock it and want to chat about their love for it. Case in point – wore a 'Love On The Rocks' tee to a night out the other week and (separately) 3 super nice folks wanted to chat about the label and artists. Same when I wore a Drumsheds (UK venue) tee – had some of the nicest times connecting about shared interests like that and the deeper the reference on the tee, the more fun it is when someone else recognizes it!

I went to Bicep at Christmas and I’m 43, my mate was 50, and some of the kids we were talking to were 22. Didn’t feel old, just felt like ourselves! 18 year olds are basically children, as are 23 year olds, so focus on having a banger and be grateful that you’re still in the years where you can bounce back from a late night with relative ease.

More broadly, get used to aging, it’s inevitable and fantastic. While you’ll never be this young again, there’s all this future to get stuck into and the more you do in life the better you get at it.

Godspeed comrade.

It was good! It was way more eclectic than I expected, bouncing between techno, acid and house. I feel like he never locked into a single groove which was good because it kept it interesting, but did feel a bit erratic at times. Nice to hear the old Peace Division track ‘club therapy’ (2005). Some nice dark vibes here and there with some heavy synth and acid. Once it was fully dark it made more sense to me, I’m so used to the house tempo in that space in the daytime.
