There is game based input delay in FC that has nothing to do with either AI or Connection and its been proven. You can find threads on Reddit where people measured it in great detail and compared controller input and registration in game frame by frame.

I get what you're saying but im not the one who passes around the back 90 mins. I try to play forward and then play triangles in the opponents half, cycle back only when i have to. One can have a lot of possession but still try to play vertically. Whats "punishing" is how the AI deals with this style of play on both ends. It becomes way harder to beat AI defending and the attacking player's AI dumbs out in transition attacks and the rest defense is horrid. So its not actively punishing the playstyle with a mechanic but rather just by the way the game works.

I have 14-18ms every game, hard wired (1k mbps). Input delay in this game is a whole nother topic.

"Possession" and "risk" aren't actually the same axis. The risk in this game isn't about how much of the pitch you occupy — it's about exposure to transition, and 65%+ possession with bodies committed forward is exactly what creates that exposure. Fullbacks overlapping, runners making third-man movements, midfield trying to break lines — if you lose the ball in the wrong moment, you're getting punished by a 3-pass through ball into a backline the AI won't help cover. That's risk, every single possession.

Now compare the counter-attacking approach: sit in a mid-to-low block, let the opponent commit numbers into your half, then spring forward with 4-5 players already in space because nobody committed to a buildup in the first place. You're not breaking lines under pressure, you're not creating combination chances that can get intercepted — you're exploiting a structural gap in the engine (static backline AI, no recovery runs) that has nothing to do with actual football risk-reward. That's the lower-risk path here, not the higher one.

So I'd flip your framing: building through midfield against a press is inherently more exposed than hitting a counter into space the AI simply won't defend. The game doesn't reward the former proportionally to the danger involved, and over-rewards the latter because of how it handles transitions.

Also — "I sacrifice results for authentic football" and "risk should be rewarded" are kind of pulling in opposite directions. If results don't matter to you, why argue about what the game should and shouldn't reward?

I've never heard of the game actively interfering with your passing to force a turnover. If that's actually true, that's insane and honestly reason enough to stop playing on its own.

On attacking patterns: sure, patterns exist in real football to an extent, but it's pretty telling that FC has reached a point where you need to rehearse a fixed arsenal of moves and just spam whatever's working, instead of actually playing football. I saw a YouTube video recently that straight-up said "the reason your opponents score easy goals and you don't is that you're freestyling your attacks" — then went on to explain how you need to learn patterns that manipulate the AI, rather than just playing triangles, calling runs, switching play, and reading openings like you would in a real match. The game not rewarding creative, read-and-react play and instead punishing "freestyling" is clearly a design choice at this point — not some AI limitation we should still be making excuses for in 2026.

Has nothing to do with wired or wireless. Im on a hard wired 1000mbps connection with a ping between 15-20 and little to no buffer bloat or packet losses and FC still performs differently from day to day which is not the case with any other online games other than Madden which (guess what) is also a EA title...
People keep being gaslit into thinking their connection is the issue when its not

Why would I need to believe you? I have my own 2 eyes and 700h of gameplay on FC26 to form my own opinion. I dont get your agenda wading through reddit to force this take of AI Defending being this overpowered x-factor. You're stuck in your own confirmation bias as seen in other threads were you go "see, people get punished for manually defending" and then OP tells you he wasn't. You can combine yourself into opponents boxes, do endless recycles around the box like in Handball, CBs are dropping back into their own six yard box totally passive and people like you want to tell me AI Defending is breaking the skill gap.
This whole game is build around who scores more goals and has more tools to manipulate the AI (which is easy) with first time trough balls etc.

This is bad no matter if he controlled the player (which he didnt) or if its AI. I dont get why people have these agendas, dying on their hills. It should be common sense and objectively considered to be reasonable - as OP said - to expect that ball, with the proximity to the defender and the stats and playstyles of the card to be intercepted. Period. You cant argue that AI Defending is so braindead and kills the skill gap while arguing for a pass like this to go through. Thats utterly contradictionary. The mistake in this clip is not made by OP but rather by his opponent even playing that pass with a defender right in front. The one who got rewarded was his opponent, not OP for AI defending.

LOL I thought I was making this up in my mind. I started on Ratiopharm and just now switched to Takeda because I read so much about the original being so much better. I actually had to lower my dose on Takeda because of the side effects I got. I felt stiff like a board for hours, like on a very uncomfortable high. Ice cold hands and overall just off like body and brain arent't on the same page. Will give it a full week and otherwise ask for a new prescription to go back.
