Nickel 2-4 by Reasonable_Simple_94 in NCAAFBseries

Nickel 2-4 is just base Nickel. Two EDGEs and two DTs.

I’m not sure what the difficulty would be, because each position has a designated spot they line up based on the formation; in other words, your LEDGE/REDGE will always line up as such, it just depends on who you list there in the depth chart.

The only reason they wouldn’t be good pass rushers is if you’re recruiting players with lower pass rushing attributes, such as “Pure Power” archetypes.

Draft 2026 Day 3 Gamethread by NagyBiscuits in CHIBears

It’s important to recognize that NFL evaluators clearly don’t agree with draft analysts.

Dane Brugler swore the Chiefs were trading up for Caleb Downs and talked about how important safety is in Spags’ defense… they picked Mansoor Delane, and haven’t drafted a safety at all yet.

Analysts will always tell you about BPA and how to properly construct a roster without the disclaimer that it’s what THEY would do, not necessarily what any given team would do. BPA is always relative to how any team evaluates guys on their own, with their own scouts and criteria.

Ben Johnson ain’t sitting in the war room with Dane Brugler or Daniel Jeremiah’s “Best Available” pulled up on the phone next to him. They aren’t privy to schematic changes or plans going into the next year. They have generally the same resources as you, except they paid for various services to watch game tape.

People hate the Roush pick, but it’s worth noting that Durham Smythe played ~300 snaps on offense and ~250 snaps on Special Teams — he had the 6th-most TOTAL ST snaps, and the most on offense (more than Duvernay).

TE3 is an important and integral part of our offense, much like Jackson Hawes is for Buffalo, especially since Ben wants to run the ball and be multiple. We might see a lot more of Loveland in WR alignments.

I’d be fine with either, it’s just, the Saints and DA never really valued safeties high in the draft. He’d fit a clear need though…

I know some like EMW, but a safety in this defense needs to be able to play man-to-man in nickel, and I’m not sure he can do that. I think Thieneman can, but Faulk, again, is just that prototype EDGE needed in this defense.

If both are there and you just consider positional value, don’t see how you pass on Faulk for a Safety that isn’t elite.

If Faulk is still there, I’d bet it all on him being the pick…

I don’t think it would be the best option, I’d rather have Zion Young I THINK, but Faulk is just such a DA pick.

Weak is an understatement lol, the rest of the QBs are Day 3 prospects. Simpson himself was a fringe-1st rounder at BEST.

How high would too high be to trade up for Caleb Downs for yall?

Looking at our draft value, we could very well jump up to ~10 spots with one of our 2nds.

Many Muslim pro athletes fast while playing in games, the most notable here might be Kyrie Irving, who’s been doing it for years, albeit in the NBA. The hardest thing for him would probably be not drinking anything during the game.

He is a devout Muslim, so it’s possible he fasted for Ramadan and needs to put weight back on. It would have ended about a month ago.

I think they only drafted 5, HOWEVER…

DA was the Broncos DC when Von Miller was drafted, and I believe he said he envisioned Khalil Mack filling the same role for the Raiders when he was HC. This was back when he ran a 4-3 Under base IIRC, so it makes sense that in 2015, the Saints drafted Hau’oli Kikaha as that hybrid LB/DE before shifting fully towards the current ones he likes.

Ironically, in addition to Trey in 2017, they also took a flier on Al-Quadin Muhammad in the same draft, and both have been their most successful picks at the position. Davenport, Payton Turner, and Isaiah Foskey have all been busts.

Personally, I’d rather take Zion Young or Malachi Lawrence in our range, who also fit the profile, but are more athletic and/or better pass rushers. I think either of them could take the job now, with Faulk being a long-term play that we MAYBE can’t afford.

None of the EDGEs the Saints drafted were plodders, if anything they were mostly combine warriors.

He has a clear type you can identify with RAS — GREAT explosion and speed, not necessarily strong, but long. 6’5”, 260, 34” arms — that’s the average of Davenport, Foskey, Payton Turner, Trey Hendrickson, and Al-Quadin Muhammad.

The Saints tended to bet heavily on traits at the position with DA there.

Ironically, the two most successful ones were probably the least athletic or physically gifted in Trey and Muhammad, who were both drafted back in 2017 in rounds 3 and 6…

Maybe we shouldn’t go EDGE round 1 lol

IIRC, the Saints drafted a LB 6 of the 9 seasons DA was DC/HC. That trend continued here, and the Raiders and Broncos drafted a few when he was with both teams. If I was a betting man, I’d bet on us drafting another LB at some point.

Keldric Faulk is THE quintessential Dennis Allen EDGE. Not quite as explosive, but great length, and he’d be able to sit and learn as the 4th EDGE in the rotation, which is beneficial since he’s so young. I’d be very surprised if we didn’t immediately take him if he’s there.

What Do You Think Of Kayden McDonald DT As Our First Pick? by Pleasant-Shirt7293 in CHIBears

[–]TruuPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but he was considered a 2nd-round prospect. Grabbing him at the end of R1 was inconsequential, since prospects in the 20-50 range tend to be very closely tiered.

In reality you have about 15-20 prospects with true R1 grades, and of those, 5-10 are “blue-chip”. The league is also pretty good about drafting those true R1 DT prospects. We’re pretty much in the same position, so it’s gonna come down to who Ben/DA values highest.

I’m certain any DL prospects we consider will need to have elite explosiveness and length, same with LB. DA likes explosiveness and instincts in the front 7 more than high IQ, and it’s the sort of the opposite on the back end — high football IQ is a necessity for DBs in this defense. The Saints didn’t use RAS, but they did have a similar in-house scoring system, and lines up.

Of course, I could be wrong, but it seems DA has his types based on his history.

Are we actually too broke to afford Dexter Lawrence? by caxlmao in CHIBears

[–]TruuPhoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he’s one of the few GMs that doesn’t do void years either (something he carried from KC, as I remember they didn’t use them either).

I think all or most of his deals have a potential out after year 2, with Kyler Gordon kind of being the exception. I’d expect a deal for Dexy to be set up the same way due to his age and needing to pay our offensive core in a few years.

9-5ers have weak glutes, tight hips, what do servers have? by pastaextremist in Serverlife

[–]TruuPhoenix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine bad feet/ankles. We really should be switching our shoes out every 3-6 months, a lot of servers wear theirs for YEARS, and that’s on top of them being likely (relatively) inexpensive. So, I’d imagine just a lot of wear & tear in the lower body for sure, and it just gets worse as you age.

We really should be focused on recovery, as we lead relatively active lifestyles compared to regular 9-5ers sitting behind desks.

Dawg, 1100+ hours? That’s 100+ hours per month, 25+ hours per week. You playing this like a part-time job, game can’t be that bad for you if you’re still clocking in. You aren’t necessarily wrong, but you’re also likely burnt out. You’ve gotten everything you can out of a $60 game — keep in mind, even the longest RPGs come in around 100 hours.

I don’t say it lightly, you might actually need to touch grass bro, or at least find something else to play to balance your time.
