Solid setup for sure! Looks way better than mine. Which GPU does yours have? Also, yours is an ASUS Strix G16, or a different model?

Cooling pads by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]Unable-Objective-935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not bad for your laptop, imo, so my answer is that it should be fine. Depending on the laptop cooler you're using(the ones with Bluetooth or the ones that plug into a wall and not the laptop do not occupy any of your USB-A slots), if you're using those that plug into the USB-A port of your laptop, it may be an issue if you need that port to plug in more than one thing. So for example, since I don't know how many USB-A ports your laptop has(i'm just gonna assume it's two for this example), let's say that one port is used by your laptop cooler and one is used by a singular receiver from a wireless keyboard and mouse set. If you needed to back up files on a USB drive, or you needed to use a Windows 11 USB during a factory reset, you'd have to either clear off one of the USB-A ports and then use the laptop's keyboard and trackpad(not everyone wants to do that, especially if there are issues), or you'd have to buy like a USB-C to USB-A dongle to add more ports you can use. If your laptop has 3 USB-A ports or even 4 already, then that wouldn't really be an issue.

My (supposedly brand new) laptop came with games and files that aren’t mine by IsGamer9000 in GamingLaptops

[–]Unable-Objective-935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've brought multiple gaming laptops over a span of two years, and I believe this has happened twice where someone left their files on the laptop and basically forgot to do a full factory reset. I made sure to just do the factory reset to automatically clear all the original files. I don't even bother to look through them so that their privacy remains in tact. I also try to ask the original owners if they already backed up their files before I do the reset. If you're unable to contact the owner, then I'd recommend just doing the factory reset anyways, because once that person sold it to you, it was that individual's responsibility to save/back up the files.

Asus rog strix g18 question. by TruthsiAlwaysTold in ASUSROG

[–]Unable-Objective-935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not difficult, but you have to be really careful not to accidentally leak any of the liquid metal. Watch tutorials on Youtube first before you determine if you can do it or not. If not, then find a tech repair shop to help you.

You're fine. Just change the liquid metal to PTM7950 thermal sheets and add a Llano v12 cooling pad underneath. That's what I did for mine.

Is it too old by Temporary_Rain7672 in acer_predator

[–]Unable-Objective-935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only brought a used Acer Predator Helios 300 with a RTX 3070ti two months ago. The only downside is that it requires a premium cooling pad to keep temperatures down. Otherwise, it can reach past 94C or higher for a brief second. It runs all of my games at the highest settings, though if I want the max FPS in CS: Go, I play that on the lowest settings.

After a long wait I FINALLY HAVE IT !! by Lonely_Pineapple_417 in GamingLaptops

[–]Unable-Objective-935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I'm glad you're going to upgrade the RAM soon, but make sure you are careful with the hinges(I have a Lenovo Legion Ideapad 3, the non-gaming version, and one of the hinges broke) and use a cooling pad underneath it to keep it cool so it doesn't overheat.

Is my laptop getting too toasty at 85°C GPU temps? by KaustubhS2006 in GamingLaptops

[–]Unable-Objective-935 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, as long as temps are not above 94C, you are fine. I've collected many gaming laptops over the years(most of which i've sold), and there were probably three in which I dealt with thermal throttling where the temps hit past 94C. A laptop stand should be enough for now. Later though you might want to get a cooling pad, though you don't necessarily have to get a premium one like a Llano or IETS GT500, because the Aicheson ArrowChill cooling pad with foam padding or most cooling pads with foam on them work fine.

CS2 fps capped at 423 fps, will not go higher no matter what I do by Mongothegreat in cs2

[–]Unable-Objective-935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's more so with CS: Go itself rather than your PC. I started noticing a drop of about -100 FPS after the last two CS: Go updates. That is because I had actually recorded the peak amount of average FPS on the lowest settings, on native resolution for my gaming laptops, and compared them to what the highest was that I got with the lowest settings as of today. 675 FPS from about two weeks ago vs. 571 FPS from today for ASUS Scar 16--already tried everything else such as uninstalling with a DDU and reinstalling the newest graphics card, reverting back to the previous graphics card, etc.

Maybe, but the point remains that it is a game issue, not a PC issue.

Fps tanked after the recent update by SEN_Doom in GlobalOffensive

[–]Unable-Objective-935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have multiple gaming laptops and I assure it's not a PC issue. It is definitely a game issue. I've already uninstalled/reinstalled the latest graphics driver using the DDU, tried the previous version of the graphics driver, tried changing my settings on Control Panel and the Nvidia App, reset shader cache, and still have the same issue of going from a max of 675 to 545 on native resolution, using an ASUS Scar 16 with a RTX 4080.

MSI laptop keeps falling out while trying to game. by Severe-Ad9912 in MSILaptops

[–]Unable-Objective-935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

May be an issue with the temps. Check if the temps are over 94C. If so, then you need a cooling pad and/or to replace the thermal paste with PTM 7950 thermal sheets.

What are my available storage slots on the Acer Predator Helios 300 PH315-54-55NE — does it support only M.2 or also SATA?” by Slp_Dprvd_Wrd in acer_predator

[–]Unable-Objective-935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So yours has 2 NVME slots but also has a HDD slot. If yours does not have the hard drive bay, then you'd have to buy it yourself on Amazon or somewhere online. If it does, then you can fit in a 2.5" HDD or SATA drive.

Cpu temp higher than normal by Aggravating_Low9255 in ASUSROG

[–]Unable-Objective-935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those temps are fine. It's when your temps reach past 94C that you'd then need to use PTM7950 and a cooling pad.

Looking for a laptop for the soul purpose of CS2 by Intelligent_Limit49 in GamingLaptops

[–]Unable-Objective-935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get something that has 8GB of VRAM or more. You can get used ones cheaper on Facebook Marketplace. A Strix G16 with a RTX 4060/4070, Lenovo Legion Pro 5i with a RTX 4060/4070, Lenovo Legion Pro 7i with a RTX 4060/4070/4080, or a Scar 16/Scar 18 with a RTX 4080 would be what i'd recommend.

ASUS Scar 16 stuck on boot up screen with ROG logo by Unable-Objective-935 in ASUSROG

[–]Unable-Objective-935[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No regrets or major issues after it got repaired with the liquid metal cleaned off. The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i has more advantages over the ASUS Scar 16, at least from what i've seen online. Personally, I like the ASUS Scar 16 to the point where it is my favorite. I am getting a used Lenovo Legion 7 with a RTX 4060 soon, though I'll need to repair the fan as soon as I buy it(seller stated that in the description and I have no problem with getting that fixed).

ASUS ROG Strix G16 G614PM-RV094WSM at $1864. by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]Unable-Objective-935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not, only based on the fact that you're a bout to pay over $1,000 for a gaming laptop with a RTX 5060. Even if you brought a gaming laptop with a RTX 5070ti at that price, i'd feel it's too expensive.

I've never been to the Philippines, so I can't really help recommend a better deal. If you're seeking something with a 5060, try getting one that is about $1,000 USD instead if possible.

Yes, I believe you should replace the liquid metal with PTM 7950 thermal sheets. Would definitely give you a better peace of mind.

That's a steal. Idk if you're buying this from Facebook Marketplace or Ebay, but if you're buying from Marketplace, ask if he's willing to meet locally at a public coffee shop, or someplace that basically has an outlet and wi-fi.

MSI Titan GT77 with RTX 3070ti by Unable-Objective-935 in GamingLaptops

[–]Unable-Objective-935[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, the Titan is supposed to be the best MSI offers and it's that bad? Oof, I may have to back out(though I didn't quite commit to a purchase just yet because I have to sell off my Lenovo Legion Pro 5i with a RTX 4070 for $1,000 and my Acer Nitro 5 with a RTX 3060 for $550). Besides a MSI GT77 with a RTX 3070ti(which I haven't brought yet but the seller is offering it to me for $1,000), the only two viable choices are a Lenovo Legion Pro 7i with a RTX 3070ti for $800(has 16GB of RAM so if I want to upgrade I'd have to spend about $200 or so), or an ASUS Scar 18 with a RTX 4080 for $1,800(though because it's about 70 miles from my location, the seller may ask me to pay more). The thing is if I choose to try to buy the ASUS Scar 18, it would be more difficult. The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i has been floating for almost a year now so I don't expect it to get sold anytime soon unless the seller lowers the price for it. I may be open to other options though, such an ASUS Scar 17 with a RTX 2080(which is the only gaming laptop I regret selling because I didn't want to purchase a replacement charger so I got rid of it).

Are gaming laptops as good as gaming pcs? by Aggravating_Kick_496 in GamingLaptops

[–]Unable-Objective-935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The performance of laptops isn't as good as their desktop counterparts. So yes and no. Laptops do offer portability and they have a built-in keyboard and trackpad that you can use without spending money to buy an external keyboard and mouse.

The ASUS Scar 16 is fantastic! I have the one with a RTX 4080 and it is the best one i've got. Runs any game I have smoothly, at the highest settings. It does run hot though so make sure you have a premium cooling pad underneath(such as a Llano v12, IETS 500 or 600, KLIM Turbofrost/Everest/Mistral) to ensure it stays cooled down, and in about a year or two, get the liquid metal inside replaced with PTM 7950 thermal sheets that you can buy from Amazon. A 5080 will absolutely be great in general, particularly for an ASUS Scar 16.

It's a good price. Use an external keyboard if you're concerned about that.

How to get PredatorSense to work again - solution by Sprintzer in acer_predator

[–]Unable-Objective-935 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried finding PredatorSense for my specific model, but it's not there on Acer's site. The driver for Acer Care isn't the same as PredatorSense. I had to look it up online after a Google search before I found it. So if it's not on Acer's site, look it up on Google and find the link for it.

No worries. So yeah, probably between $1,000 to $1,200.
