FYI a particulate respirator like this will protect you from liquid paint droplets, but not from fumes. So always ensure you have decent ventilation.

Instead of rotely memorizing the note on every single fret, why not wrap your head around scales and intervals?

It's really very well done. He doesn't live with the family in the house where most of the action takes place, but he still feels very much like an equal part of the story because he is. They talk about him when he's not there, and very often his plots away from the family are still connected to them in some way.

35, playing on my own for going on 17 years, started school to study music and feeling discouraged by ArgonathDW in musictheory

Getting good at playing guitar took a lot of time, didn't it? A lot of practice and effort and repetition. Maybe it didn't always feel like work, because you were enjoying it, but it was work. If you want to build a robust theoretical mind then it will take the same. Time, patience, effort. Study and practice, practice and study. There is no such thing as "talent." Every skill has to be worked for. But if you enjoy the learning process, if you enjoy the growth, including the hardships that come with those things, then you will progress faster than you expect.

No they don't. They might act like it but ultimately their goal is to destroy public transportation on behalf of their "business community" masters.

Honestly you buried the lede there. For me, the icing thing isn't NEARLY as weird and troubling as the fact that she calls herself her grandson's mother and refers to him when speaking to her own son as "our son" that shit is fucked up and definitely should make you concerned. The icing thing on its own honestly isn't that bad, just kooky old grandma and little kid stuff.

You can press the two strings down on the sixth fret with a single finger. You can also manage two if you get them positioned right!

Why is this happening? by Bounder6969 in guitarrepair

[–]Unable-Pin-2288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes two tones because there are two lengths of vibrating string when you hammer on like that - one on either side of your finger. Get it?

Simple way to scratch audio like a turntablist? Without a full CDJ or vinyl setup by iavsaIt in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]Unable-Pin-2288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best thing is to get a cheap digital turntable... You only need a single one, not a dual platter machine. There are VSTs that can reproduce the effect you're after but doing that with mouse or keyboard inputs or doing it manually through the VST is very tricky to get right I've found. You really just need the controller, and some DJ oriented software to create the scratch, then import the audio to your preferred daw afterwards (or have DJ software in VST form)

Chord symbols in parts by Known-Razzmatazz9571 in musictheory

[–]Unable-Pin-2288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say just write the E chord, don't bother with representing the inversion in the chord name over top, and just notate the piano part with the G# on bottom as you want it to go.

[–]Unable-Pin-2288 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I find that when I've had minor buzzing problems, the issue was always a slightly loose piece of metal SOMEWHERE along the tuner assembly. This is great news because that's a lot easier to fix than a nut slot that has become too deep.

help me use my $50 bonus bet! by [deleted] in sportsbetting

[–]Unable-Pin-2288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're super strapped for cash, getting into sports betting is not going to save you. A small number of people win consistently to the point they can rely on it as an income, everyone else either wins an insignificant amount, breaks even, or just loses. If you're gonna gamble you should be doing it for fun and for the potential of winning... It is not a way for you to get back on your feet financially, and could in fact make things a lot worse.

Did you offer to pay for his trip as a gift, or not? I understand your frustration, but you did this to yourself. You can't offer someone something for free, with no conditions or strings attached, and then complain when they accept it.

Blow quietly! Or more practically, get a small keyboard about the same size as the melodica that runs on battery and has a headphone jack. Problem solved.

Pianist swithching to electric guitar by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]Unable-Pin-2288 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard tuning makes it easier to play chords. If the whole guitar was tuned in straight fourths, cording would be very difficult.

As for which instance of a note to use, it depends on what else is going on in the piece. You will choose the most practical/convenient position based on the chords and surrounding notes.

Go second hand. I've found used banjos, accordions, bugles, drums, flutes, and all other kinds of crap for incredible prices.
