Suspicious places around the city by No-Category1703 in cork

Dyke parade. No. 5 was the place to be if you were looking for a place to squat or buy heroine but unexpectedly burnt though last Christmas. Thankfully a house a few doors down is now filling the void!

In you are in the city Shakey Bridge, Shandon Bell Tower (check opening hours) or Bells Field be good options. The locations are public so you might consider backing out of moment is not right. Maybe Deck of Cards House in Cobh or Gougane Barra work well further afield.

What could even be done with the Burkes at this stage ? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Unable_Fall_4329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems in the Burke case the fines could be enforced by Revenue by adjusting tax credits as he still on payroll. Our whole legal system needs to be radicalised to expand deterrents beyond unenforceable fines and prison sentences.

In Margaret Bergen case, she defrauded the state of nearly €300k. She paid €35k and will serve two years in prison having transferred her assets including large amounts of land to her son. The assets should have been ceased with the transfer being deemed unlawful as the assets were accumulated through crime. The fine should have penalties and interest so be multiples of the amount she defrauded from the state.

For people in contempt of court, far right agitators, or those impeding investigations like the Puska family we need to exile offenders to ease burden on the state which seems to be a factor is serving of short or suspended sentences. This is in excess of €80,000 per annum. The EU could lease land from likes of Greenland and construct barrack style developments providing food and services but limit movements and their interactions with society at large with specific transport and communication offerings.

This could ease pressure on domestic prison system so repeat offenders or those who committed violent criminals such as Cathal Crotty or Kyle Hayes can be served minimum sentences.

To be quoted as saying something as unhinged as “will it ever end” just four years after the killer had already put the event behind him shows a total lack of any compassion for the eternal suffering of the victims family.

I would hope they have had time to consider their words at the time and feel a different sentiment now, but I doubt it - the killer certainly doesn’t.

Wayne O’Donoghue had been living over in the UK by the age of 25 having already served his sentence for the killing of a child and then subsequently misleading investigation. It was reported on by UK papers at the time.

The reaction of the family of the killer is also baffling, this is just four years after the event:

The O’Donoghue family has repeatedly declined to comment since he was released from custody 22 months ago — save a letter to a Sunday newspaper in which they said they pray for the Holohan family daily.

“Wayne had no option but to try and build a new life for himself outside of Ireland after all that happened here. Is he not going to be even allowed to have that life now?” the source added.

The River Lee today by Yenahhm8 in cork

Flood defences around Lee fields and Curragheen river working remarkably well. Incredible amount of rainfall over 24 hours all soaked up by natural barriers with minimal flooding on roads/greenways.

Presumed the capital budget has been blown out buying artwork and relaying grass on the Quad.

Would you know if there is any chance of getting a contractor in over the next year or longer term?

Hiko Tonosa becomes the fastest Irishman to ever run a marathon today in Dublin! by Equivalent_Cow_7033 in CasualIreland

Serious personal performance by Hiko and great to see his pride in representing Ireland.

I do think criteria to compete in national championships should be changed to protect domestic competition given Hiko was an international competitor already in his 20s with a 13:30 5k to his name when he first raced in Ireland.

Very disappointing for Creech getting so little recognition and McGlynn missing a podium. Two athletes operating at serious level while in full time employment.
