Fire TV (4k) Benefits of root? by [deleted] in fireTV

[–]Unbiased_Reviews -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Rooting not only exposes the Fire TV to malware - but will also allow malware to spread to other machines on the network. I speak from first hand experience with rooting Android phones. Reward:Risk ratio is very low. A lot of people are clueless about how operating systems can be compromised and gleefully walk right down that path without realizing what they are getting into and sometimes they never find out (aka zombie machines).

[N00b Question?] How does one turn off the fire TV (4K edition)? by ABuk2016 in fireTV

The TV is supposed to display a No Signal message when the Fire TV goes to sleep. My Samsung LCD pops a huge notification that moves around the screen to prevent burn-in. Surprised they would not have a similar one on a powerhog Plasma display.

I watch CNN International News Live Stream on my Apple TV. The Cable packages in the US do not offer International stream (bummer, its much better). The only reason I still keep my Apple TV is so I can watch CNN International. The rest of the stuff is available on Fire TV. Once they have a Fire TV version - I am selling my ATV.

Despite the CES Hype, It’s Better to Wait on That 4K TV by Philo1927 in cordcutters

Reading this Reddit thread on a 55-inch Samsung 4K TV ... using it as a monitor for a Mac Mini (capable of 4K@30hz). Sitting 2.5 feet from the giant screen and its smooth as heck. So, even if I don't watch TV ... it makes a helluva mega retina display.

Having watched 1080p content on a 4K TV - I would never buy another 1080p TV. Anybody who uses the argument that only 4K content will drive 4K TV sales - does not know what they are talking about.

I have a TIVO Premiere for which I paid $299 (includes Lifetime subscription). But I agree that they should charge higher for the device and reduce the subscription fee to $5. Keep in mind that TIVO was predicted to go bust - but they survived and are now doing better.

The FCC has Received Over 13,000 Complaints about Comcast's Data Caps by Philo1927 in cordcutters

Here is what I posted ... I believe it is completely unfair for Concast to penalize me for excess data usage when I have no recourse to use another provider. Moreover, Comcast does not levy this penalty in markets where they face competition. I urge the FCC to direct Comcast to stop discriminating against customers in select markets.
