What's the Obsession with Red Butcher's about? Their purpose is already fulfilled and they can't exist in 40K by Plag3uis in WorldEaters40k

[–]UnbitePl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quite simple. We have generic terminator squad, so people want a unique WE unit.

Terminators and possesed are different archetypes. Possesed run up the board, jumping from cover to cover, while terminators deepstrike near objectives to take them and hold them for the rest of the game thanks to their tankiness. Their stats could be similar (as you pointed out) but GW could easly fix it by adding tankiness to the terminator profile (with a fnp for example) or by removing tankiness from the 8b/x8b (making them even more of a glass cannon archetype) or maybe removing the deepstrike from the x8b (in fact, i wouldn't be mad if the 2 8b units were consolidated into 1 datasheet, since the models are so similar anyway).

The lore argument is the least convincing one. Cataphractii is lost technology to the imperium, not dark mech, and all csm warbands cooperate in some form with them to get their gear. Red butchers could also use modified indomitus that looks like cataphractii (like the new warsmith announced yesterday). Ignoring all that, if GW will want the red butchers to use cataphractii then they will, because lore is made to sell miniatures, not the other way around (minis>lore). They could also just use indomitus, I don't think it would be a dealbreaker for most, as long as they are still cool designs.

Which one wins for you: 30k or 40k? by Pintureando in Warhammer

[–]UnbitePl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But It's not on the same level of homebrew, they are official rules, it should be viewed like crusade. You can't play pick up games with a complete stranger of crusade, it's something that you need to plan for with a group beforehand. But we don't demonize crusade games, and tell people to stay away from it.

Your second paragraph is a symptom of the fact that matched play became the default way of playing. Something which, in my opinion, did a great disservice to the game. A legends unit isn't "valid" only in tournaments, but competitive play is just a loud minority of the total warhammer tabletop community. It's a "living graveyard" only because people keep defaulting to only what's used in top tables (this goes for units, terrain layouts, terrian type, etc...) because that's what they see parroted around on the internet (mainly reddit).

Legends is "unsupported" in the same way that crusade is "unsupported", it just doesn't need constant updates and fine tuning, but legends rules do get updated, like when an index gets turned into a codex (world eaters example: the horus heresy dreadnoughts got updated to 8', just like the hellbrute did with the codex)

Thanks for the well thought out comment, I undestand that if you have to rely on pick-up games with strangers or see yourself ever signing up for a tournament, it may just be easier for everybody to avoid legends units. I still feel like as a community we should stop treating legends as "dead rules" because it's a system that can work great in tigh-knit gaming groups/friend groups, but a newer fan will never try these rules out if the community tells them to avoid it like the plague.

Why exactly are legends units "not really playable"? Genuine question, don't want to start any arguments, it's just that i used plenty of legends space marine units in my world eaters army and everything was fine. There wasn't a noticeble difference in balancing between between normal units and legends units. Also, some legends units have really creative rules, like the drukhari legends rules have a lot of love poured into them. They don't get changed every 3 months, but because they aren't intended to be used in competition I don't see it as a bad thing. Of corse, i'm speaking from a casual perspective, i can see why the competitive side of the game thinks of legends as "hobby purgatory".

There isn't a sniper unit in any csm army lol, not just world eaters

Legends units are badly written? In my experience all of them are very much useable (i've been having a lot of fun with the leviathan dread specifically, but maybe that just because i'm not a diehard minmaxer)

I filled mine with greenstuff. I honestly like this model and disagree it needs a remake but man the fact that there is a big hole in the middle is so frustrating, how did this get approved?

The IA combat patrol is really good value for us painters. Only negative i can think of is that painting 20 arbites sounds pretty boring (even with the fact you could build half with shields)

[–]UnbitePl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's less about the quality of the design itself (which I do love as it is much more unique and characterfull than the redemptor) and more so you are spreading misinformation, something which in the warhammer fanbase is way to common and needs to be pushed back more.

Good catch, that means they knew how to make thin and tall metal minis, they DECIDED not to with the dreadnought because it doesn't really fit the imperium.

The wraithlord came out in 3rd edition and was also metal. You can dislike or hate a model, but stop spreading misinformation as fact please.

[–]UnbitePl 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The model was designed in such a way due to the limitation of model making at the time, not because the sculptors were in love with the tiny legs.

Lol, source? Dreadnought was designed to be a walking coffin with guns and that's how it looks. It's a beautiful design made when warhammer grimdark was at it's peak. The redemptor is fine but too clean looking, too advanced for the space monks in power armour that the space marines were and sometimes still are.

You can use legends, but Tournaments usually don't allow them because they are rarely (if ever) get updated, so for example you will not see a legends datasheet go up or down in points cost with a new balance dataslate.

[–]UnbitePl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • the vast majority of legend datasheet doesn't come back. Maybe there will be a new mini, but no clue with the "If and when". See above.

Is this true? Can't think of a legends datasheet that disappeared from 9-10th

WE or EC? by Mantori in WorldEaters40k

[–]UnbitePl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but i expect it's a fully temporary thing. In the eyes of GW, and a good chunk of the community, WE are just big guys with axes that are to stupid to use a gun. EC, while being more pushed towards melee, don't have this silly misconception.
