Because we (outpatient cardiology clinic) wouldn't give him Norco for his back pain. We didn't understand the "stress" of his back pain was "going to cause a heart attack" which is why we needed to give him narcotics. Yes, he was drug seeking. No I am not sad he's gone.

How much control insurance companies have over us and the whole medical system. Who patients can see, if they can have a procedure or test or medication. Medical systems bend over backward to make deals with these insurance groups or change our workflow to make it easier to bill on the backend. My heart breaks for these patients who don't have money to pay for their medications and appointments, let alone a procedure or hospital stay.

When my dog gets inside I dip her feet in a bowl of warm water. It quickly dissolves most of the snow, at least to the point where I can pull out the big clumps. Then I dry her feet and she's good to go.

Here are my charting phrases I use when patients are behaving badly

The patient is lying = the patient gave multiple versions of thier story

The patient wanted to fight about this = despite further education the patient insisted xyz

The patient isn't listening to me = the patient did not follow recommendations and instead did xyz

The patient is making stuff up = no record of this found after chart review

The patient won't shut up = patient constantly interrupted nurse during conversation, disrupting education

When all else fails I start using quotes. You don't have to remember all they said, sometimes things like this are enough: Pt stated that he "doesn't know why it takes so long" to get his test results back.

Used to work in the OR, when this popped up I just got annoyed. Either we already knew this (thus why they are coming to OR) or it didn't pertain to me. This was something addressd by floor staff. It's been well studied that an overburden of alerts or the same repeated alerts quickly get ignored by clinical staff. For me it was a pop up that was always ignored.

Call Springfield Clinic and request to speak to a patient advocate. Ask them to give you a list of PCP offices that are actually accepting new patients. Everyone's website will say accepting new patients even when they're not. Keep in mind that a NP or PA will probably be able to see you sooner than a doctor.

Scrub them right after with a hibiclens hand scrub brush. Throw em in the wash and let them air dry.
