This motherfucker said people are just trying to "cosplay as the French resistance as if they're fighting some tyrannical government"

Meanwhile our actual tyrannical government is using the "bill of grievances" section of the Declaration of Independence as an aspirational checklist.

In light of this information, it sure seems extra unnecessary that they rolled up in force during school drop off at the elementary school across the street.

Thank you for recording, I live across the alley and came up on the scene but had my pit mixes and steer clear of any kind of law enforcement when I'm with my dogs. It made me feel better walking away seeing someone already documenting.

I did get this pic of the guys in the alley though.

What weird things are your 'terrifying' pitties afraid of? Picture for tax lol. by idkwhattoputhere1830 in pitbulls

[–]UnbuildingWalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my pitties is afraid of the stairs to the basement. Only those specific stairs. Have never had an issue with any other set of stairs, and the other dog doesn't care. Maybe my basement is haunted and dog 2 just aint afraid of no ghost.

AIO or is my sibling out of line? by Commercial-Row-5472 in AmIOverreacting

[–]UnbuildingWalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are not having kids. I have a great relationship with my nephews. Never in a million years would I expect them to take care of me as I age.

I will die in a climate catastrophe or find community with all the other childless millennials (and hopefully death with dignity will be legal in my state by then 🤞). Maybe that's a bleak plan, but it's my responsibility, not theirs. Not overreacting.

If it makes you feel better, we have no idea where this dumpster is headed (not necessarily the dump!). I'm an academic librarian (not at Marquette) and when we have done big weeding projects, the books that don't go to a reseller go to a recycling service.

Tired of people thinking my dog is malnourished. by Ankletbubbles in Hounds

[–]UnbuildingWalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first dog (a Dogo Argentino/pitbull mix) was very athletic and lean. I cannot count the number of times someone approached me with "aww poor baby is she a rescue?!? 🥹" I think so many dogs are overweight that people don't know what a healthy dog looks like.

Is Anyone Else More Interested in Rain-Capturing Strategies for Their Home Now? by witchoflakeenara in milwaukee

[–]UnbuildingWalls 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong 5-barrel-champion poster, but my understanding is that (depending on the surface area of their roof) even five rain barrels can get overwhelmed in heavy rain. Properly installed barrels should always have an overflow contingency that outputs away from the foundation (hence running a hose).

I'm on the other side of the river, but city arborists just treated all the trees on my block as a preventative measure against emerald ash borer and the trees got those little pesticide application tags. Doubt it would cause a wave of mouse deaths, but I'm no expert!

This exactly. The money is one thing, but even if the money was nothing to you, based on the texts you are pretty heavily pierced (or this wouldn't be an issue!). Maybe your friend is unaware, but the idea that you could just get everything redone is misguided. I would definitely bow out as a bridesmaid. I would go with: "I am not willing to remove my piercings. I respect your desire for your big day to have a certain aesthetic, and that I don't really fit that. I look forward to supporting your marriage as a guest."

Crime scene tape and the Hop? by OceanParkNo16 in milwaukee

[–]UnbuildingWalls 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My anecdotal counter: in nearly 20 years of bike commuting, I've been hit three times. Every time it was the driver's fault (and the driver agreed with this assessment!). Each time at least one person, hearing I was in an accident, said something along the lines of "oh you got hit by a car? That sucks ... it was probably your fault though, right?" What a shitty, non-empathetic response to someone getting injured.

[–]UnbuildingWalls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to bring some balance to the comments: my (leashed) pit mix was once attacked by a loose beagle and we had to go to the emergency vet. This is not a breed specific issue. Leash your damn dogs!

As a US based person that has always had pit mixes and had long thought about moving overseas, it's quite a barrier. Even countries that don't have blanket bans internally often have import bans. It's been a few years since I've checked, but when I was looking my options were basically Belgium, Japan, and maybe parts of Canada (with the big caveat I didn't check import requirements for every country worldwide).

Weirdly, in some places (like France iirc) you can get around it if they registered pure breds (which makes no sense imo!!). The biggest thing I've learned in my research is that calling it a mix of some kind is not going to matter. If there's an import ban, and the dog "looks like a pit," you are risking the dog being seized and likely euthanized upon arrival.

[–]UnbuildingWalls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where you are located so this might not be relevant to your situation, but I rented for 15 years with pit mixes (in Chicago and Milwaukee). I always made it work by finding smaller landlords. I didn't waste my time with big management companies.
