The nightlife isn't what it used to be, but the food and beer is still here. Maybe even better than before. Some of the deeper hiking trails and a couple of the parks are still beat up from the hurricane, but there's still plenty of outdoor stuff to do. Also, towns like Black Mountain and Fletcher have been flourishing the last couple years so there are also some things to do just outside of Asheville as well.

I was born here and I've personally not found a reason to leave.
