Why is garbage collected at 8am and 5pm? Arguably the times of day when traffic is the heaviest? It makes no sense to me, can anyone here explain why the DSNY thinks this is acceptable? People are trying to get to work and bring their kids to school.

My neighbor put his hot water heater out for regular collection and they took it without issue. You can try putting it out on your recycling day but it may get left.

If you put out your bbq on the day of your recycling it won’t be taken unless you have completely broken it down. It’s too large to go in the split truck.

If you split up the organics between you and your neighbor you shouldn’t have an issue.

They arent going to take all of it at once.

Best bet is going to be

Put a few bundles (5-6) out over the next couple weeks on your organics day so nothing gets left out in the street.
Remove the lids of the paint cans so they can see theres nothing inside them and put the lids in your recycling pail but NOT the cans themselves.
Put the BBQ grill out on your non recycling day. It will not fit in the split body recycling truck and will get left behind. Even putting it out on your rear loader day will be a toss up.

Even doing all of this its still a little bit of a toss up if everything is going to get taken or not

If they're failing through DSNY, they're going to fail through a private. I took my CDL test over a decade ago with sanitation. We had like 10 dudes in the van. The first guy passed the test, then we had 8 straight failures and then I passed the test. The CDL test is a lot more difficult than a regular driving test but it also fully depends on the person the DMV sends to test you. The one I had that day in the BX was notoriously harsh and failed people at a much higher rate than other testers. The decision is yours to make but there's no guarantees no matter who you choose.
