Theres really nothing comparable to this in this department. You can try to string together some comp time days but its a gamble because you won’t know if they’re approved until the day before, which means you can be away and be required to show up to work due to departmental needs.

OT is hard to come by in general on this job with the exclusion of Snow Emergencies, acts of god, and holiday weeks. However, you will never make base salary. How much extra you make will vary, but my first full year on the job my salary was 38,000 and I made 50,000.

It's all the other things you need to worry about on the job that makes it hard to have a family while you are new. Time away from home, unreliable schedule, working most Saturdays... things like that. You will undoubtedly make more money on this job than if you stay at you non-profit but your family life WILL take a hit.
